Overview

The “This or That” School Break Project is designed to keep students’ minds active and engaged while on school vacation. Students have the option of selecting 3 assignments to work on while on break. There are 6 possible assignments for students to complete in all. However, each assignment is paired with another and students have the choice to select “this one” or “that one.” By providing an opportunity for making choices, the assignments become more motivating and interesting for students. The assignments are designed to develop reading, writing, listening, and analyzing skills. Also, since the assignments tap into multiple learning styles, they improve student learning outcomes. With this project, students will not only return from their school vacation with new stories to share, they’ll also have practiced critical thinking skills that will have them ready to tap right back into classroom instruction.

How it Works

There are 3 “This or That” task pages. Each task page has directions for two assignments. After reviewing the tasks on the task page, students can select one of the assignments. Students will find the directions to complete each task right there on the task page. Then, on the next task page, they’ll select one of two assignments. Finally, on the last task page, they’ll select an assignment. They’ll complete a total of 3 assignments over break.

SCHOOL Break ProjectTHIS or THAT

A rubric is included in this resource for grading each

assignment.

Optional Resources

There are two sets of optional resources included in this product. These are available to help provide more structure for the completion of the assignments if you feel that your students could use additional guidelines. However, if you feel that the task cards themselves are enough for your students, you can certainly opt out of using the optional resources.

OPTIONAL PLANNING RESOURCES• Each assignment task has a coordinating planning resource.• These are designed to further frame the assignments and provide

additional guides for students.• If you use these, it may be nice to require that students turn them in

when they return to school as well.• These can easily be added to the “This or That” packet for students’

completion over break.

OPTIONAL FINAL COPY RESOURCES• Each assignment task has a coordinating final copy resource.• These have been created to help students produce high-quality

assignments over the school break.• If you use these, it may be nice to copy them on colored paper or

cardstock to make them stand out. • Or, these are the perfect first-day-back-from-break activity. You could

have students do the planning resources over break and then plan to have them create the final copies when they return back to school.

• These resources are also adaptable to other projects throughout the school year.

Thank you so much for your purchase! I hope that you’ll find that it

meets all of your expectations. I work really hard to create turn-key materials for you. My intention is that you’re just a photocopy away

from implementing this into your classroom. I strive to make the

materials I create top-notch, teacher-friendly, and student-centered. If you find that my intentions are not met, please let me know. Email

me at [email protected]. If you find that I’ve met my goals, again, please let me know. It would mean a lot to me if you

would add your complimentary comments to my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
