TOURNAMENT RULES

The quarter and semifinals will consist of two fifteen minute halves with stop time in the last two minutes of the second half. The city finals will consist of two twenty minute halves with stop time for the last two minutes of the second half. There will be a 3 minute half time in each game.

Teams arriving late for the posted start time for any game, will play only the 2nd half of the game starting with a deficit score of 0-20. Teams arriving after scheduled half time, or do not show for their match, will forfeit the game (0-40).

1 FIBA Rules - will be followed with the exception of any modifications listed in this booklet.

2 Crossing the Centre Line - The time for a team to cross half court with the ball will be 8 seconds. A ball knocked out of bounds by the defense before half court will not lead to an additional 8 seconds. The previous count will continue from the time the ball left the court.

3 Front Court/Back Court - Once the ball advances to the front court (offensive half) it cannot be passed into the backcourt by the offensive team.

***NEW***If you call the timeout in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half you have the choice to either advance the ball to the front court (just above the 3 point line area) for the throw in and the ball can only be inbounded to a player in the offensive half of the court or you may inbound the ball from your backcourt at the place nearest to where the game was stopped.  You must let the referee know at the end of the timeout. Time outs called at any other time during the game will result in a throw in at the place nearest to where the game was stopped.

4 Throw Ins - a) At the beginning of all periods other than the first period the throw-in shall be administered at the center line with one foot on either side of the center line and shall be entitled to pass the ball to a teammate at any place on the playing court.b) Following a free throw(s) resulting from a technical, unsportsmanlike or disqualifying foul - the player taking the throw-in shall be at the throw-in line in the team’s frontcourt.

5 The Bonus Free Throw Rule - goes into effect on the 7th team foul of each half (1+1) , (technical fouls not included). On the 10th team foul of each half an automatic two free throws will be awarded.

6 Technical Foul - A technical foul is one shot with play resuming with a throw-in from the place nearest to where the ball was located when the technical foul was called.

Page 8: T.C.S.A.A. - Toronto Catholic District School Board · Web viewCITY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2019 The eight teams have been placed into groupings based on Appendix 7 of the T.C.S.A.A.

7 Free Throws - rebounders must not enter the key until the ball has been released by the shooters hand. The shooter can only enter once the ball hits the rim. Only two offensive rebounders are permitted in the key during free throws. (six player maximum in the key during free throws see diagram in booklet).

8 Time Outs - clock stops at all time outs - 4 times outs per game, not restricted by half-time - each are 30 seconds in length; 1 time out for each overtime period. Time outs are called by coaches by alerting the referee during their team’s possession, or any time the play is stopped.

9 Clock Stops - Stop time will take place during all free throws when the shooter receives the ball from the referee.  As well, the clock stops in the last two minutes of the 2nd half on: all stoppages in play, and on all free throws. The clock stops anytime on all time outs. The game clock does not stop after a basket is made. The time starts again when the ball is touched by a player on the court after the ball is inbounded. Stop time for technical fouls only in last 5 minutes of game

10 Overtime - 3 minute running time with stop time in the last minute on all stoppages in play; stop time on all free throws and time outs during the 3 minute overtime. I time out per team. Second half fouls carry into overtime. Repeat until a winner is declared.

11 Line Up - A full line-up with the designated starting five players must be submitted to the scorer at least 5 minutes prior to the starting time. If a player is playing in the game and is not recorded on the game sheet an automatic technical foul will be assessed to the team.

12 The Ball - A size 6 leather ball will be used.

13 Player Disqualification - occurs on the 5th personal foul, 2 technical fouls, 2 unsportsmanlike fouls, combination of a 1 technical and 1 unsportsmanlike and 1 flagrant foul. Second half fouls carry into overtime.

TCSAA Athlete’s Plea

I am the athlete who, through hours of hard work, practice, perseverance and preparation am here, only by the grace of God, to compete. With the help of my coaches, the support of my family and friends, I honour the gifts given to me by God. The gift of a strong and healthy body, sound mind and determined heart, the gift of a compassionate spirit and the gift of friendship.I promise to put forth my best effort within the spirit of the rules. When I fall, I will get up; when I fail, I will try again; when I succeed I will be humble and kind. I will respect my opponent because I know what they have been through.I ask of the coaches, parents, spectators and fans to respect my teammates and me. Please understand that harsh words and deeds are a negative force in this place. I ask you to represent your school, family and community with dignity. I ask you to encourage us with positive, kind words and remember….we are children of God.
