What is STaR Chart?

• STaR – School Technology and Readiness

- tool for planning and self assessing for teachers, campuses, and districts

- aligned with Long-Range Plan Technology, 2006-2020

Why was STaR Chart developed?

• Star chart was designed to help teachers, campuses, and school districts as a measurement tool in meeting technology standards specified by the No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D.

The importance of filling out a STaR Chart

• The STaR chart is designed to help teachers, campuses, and districts determine their progress towards meeting goals of the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology.

• Teaching and Learning

• Educator Preparation and Development

• Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support

• Infrastructure for Technology

Levels and Progress

• There are 4 levels of progress:

• Early Tech

• Developing Tech

• Advanced Tech

• Target Tech

The main goal is to reach the Target Tech in each of the 4 key areas of measurement.

Teaching and Learning

• The challenges are:

Teachers serve as a facilitator, mentor, and co-learner.

Students have on-demands access to all appropriate technologies.

Technology is integrated into all core content areas.

High Schools offer at least 4 Technology Application courses.

Educator Preparation

Schools offers regular technology-supported learner-centered projects.

Vertical alignment of Technology Application TEKS.

Anywhere use of online resources.

Administrators ensure integration of appropriate technology.

100% of educators meet SBEC standards.

At least 30% of technology budget is allocated to professional development.

Campus plan is focused on student success that is supported by school board and administration.

Technical support to 350 computers.

Campus instructional support staff.

A variety of funding is available.

Recommendations

Deer Park needs to stay on track so that we will continue to be in full compliance of all state technology requirements.

Deer Park ISD is meeting the state requirements in the field of technology.

There is always room for improve so the district needs to make sure that staff development is appropriate and funded.
