• Includes BEd, BSc and BA with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Main source of funding is:

Student Finance England package Targeted Support – depending on your personal circumstances

Undergraduate Courses – SFE Funding• Eligibility depends on status e.g. Home student / E.U student etc

• Home students on a full-time undergraduate course can apply to SFE for Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan and Maintenance Grant

• You will start repaying your loans when you earn £21,000 a year or more

•For every £1 of Maintenance Grant you are awarded your Maintenance Loan is reduced by £0.50p

• Part-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan but no student finance available for living costs

•For an estimate of how much you could receive use the Student Finance Calculator on the www.direct.gov.uk website

• SFE funding for ITT courses is paid irrespective of previous study (so long as student does not already hold QTS)

• DSA (and income-assessed targeted support if a full-time student) can also be applied for

SFE – Targeted Support 2012/13• Some students are eligible to apply for targeted support depending on their personal circumstances, for example if you have children, other dependents or a disability. Financial packages include: Parents Learning AllowanceAdult Dependents GrantChildcare Grant Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)

• Both full-time undergraduate and postgraduate trainee teacher students may be able to apply

• The amount you would receive is based on your household income (except for DSA):

• Part-time students can only apply for DSA

Up to £148.75 for one child; up to £255 for two or more children

SFE Part-Time Rates 2012/13

• Part-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan of between £4,500 and £6,750 a year

• You will need to repay your Tuition Fee Loan 3 years after you have finished studying on your course

• The amount of Tuition Fee Loan you receive depends on the intensity of your course (how long it takes compared to an equivalent full-time course)

• Tuition Fee Loans are paid direct to the University

• Part-time students with a disability can also apply for DSA

SFE Part-Time Rates 2012/13

• You can apply to SFE from March 2012 for the Tuition Fee Loan

• To confirm the intensity of your course and the tuition fee please contact the school office

• Part-time students will not be able to receive student financial support for living costs in 2012/13

• If you receive certain benefits you may be able to continue to receive these whilst studying – please check with an advisor

Repayment of Student Loans – Full Time Students 2012/13• Full time - you will not start to make repayments until you earn over £21,000 a year

• If your income falls below £21,000, your repayments stop – for example if you take a career break or are unemployed – until you start earning £21,000 again

• You repay 9% of your income above £21,000. The amount you repay depends on how much you earn, for example, if your salary was £25,000, the 9% would only apply to £4,000, meaning you would repay £30 a month

• All your student loans are added together and a single repayment will be deducted from your salary, normally through the tax system

• Any outstanding balance is written off after 30 years

Part-time students – you will start repayments 3 years after you finish your course

• Interest on your loan will be applied at the rate of inflation plus 3% while you are studying and up until the April after you leave university or college

• From the April after you leave your course, interest will be applied at:

the rate of inflation if you are earning below £21,000

the rate of inflation and up to + 3% on a gradual scale if you earn between £21,000 and £41,000

the rate of inflation + 3% if you earn over £41,000.
