Basketball originated in Springfield, Massachusetts. Basketball was started by a Canadian who was teaching physical education in Springfield named Dr. James Naismith. He invented basketball to be an indoor sport, something that would keep people, particularly the children that he taught, moving. Basketball becomes one of the world's most popular sports; it entered the Olympics in 1936.

History of Basketball

Volleyball was created by William G Morgan in 1895 but was originally known as Mintonette. It was designed for "older" folk of the YMCA because it was more gentle than basketball but still required some physical activity. In 1896, Alfred Halstead coined the name "Volley Ball".Volleyball was taken to the world during 1919. It became a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since 1964.
