My first idea for my broadsheet design I have chosen a design similar to the Irish Independent newspaper. The structure is clear as to which is the main story as the image takes up two columns for it to be placed. Having the image near the centre means that it will be the first image that will grab their attention. Ii want to place the master heading at the top in bold to give the layout a clean and well organised layout as the master head is commonly used at the top, I chose to stick with the same tradition. I want to insert the body copy next to the large image as it indicates the image is illustration the copy next to it. I will add a header to give the reader brief information on what the article will be about and also use a pull quote as these are sometimes used to keep the audience interested and make them carry on reading. Finally I will be adding other articles that will be featured in this newspaper, this will keep the reader aware that they can read other articles that they may be interested. It gives brief stories about what there is to read and what the scope is about. With the example I have found I found that they too have added other stories but located it the top of the page, I have used this as a guideline as I like they layout making it look professional and formal as it is targeted at a much older target audience.

My second idea I decided to go for a complete different approach and have an image on the stop of the page layout as you can see the example I have found of the broadsheet layout newspaper on the right. There is a range of different images for different articles selected as images are extremely popular by keeping the audience enthusiastic giving them the freedom to read whatever article takes their fancy. I thought I would imply some of the same techniques in my plan designs. I have used the different range of images such as placing the image on top of the layout and also three different images on the left hand side of the page. And having the main copy placed on the right hand side. I will use a drop capital on the main article so the reader knows exactly where the article starts to avoid confusion. Again another pull quote will be used as i find this technique is a good way to draw attention to the main article you want the audience to read.

In my research for designs I found a page layout that was simple and straight forward that I could sued for my thrid idea. Again the master head will be located at the top of the page as very broadsheet does so. I will place the headline underneath again for the main article that i will write about. This time I will use a pull quote as a subheading, this will keep the audience hooked on the article as they have been designed to lure them into reading further on. The image will contain a caption underneath giving a brief sentence of the image but also place another image based on the same article in the body copy. Images are very important as the read wants to be able to visualise what the writer is saying. An advert will be located at the bottom of the layout as some people maybe interested on what is on offer, keeping the layout fresh with a range of different topics.

ImagesImages are very important in broadsheet layouts as it shows what the copy is about and gives the audience a visual image. They can see exactly what the writer is talking about but also helps the audience to see who or what they are talking about if they are not a fan of reading a lot of text. Its helps balance out an article as it makes the broad sheet interesting. By having the right image gives a good explanation of the article if the reader does not understand on what they topic is about. This is a good source as there is something for everyone and also making the layout more attractive as it will draw more attention to people.

Master headMaster heads are used in every publication. This gives the newspaper a name and making it stand out from the others and also making it recognisable for people. This shows the audience what type of publication it is and also where the name is. This gives every newspaper or magazine a unique element as people will know and tell what company it has come from. The master head has its own font type this is so that it stand out from the copy, and headings. I have decided that I will use a graffiti font as it is well suited for my article and its sub culture hip hop. The audience will be able to identify what type of article that is printed based on the master head showing that its is based on hip hop. Graffiti plays a big part in hip hop as it is to mark their territory and is used as an indicator to show a mark of a certain gang. Headline

Headlines are important in publications as they indicate a brief sentence about the copy. It also makes the article organised and professional as it covers everything one might question. It makes it clear to the audience so they know exactly which section to read. I have chosen a selection of styles from Da font website as I want a font that is clear but also appropriate for the audience and clear to read. I have researched articles that are related to hip hop and have used sharp bold and clear headlines. This is so it will be noticeable by the audience.

Body copyThe body copy is the most important piece on a broadsheet layout as it is the main text on what the article is about. It needs to be a clear throughout so the reader has no difficulty in reading. Again on Da font i have come across some fonts that that are appropriate for my design. As my theme is based on hip hop i have gone for a similar font style to the headline. The body copy is sharp and bold but also the text size will be smaller so the reader does not get confused when reading and separated the headline with the copy.
