I love Kitty cat,Her coat is so warm,

And if I don't hurt her,

She'll do me no harm.

So I'll not pull her tail,

for them, describe them as hairy, scaly, feathered or with a hard

shell and how they care for their off spring. Optionally use

mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and insects to sort them

Song:

Spiders, spiders

Scare me so

So I let them go

Let them go.

Measure and weigh the animals

Make a chart:

Phonics: C-V-C words

Train children in beginning letters, middle letters and ending sounds.

Grammar

Make cards for

I have a mouse

Ask children to arrange them into a sentence.

Replace the ‘a mouse’ card with other animals names taught in the

picture – word bingo

Game: Letter Sticks

Give each child a letter card on a stick.

Some children will have the same letters.

Ask them to look at the letters and say its sound.

Then start to call words and ask the children to raise their letter card

if it makes the beginning sound of the word. If the children are

familiar with the sound, ask them to change with each other so that

they can practice different letters.

For older students you can make this into a competition.

Story Time

The Ant & the Dove

Suggestion: design a pop-up book with four scenes

An ant walked to a river to drink some water.

The water was cool and nice. He drank more and more and more …

and he fell in the water.

“Oh no! Help me! Help me!” he cried.

A Dove was sitting on a tree. He saw the ant in the river.

“I will help you. I will help you!”

He picked a leaf and dropped it into the river.

“Climb on the leaf, Ant. Climb on the leaf!”

The Ant got onto the leaf and climbed into the grass.

 “Thank you, Dove. Thank you!”

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 8/70

From that day the Dove and the Ant greeted each other every day:

The Ant would say: Good morning Dove!

And the Dove would smile and say, “Good morning Ant. How are

you today.

The other doves were laughing at them. “Why do you care for such

a little ant?” they said.

“Well,” said Dove. “He is my friend.”

Now one day a bird catcher came in the forest. “Ahh! There are

some doves in that tree. They don’t see me. I am going to shoot

them!” He took out his gun and pointed it at the doves.

Ant saw the hunter. He called the doves, “Doves, Doves, fly away!”

The Doves didn’t hear him. They were sleeping.

The Ant called again, “Doves, doves! Fly away!”

Still the doves didn’t hear him.

Just as the hunter was ready to shoot, the Ant climbed up the

hunter’s leg … and bit him!

 “Aaahhhh!” the hunter

screamed and dropped his

gun.

The Doves woke up with a

shock. “A hunter!” called the

Ant. “Quickly fly away!” The

Doves got up and flew off,

“Thank you! Thank you, Ant.” They said. “Ant, you are a

real friend!” said the other

doves. “You are a real

friend!”

2. Habitats

Where do they live?

Draw a simplified picture, similar to this on the whiteboard. Include

the words: mountain, forest, grass, city, sea and sky.

Aim: The children can say where the animals live (mountain, forest,

grass, sea, city.

This is a hole for rabbit

This is a hive for bee

This is a nest for a bird

And this is a home for me.

Read

Practice reading the song, (or the key words in the song).

Animal homes

Discuss more animals and their homes

Use the nature science books you have to show the children about

animals.

Examples Panda, Polar Bear, Monkey, ….

Language:

A cat lives in the city.

A snake lives in the grass.

Use letter cards to teach the children to make sentences:

Phonics – make questions.

Use the cards to make question starting with who,

Who lives in the forest?

Phonics: Segmenting Cheer

As children know the beginning sounds well from stage two, get

them to sound out the whole word:

Sing:

Teacher:

Listen to my cheer

And clap for the sounds that you hear

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 11/70

A turtle liked to talk.

He talked in the day

He talked at night.

He talked to the left.

And he talked to the right.

He really liked to talk

He never stoppedHe talked and talked away

Even if there was no one to hear what he had to say.

And because he talked and talked at no end,

He didn’t have a single friend.

Now one day

there was a fire

That burned and burned and burned.

