Audio Track

The audio track we are using is called “Hitchhiker”, and is a song that is made by OMI, who is also popular for specific songs such as “Cheerleader” and “Hula Hoop”. The song is a dramatic and meaningful one, talking about how even though there are multiple other girls and experiences that he’s personally had, that there is only one true girl for him. We have used this audio track due to the fact that we can have a serious storyline added to it, whereas we can also have a humourous aspect on the video if we want to, which would interest and intrigue the audience. As many music videos have a storyline, this could also help the video, and the song has a basic storyline to it and isn’t just about anything random, it has meaning.

Sources of Finance

We don’t need many funds when it comes to the making our music video for the song. First of all, we have a HD 1080P Camera that we have been provided with for the duration of our project, and this will help the music video look professional and make everything in the video clear. However, money that we currently earn will still need to be spent on helping the music video better, such as buying props for any of the actors within the video, spending money on travel (to either places to act or travel around London), clothes to use within the music video, and much more. We have to consider how much we will need to spend as a group or individually on the song and come to an agreement on who will buy what and what we’re willing to spend overall.

Video Cameras

For our music video, we will be using the Panasonic HC-V750 camcorder which records in HD (High Definition) and has 1080p. Video cameras/ camcorders are a huge part of the music video, and is a main essential for what we have to do. Camcorders will be used to record the music video in

Page 3: Task5 media

clear, crystal vision, and give the video meaning. The music video wouldn’t be as good or professional if it was just pictures as well as being in low definition with a sloppy editing style. The video camera is also digital and high definition, so will look good and can be easily edited with the right editing software used.

Photo Cameras

Photo cameras won't be used as much as video cameras in our music video, can can still be helpful and still be used just the same. Photo cameras are cameras that are usually in something such as a phone, which everyone can use daily, and isn’t as professional. However, these can still be used to get a point across within a video, such as progressing a story by showing someone taking a picture. It can also be used in music videos to show a collage of pictures of someone.

Film locations

The film locations that we choose, will have to match the genre of the song. The song genre of the song “Hitchhiker” by OMI is pop, so as far as we can begin to imagine how our story and how it is going to plan out, we have come up with some ideas of locations of where we could film these shots. We thought of surrounding areas such as Romford, which is a close location for all of us to get to and includes areas in which we think will suit our shots that we

Page 4: Task5 media

plan on taking as our song has more of an emotional edge to it and we plan on using the public transport a lot in our shots. The video we plan on producing will include things like buses, trains, traffic, and all things which match the name of our song’s title “Hitchhiker” which in its own sense, means a traveler.

Editing software

The editing software we will be using is Final Cut Pro. This software is needed in producing our music video as we will need it to piece together all of our final shots, any special effects we may want to be included in the video, any touching up of the video and also if there is anything we plan on adding to our video to effect the mood, the picture or sound of the video and song, and we will be using the school's computers and programs along with this to further add to our music video. It will be our final piece to a our video that we are producing. Without it there would be no point of producing this video as there would be no way to piece together our digital shots that we would be taking to produce our video, unless we changed it and used a moviola, but that is not

Page 5: Task5 media

happening. The digital shots that we are taking can only be edited on software, so we need the editing software Final Cut Pro to piece together are video.

Internet access

Internet access is a vital piece to creating our video as we need it to gain ideas for locations to go to, to film shots, and more. We needed it in the first place to pick the artist and song we wanted to create the video for, we need internet access to be able to find items we may want for our video such as props, we can find out times for dates that we can go out and film these scenes for a video, depending on the weather we want, time we want like night/day, we can access this all from the internet. We can use the internet to find examples for our video to give us new ideas and ways to create things we may be struggling to create whether it be a seen or a shot or a prop planning on being used, these are all examples in which we may need internet access.

Desktop publishing software

Desktop publishing software are also vital assets in helping us prepare for creating and producing our video. Things such as Word, Excel and Photoshop are need in creating different things for our video. Word would be used for writing the story, planning the steps, writing down the times, locations and scripts if needed. This is effective for storing the work easily and easier for others from my crew to access if needed, instead of using a paper based system making it harder to find and store. Excel can be worked out for us to plan out our budget and set out what we need to buy, it's a quicker method of working out calculations. Photoshop is a good desktop publishing tool as it will help us with any shots which have some sought of error about them or we what to change some sought of characteristic about the shot, this tool is helpful in correcting, fixing and changing and shot, which is a helpful tool which we will use in creating our video.

Guidelines and Regulations

Page 7: Task5 media

Our music video is going to contain a song from a SONY artist. However, Sony agreed to an act placed by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification). We need to keep to the guidelines and regulations as if we don’t, we could have serious legal action pressed against us.

The first video recorders were presented/introduced in the UK in 1978. At that time, there were no laws introduced/ enforced determining/ governing who the recordings could be supplied to, or/and what recordings/videos could be released. Originally, major distributors were cautious about releasing films on video as they felt that the video tapes could prevent success on cinema revenues.

This would benefit smaller distributors who could only afford to release materials with low budget, these materials included horror and pornography. And as there were no regulations on videos at the time, it was allowed to be shown and seen in cinemas.

The BBFC was obliged/required to decide whether or not video works were satisfactory for a classification certificate to be issued to them. The BBFC issued the Video Recording Act of 1984 and 2010 which includes: age restrictions meaning that some films or songs that contained some sexual nature were not for people under the age of 16, and that packaged CDs and DVDs had to have a label revealing the age ratings to consume the purchased material.

“Guiding Principles: • to protect children and vulnerable adults from potentially harmful or otherwise unsuitable media content• to empower consumers, particularly parents and those with responsibility for children, to make informed viewing decisions.”(Source: BBFC)

Design and Patents Act 1988

This Patent Act was introduced to protect the time, money and effort by the people who create original pieces of work. This can mean authors of books, composers of music, the makers of a film, a computer game designer or a company that creates applications for smartphones.

They all invest a great deal of time and money to produce these things and quite rightly, their work belongs to them.

The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act has two main purposes:

1. To ensure people are rewarded for their endeavours

2. To give protection to the copyright holder if someone tries to copy or steal their work.

We have to follow this act as we will using a song from one of sony artists, which means we have to follow the rules and guidelines which they follow, as we would be breaking the act which they follow, so we must get permission to use an artist’s song who is signed from them. Otherwise we will be breaking the copyright rule.

Time

Time is important for our video as we need to meet deadlines for putting together the story, the locations, the imagery, the script if there is one or memorising the song. Everything has to be done step by step and completed in time for us to record the video and then edit. Taking too long on a specific

Page 9: Task5 media

subject can drag the whole production back which is why it is important for us not to fall back or take to long putting something together, there has to be a time slot for every topic giving you enough time to do it and enough time to do everything else revolving around it so the production stays on track.

Contributors

For our video we will have different contributors, we have our crew which will be operating throughout the whole production as we are the ones putting together this video, we may also have a cast of a selected group of people which may be included in the video, may be helping out with the recording if we were to all be in the shot or if we need someone else to be in the shot we will have actors ready to project the image we want them to, this is an effective method as it means you can do more with the story instead of just having the crew involved in the story, this is a big part that needs to be soughted out fast and prepared for as they need to know if there needed, that they are able to perform and take part in our production.
