TCAP Review

Before we review the answers from the bell work, let's do a quick verbal review of letters A and B.

ScienceQuick Review

1) A- 2) A- 3) A- 4) A- 5) B- 6) B- 7) B- 8) B-

Argon is the third most common gas in our atmosphereAcids=hydronium ionsAcids are 0 to 6.9 on the pH ScaleThe 1st letter is A, so the 1st numbers are A for acids Bases=hyrdroxide ionsBases are 7.1 to 14 on the pH ScaleB is for bigger (pH scale) numbers & B is for basesB tastes bitter and B is for blue color

The A B Cs of 8th grade science

Now let's copy some notes for letter E

Page 6: TCAP Review

Notes SPI 0807.9.3 Elements and Compounds

19) E- Elements= the different types of atoms an element is a substance that CANNOT be broken down into a simpler substance by CHEMICAL means. You CANNOT change an element into a different element with a chemical reactionEach individual element is a unique particle called an atom So in other words… elements are the different types of atoms

Example:Lithium is an element. Here is one lithium atom

More About Elements: Elements’ chemical symbols always start with one capital letterCan be followed by one or more lower case letters

Examples of Elements: H = the element hydrogenrepresents one hydrogen atomNa = the element sodiumrepresents one sodium atomUub=the element ununbiumrepresents one ununbium atom

Notes SPI 0807.9.3 Elements and Compounds Science

20) E- Electromagnets-using electricity to make a magnet

Electromagnet: a wire wrapped around an iron core connected to a source of electricity (like a battery)

Electromagnets: can be turned on and off as needed.

SPI 0807:12.2ElectromagnetismNotes Science

Adjusting the strength of an electromagnet1) Use more electrical current2) Use more coils of wire

Battery

Solenoid

Iron core

Notes

21) E- Electromagnetic Induction-electricity from magnets

This process is called electromagnetic induction

Magnets and a coil of wire (called a solenoid) can create electrical current

The magnet has to move through (or around) the coil

The coil has to move through (or around) the magnetor

SPI 0807:12.1 Electromagnetic Induction Science

The three devices below are called electrical generators

Page 10: TCAP Review

Quick Review

SPI 0807:12.1 Electromagnetic Induction

The pictures below show electromagnet induction in action.

To increase the electrical current increase the movement speed

Picture 01 Picture 02

Both of these devices are called electrical generators

Notes21) E- Electrons = negative charge22) E- Electrons-located in electron shells (AKA: levels or orbitalsAll matter is made up of atomsAtoms are made of 3 sub-atomic particles……protons (are the blue circles) (pos charge)…neutrons (are the green circles) (no charge)…electrons (are the orange circles) (neg charge)

SPI 0807.9.1 Atoms

Protons and neutrons are found inside the nucleus

Science

Electrons are found outside the nucleus in the electron cloud in energy levels
