Time to Get Out and Play As spring is here and the weather gets nicer, it is time to get your children outside to play. There are many advantages for children engaging in outside play, including reducing their screen time. All winter they have spent their free time connected to a screen —TVs, smartphones, video games, notebooks, etc. This is a habit that may have long term results. A study done by St. George’s University of London showed the amount of screen time is related to risk factors for childhood type 2 diabetes. This was not a small study. The researchers looked at about 4,500 students who were 9-10 years old, assessed their risk factors, and asked about their screen time habits. Children who had more than 3 hours of screen time were more likely to have higher total body fat than children who spent less than one hour devoted to screen time. This was not related to the amount of physical activity in which the children engaged. The data showed a direct link to screen time. Since there is a similar risk for adults, spring is a perfect time to go outside and play with your children.

Tote Bag
The yardage for the tote is as follows: *If making it all one color with 1 pocket you will need 1-1/2 yards *If making it with contrasting color you will need 1-1/2 yards of main color and 1-1/2 yards of contrasting color. You need so much of the contrasting because the straps are 49 inches long. Fabric is 40-45 inches wide and a yard is only 36 inches. If you are using 60" fabric you will need 1 yard.

Homemaker Council Meeting
Taylor Regional Hospital has a very active Auxiliary Volunteer
organization which has a long history of service to the hospital
and community. There are many areas of involvement that
are available to Auxiliary members. Areas of service
include: Information Desk, Greeter, Mammography, Gift
Shop, Outpatient Surgery, Cancer Center, Cafeteria, and
Emergency Services. Our Auxiliary members are a critical link
in making our patients feel welcome and more relaxed in
stressful situations.
The Auxiliary Volunteers are active in the local community and
are involved in many organizations. The Auxiliary also works
with the Taylor Co Extension Homemakers making pillows for
surgery patients. If you would like additional information
regarding the Auxiliary Volunteers or to schedule your brief
orientation to get started volunteering, please call Cindy Rose
in the Hospitality Services Office at 270-789-5814.