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 12/70

All the animals ran, ran

And ran.

Only the turtle didn’t go.

Because he knew he was too slow.

He cried:

Help me!

Help me!

Help me!

But no one was near,

To help or even hear.

Till two geese flew by,

Who said:

‘Let us carry you up high.

Bite in this stick

And please don’t talk as we fly.’

He kept quiet for a while,

And it went very well,But then he saw some cousins

Who started to yell.

He greeted them with a loud

 ‘Hellooooooooooo…’

for how long?

I do not know

But then there was a ‘Bang’ And I’m sure that was the turtle’s end!

And ever since that day, so I heard

No turtle has ever spoken again a single word.

Don’t tickle me

2

This tree can’t stand still.

Many insects tickle the tree!

They make him cry,

“Don’t tickle me! Don’t tickle me!”

4

There are ladybirds.

They tickle the tree so much!

The tree cries,

“Don’t tickle me! Don’t tickle me!”

6

There are grasshoppers,

They too make the tree cry,

“Please, don’t tickle me! Don’t tickle me!”

8

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 18/70

There are bees,

Flying in and out.

Busy, busy bees,

tickling the tree!

They too make him cry,

“Don’t tickle me! Don’t tickle me!”

10

There is even a mantis,

Waiting to eat some insects!

He too makes the tree cry,

 “Please, please, don’t tickle me!

Don’t tickle me!””

12

And there are the butterflies,

With many different colors.

Their tiny toes tickle the tree,

“Please, don’t tickle me! Don’t tickle me!”

14.

The trees say, “We can’t stand it

anymore!

But who can help us?”

They look around,

they look for a long time.

It is very quiet.

16.

Then suddenly the birds call,

 “We can!”

Many bids come,

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 19/70

picking out the insects.

18

Then the lizards say,

 “We can help too!”

20.

Even the frogs and snakes say,

 “We can help you!”

They are happy in the tree.

They go everywhere, chasing the insects.

22

Now the trees don’t feel

the insects tickling all the time.

24.

But they still can’t stand still!

Now it is the birds and lizards,

the squirrels and snake that make him cry,

“Please, don’t tickle me! Don’t tickle me!”

wood and a hairpin (to be put in the hair of Totomo)

1. Totomo is a brave, little girl.

2. She lives in a little house,in a big forest.

3. She lives with her mother. She grows vegetables.

4. Every day, Totomo and her mother go to the river.

5. There they wash their hair, comb it, and tie it up with a pin.

6. Then they take water to make porridge.

7. Mother goes off to the market to sell her vegetables.

8. As soon as mother is gone,

there is always a loud “Boom, Boom, Boom.”

It is the scary giant.

9. “Totomo, where are you?” he says.

 “Totomo, I am hungry.

Totomo, I want to eat you!”

10. Very fast, Totomo gets the porridge and

shouts,

“Don’t eat me! Eat the porridge.”

Then she runs inside

and shuts the door.

11.The giant comes every day.

And every day mother makes porridge for him.

12. Now, one day, they went to the river and mother said,

“I only sold few vegetables yesterday.

We can not make much porridge, just enough for the giant.

You can not eat today.”

13. Totomo said, “Don’t worry mother. I will drink water.”

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 22/70

And she didn’t eat.

14. The next day Mama didn’t have much money either.

She said, “Totomo, again, we can’t eat today!”

And Totomo said,

 “Don’t worry, mother!

I will drink water again!”

But she was hungry.

15. The third day, again Mama didn’t have much money.

She said, “Today we only have porridge for the giant.”

16. Again Totomo said,

 “Don’t worry, mother.

We have plenty of water.”

But Totomo was very, very hungry.

17. And when mother had gone, she said, “I have to eat. I’ll just

take one spoon. Just one spoon!”

18. But that one spoon was so nice.

 “I’ll take one more.” Slrrrp!

“And one more, and one more, ….”

