My sincere thanks to Jamil Janjua for his tireless services that have seen TCSgrow under his watch as CEO and Group CEO. Jamil is now taking a wellearned retirement, but only in the formal sense of the word, having reachedthat magic number when one traditionally takes retirement. However, givenhis enormous store of experience and business acumen, as also his youthfulvitality, JJ will continue to engage with TCS as a Consultant, a pricelessresource in these very challenging times. So even as I wish him a fond farewell, let me extend to him a hearty welcome back! and may we continue to harmonizetogether in the exploring of new horizons for many more years to come.

It was a pleasure hosting once again the Friends of AKUH in UAE, and mysincere thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Mohammad Nafees for permitting the use oftheir lovely residence for the occasion.

Khalid N. Awan

MessageChairman's

It is said that all good things must one day come to an end. Not necessarily!I think. TCS has been more than just a good thing in my life. Given the abruptand premature end of my flying career in my first job as commercial pilot, TCShas provided me with a second opportunity to make a different kind of namefor myself and earn a respectable livelihood, all the while taking pride in thefact that I have been part of a select band of trailblazers who have given newmeaning to the spirit of enterprise.

I would like to thank Mr. Khalid Awan for his very kind words, and wish toexpress my deep gratitude for the opportunities that he has made availablefor me through TCS, and the many learnings and wisdoms that he has impartedto me over the years of our association.

I look forward to engaging with TCS in my post retirement period, and continuingto be of service to our most valued customers. Thank you for your vote ofconfidence.

An hourbefore midnight one

night the TCS cricketteam faced off with theQuisas XI at the AlQusais Cricket Ground. In the spirit ofthe times and the lateness of the hour

it was a twelveovers asidematch. Havingwon the toss theQusais XIelected to bat

first and managed to post a score of91 runs in the face of a five bowlersTCS attack. Impressive, but notintimidating. Shabeen and Asif openedthe innings for TCS, but coujldn’t standtheir ground and were back in the

pavilion before theend of thesecond over.Umer and

Harris thentook charge for

TCS and playedaggressively on

the front foot, taking the score to73 in 8 overs with four huge sixes anddozen or so boundaries. Umer, whowas playing so well, fell victim to alapse of concentration and was backin the pavilion, but matterswere far fromthreatening withjust 18 runsfrom 24

deliveriesrequired to win.But Qassim,Mansoor andImtiaz cameand went inquick

succession, and the tension began tomount.

The Qusais players looked on withsmiles on their faces. The Pakistannational cricket team had developed

a well earned reputation for snatchingdefeat from the jaws of victory. TCStoo was a Pakistani outfit and appearedto be following in the footsteps of itsnational team. But ‘Bomber’ Harris wasstill at the crease with three huge sixesand four boundaries under his belt anda huge appetite for more. The Qusaisbowler came pounding down therunway like a raging bull about to playhavoc with the China Shop, or in thiscase the TCS Express Center! But‘Bomber’ Harris was undaunted and

undeterred, and determined to catchthe bull by the horns and swing itby its tail over the boundary line. The Qusais ‘sizzler’ would have

rippedthrough the most seasoned of willowsand blasted the bails to smithereens.Instead it got deflected with the greatestof ease, scorching a path through thegrass and over the ropes. TCS won!The message was clear. Judge not theamateur Pakistani player by the anticsof the professional. Cricket at TCSremains a gentleman’s game.

A conference was held by the Pakistan Association Dubai organised by the internationalPeace Forum of expatriate Pakistani nationals living in UAE under the patronageof the Consul General of Pakistan Dr. Saeed Khan Mohmand. The objective wasto send the message to the world that we are peace loving people who believe inhuman values, have tolerance and acceptance for other beliefs and concepts, and want to be part of the greater world.

Over two thousand participants attended the event and speakers shared theirexperiences. Mazhar Ayub Khan, the Head of International Logistics Worldwideat TCS, was one of the speakers and received the PEACE AWARD by the ConsulGeneral of Pakistan, for achieving outstanding professional merits in InternationalTrade and Logistics industry and appointment by the French universities as a certifiedtrainer.
