Logging In Synergy users will receive an email from the MIS Synergy Team notifying them that their Synergy account has been established.

Access

1. Synergy Icon on desktop

-or-

2. www.synergy.phxschools.org

Always use Firefox as your browser

if using Chrome or Internet Explorer features of Synergy/TeacherVue will be disabled

3. Turn off Pop-Up Blockers

Login Name

first name, followed by period, than last name – no spaces

i.e. John Doe is john.doe

Note: There are times when exceptions need to be made to the Login Name – please refer to the email received from the MIS team for your specific Synergy Login Name

Password

First time logging on: password = “phoenix1” – you will then be prompted to create your own password:

Case sensitive

Must contain one number

Logging in as a Teacher

1. On the district’s Synergy SIS home page, enter your Login Name (as provided by the MIS team)

2. Enter your Password 3. Click Login

TeacherVue defaults to open to the homeroom class/section, announcements will display if applicable

Viewing Announcement The Synergy system defaults to display the District announcements each time you log in to the TeacherVue software.

Dismiss = message will not reappear

Close = dialog box will close and message(s) will reappear next time you log on On occasion, you may want to view the announcements after you have closed/dismissed them: 1. Select Home 2. Click Announcements

Selecting a Class/Section to Display By default, TeacherVue opens to a teacher’s homeroom class (period 1)

Once signed in teachers can select another class/section assigned to them

1. Click the Home menu

2. Select Change Class

A list of assigned classes/sections appear for departmentalized teachers

3. Select the desired class or section

The TeacherVue home screen displays the seating chart for the selected class/section or subject

Note: The Grade Book will only be active for the homeroom section (period 1) for non-departmentalized teachers

Attendance Teachers are required to take attendance 2X daily

AM (within the first 20 minutes of the school day)

PM (after lunch)

Chart

1. Hover over the Attendance button 2. Click Chart

The Taking Attendance screen displays o Select either AM or PM in the top left hand corner, if applicable

3. Click on the student information box (student picture if available) to toggle through attendance reasons

The color-coded and abbreviated reason code display

o = unverified absence

o = unverified tardy

Only mark students who are absent or tardy

All unmarked students are considered present 4. Click Save

The TeacherVue Home screen appears

List

1. Hover over the Attendance button 2. Click List

The Taking Attendance screen displays 3. Click on the student’s row under the correct date

Select the AM or PM column

4. Toggle through the attendance reasons

The color-coded and abbreviated reason code display

o = unverified absence

o = unverified tardy

Only mark students who are absent or tardy

All unmarked students are considered present 5. Click Save and Return

The TeacherVue Home screen appears

When attendance has been saved:

The Attendance button displays a green checkmark indicating that attendance has been taken today

-or-

Attendance Tallies for the day display on the right hand side of the screen

Confirmation that attendance was taken will also display on the course list

Individual Student Reports TeacherVue enables you to view and/or print reports for individual students

Current Reports Available:

Daily Attendance: → View Only → Days of Activity: Date and Reason → Totals

Daily Attendance Profile: → Students demographic and custodial information in conjunction with

attendance information: absent dates, codes, times and notes

Student Profile

→ Individual student data information: general, custodial, health, emergency, signature spot included for verification and permission to release

Grade Book → Class/Section Summary → Assignment Summary (print and edit) → All Classes Summary

Generating/Viewing Reports

1. On a TeacherVue Home screen seating chart, click on a student picture

Class/Section Reports TeacherVue enables you to print reports for all the students in a class/section

Current Reports Available:

Daily Attendance Profile: → Prints the students demographic and custodial information in conjunction with

attendance information: absent dates, codes, times and notes

Student Profile → Prints individual student data information: general, custodial, health,

emergency, signature spot included for verification and permission to release

Student and Parent Directory

→ Contact information: parent(s) name, phone numbers & addresses

Student Birthday List → Sorted by birth month and date, provides current age

Class List → Section data and student names listed alphabetically

Class Roster → Use as attendance roster or attendance verification: section data, student

names listed alphabetically, M-F attendance dated for the week

Emergency Contact Directory → Contact information in case of emergency

Section Seating Chart → Prints the seating chart created in TeacherVue for selected section: section

data, student name, student picture, Perm ID, use as attendance roster or attendance verification

Generating Reports

1. On the TeacherVue Home screen select the Report button

A list of available reports displays

2. Select a report output type: either PDF or TXT

3. Select a report

A status screen display the reports progress

The report will display in the selected format

4. Print or Save As

Seating Charts By default, TeachereVue opens to the seating chart for the current class:

The selected seating chart displays

The selected seating chart is the default seating chart displayed when logged into TeacherVue, until another is selected

4. Select the Seating Chart Configurations

Always Alpha Sorted: if using the seating chart for attendance purposes

selecting this option will always keep the students alphabetized when students are added or removed from the roster

Show Notifications: Alerts display in association for students on the seating chart for health, allergies, custody and/or special education

o Click on the alert itself, on the seating chart, to see the specifics associated with the student

6. Set the Seating Chart Dimension

Make sure there is space on the seating chart to accommodate all students a. Drag bar to the right to add a column,

-and/or b. Drag the bar down to add a row

Unassigned Students When students are newly added to a class roster they will default to populate to the Unassigned Students section and will not automatically populate directly onto the seating chart.

An alert will appear on the Home menu as notification that there are students currently Unassigned

Add Student to the seating chart Drag and Drop – drag an individual from the Unassigned Students list and

drop them anywhere in the seating chart

Fill Alpha – the system places all the student in the seating chart in alphabetical order

Fill Random – the system places all the students in the seating chart in random order

o If any students remain listed under Unassigned Students reset the Seating

Chart Dimension to accommodate for more students

Arrange the Seating Chart

Drag and Drop – drag an individual student from their current spot on the seating chart and drop them anywhere in the seating chart

Sort – the system arranges all the students currently in the seating chart in alphabetical order

Fill Random – the system arranges all the students currently in the seating chart in random order

Clear – all students are removed from the seating chart and become Unassigned

7. Click Save

Freeform seating charts provide the ability to set the seating chart to match the classroom configuration providing ease of classroom management for a variety of uses.

5. Type in the new chart name

1. Click Charts

3. Click Edit

4. Click Delete

5. Click Yes to Confirm deletion

Student nicknames, or preferred names, can display on seating charts

Entering Student Nicknames

1. Click Home 2. Select Student Nicknames

3. Type in the students preferred name in the nickname column

4. Click Save and Return

Displaying Nickname on Seating Chart 1. Select Charts

2. Click on the seating chart on which you want the nickname to display

3. Click Edit

4. Select Nicknames from the Student Name Format

5. Click Save

Adding Missing Student

If a student(s) is on the class roster & listed in grade book, but does not appear on the seating chart, following the below steps to add them: 1. Click Edit (next to the dialog box that reads “There are students who need to be

seated in the chart”)

2. Under Seating Chart Configuration Always Alpha Sorted

3. Make sure there is space on the seating chart to accommodate all students e. Scroll down till you locate the Seating Chart Dimensions f. Drag bar to the right to add a column,

-and/or g. Drag the bar down to add a row

4. Scroll down to Unassigned Students 5. Click Fill Alpha

If any students remain listed under Unassigned Students repeat steps 3-5

6. Click Save
