This is Reuben. ""He and his wife arrived in Asia in 2005. Six months after arriving, they decided to stay a second year – the experience and the adventure was just too good give up after 1 short year! ""
Reuben had a job he LOVED and enjoyed teaching just as much as he enjoyed exploring Asia. Within the first 2 years of living in Asia, he had surfed in Bali, received scuba certification in Thailand, hiked the Great Wall, rode a yak in Tibet, and floated down the Mighty Mekong River in Vietnam.""It’s hard to believe that 6 years and many more adventures passed before he and his wife moved back home! A/er a year of teaching in Asia, many AT teachers: – transfer their teaching careers to other schools in China or Korea – shi/ focus within their current se>ng, and take on new roles at their school – Take their experience to a new country, new culture, and new people group. In the past, some
of our teachers go on to pursue work in Japan, others look to Southeast Asia for posiEons, and some even venture to the UAE or Saudi Arabia!
There are no predetermined teaching career paths in Asia… anything is possible!
We work with several different types of schools throughout both China and South Korea.
These schools vary in size, structure, loca7on, curriculum, etc., and range from the basic, privately run English Language Ins7tutes to large, well-‐run, and structured Language company chains. A/er you send us your applicaEon material, we’ll chat with you about which teaching opportuniEes would be a good fit for you!
What? The details. Requirements:
– EducaEon requirements vary: • Some schools require a Bachelor’s degree (in anything!) + TEFL CerEficate / CELTA • Some only require a BA / BS… in anything! • In China, schools also require at least 1 year of formal teaching experience
– Valid passport from: Canada, USA, UK Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland
– Age: 22 to 55 (24+ in China) Benefits: the benefits for each posiEon vary significantly depending on the school.
– Salary ranges from $950 – $1,200 USD/month in China and $1,800 – 2,200 USD/month in Korea depending on exchange rate
– Paid Vaca7on: 7+ days and Nat'l holidays – Visa: Sponsored work visa (we’ll help you get things together) – Travel: Some schools pay for your flight TO Asia, and will reimburse you upon your arrival. Others will pay for your
flight home. Others will give you a “travel allowance” – it just depends on the school!
– Arrival Support: most schools have an orientaEon AND on-‐site training before you begin teaching
– Accommoda7on: in Korea, schools provide a parEally furnished studio-‐size apartment AND pay your rent. Some schools in China also do the same, while other schools pay you a higher salary and let you arrange your own apartment.

• How many hours will I work? You will likely be required to be at your school for 40 hours a week; 22-30 teaching hours per week is pretty standard."

• How big are the classes? It depends on the school, but many language institute classes range from 8-15 students per class.!

What will my apartment look like?"
It will probably be a studio-style apartment. "The kitchen, washing machine and fridge are along one wall, and the bathroom is a separate room next the the front door. "
Sometimes studio apartments have a loft.."
Apartments are located in "high-rise buildings, most come "partially (if not fully) furnished, "with your necessary amenities "within a short walking distance. "
How do I get around?"
• It’s affordable! Public transportation is cheap and very convenient throughout China and Korea."
• It’s vast! Both countries have an extensive transportation system of buses, subways, taxis, trains, ferries, and planes."
• Weekend getaways – take an inter-city bus or train to another area of the country for around $20-50. "

How long is the contract? Your iniEal contract is 12 months. Depending on job performance, opportuniEes to extend your Eme in Asia may be available. Many teachers choose to stay with their school for one or two more years.
What is the average class size? Class sizes range from one-‐on-‐one private lessons to classes of 8-‐25.
What are my working hours? Most contracts are for a 40-‐hour work week, usually involving some evenings and weekends. Within the 40-‐hour work week, you will have enough Eme to plan, prep, teach, and perform other duEes as needed.
How many hours per week will I be teaching? 18-‐30 teaching hours are a part of your 40-‐hour work week. Teaching hours will depend on your school and the Eme of the year.

How much vaca7on 7me do I get? Schools offer 7-‐10 days, plus most naEonal holidays. Other schools offer more vacaEon days.
What are some of my non-‐teaching du7es? Non-‐teaching duEes can include class preparaEon, meeEng with potenEal students, wriEng student performance feedback, parent-‐student conferences, etc.
How do I apply? Once your visa documents are ready, your placement coordinator at Adventure Teaching will submit you for job openings that you would be a good fit for!
I can’t speak Chinese or Korean; is that a problem? You can teach in Asia without knowing how to speak the language. Our schools encourage all teachers to learn some of the local language and some even provide real-‐Eme online lessons to teachers. Of course, it is enErely up to you if you want to take the challenge!
When do teaching posi7ons start? Start dates are open throughout the year, depending on the country.
Can I choose the loca7on of the school? You can let us know your preferences during the Admissions Process. We’ll work hard to find you a good fit – a/er all, we’re keenly interested in you actually enjoying your Eme teaching overseas! Just remember: the more flexible you can be, the easier it is for us to narrow down which school will be the best fit!
How do I get a legal work visa? Our Visa Process Expert will help you every step of the way to obtain a legal work visa! The two documents that take the longest to obtain: a diploma and a background check.

What happens if I get sick?
Most schools provide comprehensive health insurance coverage for their teachers. It will cover you in the event of sickness and injury.
How will I get to know people and find friends? In addiEon to your colleagues at your school and the local community, you may meet other teachers in your area. To meet teachers who are already in country, some schools also have their own social network open exclusively to their teachers.
Where will I live? Some schools will provide you with an apartment during your Eme overseas. Others will connect you with one of their trusted real estate agents. Finding an apartment is easier than it sounds, and these schools will pay for a hotel for your first 2 weeks in country. Will I have enough money to support myself?
Schools in China and Korea offer a compeEEve salary that offers a good standard of living. Adventure Teaching teachers generally find that their salary gives them a purchasing power in Asia that is much stronger than in their home country.
