Historically, it's the perfect month for warriors to resume warring. Today, the Pentagon still agrees with the Romans. Almost all of major US-NATO military operations began in March. “Beware the Ides of March?” On the Roman calendar, every months midpoint was known as the Ides, to correlate with the full moon of the year (winter didn’t count then). A seer told Julius Caesar his downfall would come by the Ides of March. Caesar continued to a senate meeting at the Theatre of Pompey, where he was murdered by as many as 60 conspirators. Ironically, the spot where Caesar was assassinated is protected in today’s Rome as a no-kill cat sanctuary. I hope you found yourself smiling about these fun facts or even the fact that sunshine, beautiful flowers and an exciting lineup of activities and events are here in the March calendar. Did you Know.... Sleep is vital to our well-being and sleep experts at the National Institute of Health state that sleep affects our immune system, appetite, breathing, blood pressure and cardiovascular health. Sleep also helps us think more clearly, have quicker reflexes and focus better. As we age it is more common to experience insomnia and healthy sleep habits can make a big difference. A few practices include sticking to the same bedtime routine, avoiding afternoon naps, exercising early in the day, winding down without technology the hour before bedtime and avoiding cigarettes, alcohol and heavy meals in the evening. Path to Well-Being Congratulations to all the Super Bowl Football Pool winners! Glenn Fisher won in three of the quarters. Leo Galcher, Charlie McErlean, and June Kreutzer all won two quarters, and single quarter winners Patricia Underhill, and Stuart Compton. Love is Sweet! A box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day is a lovely gesture, but chocolate dipped strawberries are decadent and store bought just can’t compare to homemade treats. Big juicy strawberries dipped in rich chocolate are delicious, more personal for your loved ones or yourself than the stuff you get in a store. We each made a mountain of chocolate dipped strawberries and decorated cookies to take home and enjoy. These homemade chocolate desserts are a super-special ways to cap off dinner. But the best part in February we crowned our 2020 King & Queen for Valentines Day. John & Shirley Brizendine for 2020! Thriving