19. In no time, all the porridge was gone,

And then there came the giant,

 “Boom, Boom, Boom!”

29. “Totomo, where are you?

Totomo, I am hungry.

Totomo, I want to eat you!”

20. Totomo quickly filled the pot with sand,

ran in the house and shouted,

“Don’t eat me. Eat the porridge!”

21. But the giant was not a fool and said,

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 23/70

 “It doesn’t smell like porridge.

It doesn’t look like porridge.”

And when he had tasted a little, he said,

 “It doesn’t taste like porridge!”

22. “Totomo, you have cheated me.”

“Totomo, you know I am hungry.

And now I want to eat you!”

With one big blow,

he kicked the roof off the house.

23. Totomo had been hiding inside the house

Now she got up and ran as fast as the wind.

But the giant had seen her and followed her.

24. On her shoulders, Totomo had a small bag.

When the giant came very close,

she opened it and pulled out a red chili

and threw it at the giant.

25. The tiny chili, became a very big fire!

The giant cried, “Totomo, what are you doing?”

And jumped in the water.

26. Totomo ran through the forest.

27. The giant put out the fire and followed her.

Now he was not only hungry, he was also very angry!

“Totomo, I am angry, you know. I am really angry!”

28. Again, the giant was coming closer and closer.

Just as he was going to grab the little girl,

she opened her bag,

took out a cucumber

and threw it at the giant.

29. The tiny cucumber became a huge ocean!

The giant was covered in water. He cried, “Totomo, this bad, you know. Totomo, I will not forgive

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 24/70

you!”

30. Totomo kept on running and running.

But the giant got out of the water quickly and said, “This time I am going to catch you.”

31. And yes, with his big steps he came closer and closer very

quickly.

Just as he wanted to catch her,

Totomo opened her little bag

and threw a small stick at the giant.

32. The small stick became a huge forest!

With tall trees everywhere, the giant could not run very fast.

“Arh”, he said, “I am stuck.”

33. But not for long. And when the giant got out, he hissed and

shouted, “This time you won’t get away.”

34. In no time, he was right behind Totomo.

Now her little bag was empty.

She couldn’t stop him anymore.

35. The giant grabbed her,

opened his mouth

and swallowed her in one big snap.

36. “Ha,” he said, “That feels good! But I am tired, very tired…”

And lay down.

37. Totomo was inside the giant’s stomach.

She was not hurt.

She was thinking what to do.

38. Just as the giant began to snore, Totomo took out her hair pin

and started to push it into the giant’s stomach.

39. “Totomo, what are you doing?”  “Totomo, please stop!”

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 25/70

 “Totomo, no more, please!”

40.But Totomo didn’t stop. She pushed, and pushed. And the giant jumped and jumped and jumped…

41. … till he fell on the grass.

42. Just then Mother came back from the market. She saw the

broken house, the forest, the ocean and fire. And then she said,

 “But where is Totomo?”

43. From very far, she heard, “I am here!”

“Where?” cried mother. “Where are you?”

44. She followed Totomo’s voice

Then she saw the giant in the grass.

 “Where are you?”

45. Totomo shouted, “In the stomach!” Mother at once took a pair

of scissors and cut open the giant’s belly.

46. And who came out? Totomo! “Mother!” she cried. “Mother!”

47. They went home, fixed their house and never, never had to

worry again about the giant, but ate porridge for breakfast,

lunch and dinner, and were so happy!

The Little Mermaid

Deep down in the sea there lived a mermaid. She was very pretty and cute.

She liked to look at the lights of the city.

And she liked to look at the people there.

Once there came a big storm. The waves were very big.

The little mermaid saw a ship sink. She quickly went to help

and saved a boy. She brought him to the beach.

When she went home, to her mermaid palace,

She could not forget that boy.

I love him! She said. I love him!

Her sisters laughed at her.

‘But he will never love you. You are a mermaid. You don’t have legs!”

