• TBL’S REQUIREMENT OF FUND GREW DUE TO THE EARLY PLANNING.

• Myanmar Economic Bank came forward and have sanctioned and disbursed us the fund within a period of 3 to 4 weeks.

• We chose MEB because it is soon merging with MABD which has branches in every township in Myanmar

• The merged bank ‘STATE COMMERCIAL BANK “ will become the biggest bank serving farmers.

• SCB will be the one bank in Myanmar which understands the farmers need.

THE REAL CHALLANGE

• HOW TO GUIDE FARMERS TO COPE WITH COVID UNCERTAINITIES.

• TBL’S ADVISE TO FARMERS IS 1. Grow more than 1 crop to mitigate risks of market demand.

2. One of the crops must be oil crop. Sesame, Ground nut, Soya, or Sunflower even if Korea, Japan or China buys lesser sesame and ground nut we can consume oil crops domestically and reduce import bills. The demand will be alive.

3. In vegetables prefer longer storage crops like carrot, potato onion.

4. Priority must to given to long storage crops like Cotton, Oil crops, pulses.

5. Grow quality crops which can be exported easily like pulses and beans.

WHY EMPHASIS ON COTTON CROP?

COTTON HAS THE UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS WHICH FEW OTHER CROPS HAVE.

• NON PERISHABLE CROP.

• PROVIDES FIBRE FOR CLOTHES WHICH HAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST VALUE ADDITION AFTER PROCESSING. • 500 Kyat Cotton can processed to a 50,000 kyat branded T Shirt.

• PROVIDES 100 VISS EDIBLE OIL PER ACRE OF LAND

• PROVIDES 10 TONNES OF FIRE WOOD PER ACRE

• PROVIDES 600 VISS OF ANIMAL FEED (OIL CAKE) PER ACRE OF LAND.

THE REAL CHALLENGE

CHANGES IN CONSUMER PATERN

The Disease is here to stay for a long time.

There is bound to a material shift in the lifestyle of people including food habits.

1. More purchase of processed food and ready to eat meals.

2. Lesser visits to Restaurants for eating out.

3. Working from home will lead to people consuming snacks than in the office. Healthier snacks will become the need.

4. More time will be spent at home and lesser social gatherings will ensure a shift to comfortable cotton clothing over flashy and expensive synthetic clothes.

5. WE HAVE TO PREPARED FOR A MAJOR SHIFT.
