Why Information Management (IM)... To tap abundant knowledge base in the form of tacit and explicit knowledge that was lying unused and make it available for use across company.
To establishing a knowledge repository where all employees would participate actively in sharing their experiences of success and failures of implementing a project.
Will lead to an increase in the overall employee interactions.
Growth through participative learning.
The process...
Bringing together a group of people with exposure in different fields but completely inexperienced in implementing Information Management.
Support of the top management is mandatory in implementing the IM strategy.
The next step is establishing a Information repository where all employees have to participate actively.
Continued...
This repository will be placed in the corporate intranet and an information module needs to be added in the existing ERP system.
Employees should be encouraged to participate in the information management program.
After verification by an expert their contribution can be posted in the ERP.
Continued...
For more effective IM program TATA Steel can incorporate IM repositories at the departmental level which can be integrated to the main Information management repository.
After forming a Information repository , the next step would be to form a information community.
These communities will give a forum to like minded people to meet and share their experiences..
Continued...
Knowledge communities are not problem solving platforms, but groups of people but groups of people who can share their knowledge and learn from one another through their experiences.
Knowledge communities can take up a problem and the problem can be solved by Brainstorming process.
These communities should not be aimed at short term gains, but should be an investment for the company’s future.