She often swam to the beach and saw him standing there.

Is he looking for me? She thought. “Is he looking for me?”

8/6/2019 Tbook 3

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/tbook-3 34/70

The little mermaid really wanted to find out.

She went to an old woman, who was a witch.

She said, “Old mother, can you give me legs?”

“The old woman said, “Yes, but it will be painful.”

The Little Mermaid said, “I am not scared.”

“And,” said the old mother, “you must pay me.

You must give me your beautiful voice.”

The little mermaid was shocked.

But then she said, “Old mother, I am ready to give you anything!”

The next day, the little mermaid found herself on the beach.

She went to the prince’s palace.

She helped him very much.

And the prince was very good to her.

But he never knew who she was.

And the little mermaid could not tell him

That she was the one he loved.

One day the king said, “Prince, you have to marry.

There is a princess, across the sea.

The prince went by boat. The little mermaid went with him.

But she was very sad.

He was going to marry another girl.

Her sisters came.

They said, “Little mermaid, don’t be sad. Take this knife and kill the prince.

You can be a mermaid again.”

Once upon a time, a fisherman walked along the beach, when he

saw near a cave the skin of a seal.

From inside the cave he heard the voice of a woman singing. When he looked inside, he saw a beautiful woman, dancing and

singing without clothes.

He fell in love with her, put the seal skin in a box, and waited for the

woman to come out of the cave.

When she did come out, she was shocked she couldn’t find her seal

skin! The fisherman appeared and offer her his coat.

He took her home and cared for her.

She felt good with him and after some time they got married.

They were a happy couple and over the years got six children.

The fisherman always kept the box with the seal skin locked.

One day the father took his children outside. He had forgotten to

lock the box. And when he was outside, his wife opened the box and

to her surprise found her seal skin!

She put the seal skin on and went into the water.

When the fisherman came home, he immediately saw what had

happened and began to cry.

He had lost his wife. Yet every time he went out fishing, the seal

would help him get the best fish. And when the children came to

play to the beach, she would send them the best shells!

She was always waiting for them, and those who passed by could

hear the sad cry

Some animals sleep the whole winter.

We call that hibernation. Some bears hibernate.

A little bear

Was walking here and there.

Walk in place.

He was looking in a tree

Looking for some thing nice to eat.

Stretch out the arms and sway them around.

He stopped to smell,

‘A little kid, I can tell!’

Place hands at the side and bend forwards, while sniffing.

He turned and turned around

Till he dropped on the ground.

Turn faster and faster and drop on the floor.

But he didn’t see

That I was hiding behind a tree.

Squat, place hands before the face. Peek left and right.

He started to walk on fours

Till he couldn’t walk anymore.

With hands on the floor, move around.

But still he didn’t see

That I was hiding behind a tree.

Squat and peek again.

But when I thought

he wasn’t looking anymore

He jumped up with a roar.

Jump as high as you can.

Distribute the cards to the students and see if they can find their

matching card.

Rhyming games

Erase the Rhyme Draw a picture on a dry erase board, such as grass,

sky, tree, flower, and sun. Say a word, such as tower,

and have a child come up to erase what rhymes

(flower); erase what rhymes with bee (tree); erase what rhymes with

fun (sun). Continue until the whole picture is erased.

Match the rhymes

On a large piece of paper make two columns. In each column draw

objects or pictures that you like. Ask your kid to match two objects

from each column that have names with identicalsounds.

Rhyming Dice

Rhyming Basket

Objects are placed in a basket (one object for each child present),

and the basket is passed around the circle. As each child gets the

basket, I say a word (such as “fizzers”) and they pull

out the object that rhymes (“scissors”). You can use

any objects, because it doesn’t matter if the rhyming

words are real words or nonsense words.

The Wordeater

Read the story a few times. When they are familiar with it, omit the

second rhyming word and ask the children to fill in the rhyming word
