Preparation: Tips from Gisele: I like to mix my sealer and paint together for the fi rst coat of sealing because it allows me to see that the entire surface has been covered. Apply additional coats without any medium until you have opaque coverage. Fill holes with wood fi ller and let dry. Sand and wipe off dust particles. Using the size ¾” Glaze Wash brush, seal all the areas of the surface, inside and out with an equal mix of Paint Adhesion Medium and Blue Mist. When dry, lightly sand and wipe off stray dust. Apply additional coats of Blue Mist (without sealer) until opaque coverage has been achieved. The edges of the lid are Butterscotch. Knob on top is Cinnamon Drop. Bottom routed edges of the knob are Avocado. I added a dot of Dazzling Metallics Champagne Gold to the very top of the knob.Lightly sand painted areas until smooth.

When dry, apply basic pattern lines to front and sides of tea box.

Painting Instructions: Shading tips: Use the #10 Mesa brush loaded as a sideload for shading. I used the largest one (#10) for the edges and the #8 for around the basecoated areas. Wet the brush in your water and tap on paper towel to remove excess water. Wipe water bubbles off the metal ferrule and load one side with color. Flatten the brush on your palette and blend in a straight line both directions to blend the color in the brush. Use the blended color for shading or highlighting

Load Mesa in Teal Green and blend on palette for a sideload. Shade around all of the transferred areas, next to the lines for stems, etc, and along all of the outer edges of the box. Keep the blends soft.

Tips for Basing: When basing colors inside the transferred areas, use the largest brush for the area for smooth coverage. Work the paint into the brush and apply it by fl attening out the brush in the shape of the area.

Basecoat Instructions: Flowerpods on front: circles are Cinnamon Drop (Use Long Filbert #6)Tops are Coral Blush (Flora Round™ #2)Stems and leaves on all sides: Avocado (Flora Round™ #14)Side “star” fl owers: Spiced Pumpkin (Flora Round™ #6)Inside “star fl owers: Mulberry (Flora Round™ #6)Banner: Sand (Mesa™ #10)

Front Leaves and stems: Shade along bottom of each leaf in Midnite Green. Overstroke stems where they come from fl owers and scrolls with a shade of Midnite Green. Highlight tip of leaves with Yellow Green. Add lines from top edge toward center with Sea Breeze. Brighten lines with a drybrush of Moss Pearl, loaded into Loop™ brush. Overstroke and outline bottom of each leaf with a mix of Champagne Gold, + Rich Espres-so + Butterscotch to brighten.

Side leaves: Tops of each leaf and centers of leaves are drybrushed with a mix of Avocado + Sea Breeze. Shade bottom of each leaf and above vein line with Midnite Green. Outline bottom edge and vein lines with a mix of Champagne Gold + Rich Espresso.

Stems and Curls: Brighten centers of stems and scrolls with a mix of Yellow Green and Sea Breeze. Overstroke with Champagne Gold to brighten. Add shadow leaves with #2 Flora Round™ and thinned Teal Green.

Label: Base with Sand and shade outside with Teal Green. Drybrush center of label with a mix of Sand and Snow White with the Loop™ brush to brighten. Let-tering is Blue Harbor highlighted with a thin Soft Lilac highlight line in the center of each line. Shade left side of each letter and on top and bottom of banner with But-terscotch. Deepen with Traditional Raw Sienna. High-light tops of curls from banner with a mix of Snow White and Sand. Add some tiny leaves to the scroll from the letter “a”. Add some little dot fl owers with your stylus, using Cinnamon Drop.

Flowerpods: Using a dry Loop™ brush, dip into small amount of Coral Blush and swirl onto palette to load paint into the brush. When the paint seems to get “dry”, apply color in center of each red fl ower to lighten. This color will be your highlight on the fl ower. Lines are Blue Harbor applied with liner brush. Over-stroke center of each line with Soft Lilac. Shade on either side of line with a mix of Cinnamon Drop + Dioxazine Purple. Add a half moon shade across bottom of fl ower in same mix. (Don’t forget the fl owers above the label) Overstroke the top “crown” of fl ower with Butterscotch. Bring up the highlight by adding Spicy Mustard lines at the top. Shade bottom of crown with Cinnamon Drop and add a few lines from the bottom of the crown with Cinnamon Drop. Crosshatching in center of fl ower, outline of crown and 3

fl ower is done with a mix of Rich Espresso + Cham-pagne Gold. The bottom “dot” is Avocado. Shade bottom of dot with Midnite Green. Highlight top with a dot of Spicy Mustard.

Star Flowers. Starting from the outer tips of the larger orange part of the star petals, highlight the tips with Butterscotch. Brighten by overstroking a few of the lines with Spicy Mustard. Add some Cinnamon Drop lines from the inner edges to shade. From the tip of the Mulberry stars, brighten with lines of Vivid Violet. The deeper centers are created with overstrokes of Dioxa-zine Purple. Using the Flora Round™, stroke in yellow centers with Spicy Mustard. When dry, wash with a little thinned Cinnamon Drop. Center dots are applied with your stylus and Yellow Green.

Hint: Using the Flora Round™ brush, thin the paint so it is the consistency of ink on your palette. You should be able to see through the color easily. Load the round brush in the thinned mix and add to the well of the Painting Pen. Use a ruler to space a ¼” line evenly around the edge of the lid.

Lid: Using the Fine Line Painting Pen loaded with thinned Champagne Gold, and a ruler, add detail lines about 1/4 inch from the edges. The loose stems and leaves are applied with Flora Round™ and Avocado. Add dots of Cinnamon Drop.

Tiny purple fi ller fl owers are Vivid Violet. When dry, dab a little Mulberry at the center of each petal. Mix a little Vivid Violet with Snow White and dab over tops of petals to brighten. Centers are Butterscotch over-stroked with Champagne Gold. Leaves are pressed in with Round Stroke brush loaded with Avocado.Filler Comma-Strokes are applied with a mix of Cham-pagne Gold and Espresso Gold loaded onto the Flora Round™. Filler dots on side are added with mix loaded on stylus.

Finishing:Finish with several coats of DuraClear Varnish to all areas of the tea box, drying between each coat.
