development opportunity?We hope you are!

The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools received a $2 million dollar grant to work with History-Social Science teachers

in our area across the grade levels to improve the quality of instruction in

American History.

What is TAH ROF?

TAH is an abbreviation for the federal grant program titled: Teaching American History

ROF is our short way of referring to our project title: Discovering the Roots of

Freedom in American History

What we offer:Professional Development ServicesAll presenters, locations, and refreshments provided free of charge to districts.• Enthusiastic, engaging, and accomplished lead scholar• In-depth content training in the H-SS standards by distinguished scholars• Research-based academic strategies delivered by leaders in the field• Field study component to fully engage participants in H-SS standards• Seamless educational technology component training embedded throughout series• Substitute reimbursement provided for all release days from site including coaching sessions at sites to be determined at the discretion of site administrators• Teacher participation in a regional professional learning community

What we offer:

Educational Technology ServicesSupporting learning modalities of digital natives.• ESOURCE subscription for all teachers in program• ePortfolio accounts for all teachers in the program to use in the classroom• Specific training in multimedia practices that engage adolescent learners • Access to a Teaching American History grant website as a professional development resource

What we offer:

Quality ResourcesSupporting the delivery of H-SS standards while building literacy skills through high quality materials.• Teachers receive historical monographs aligned to H-SS standards. • Teachers receive “History in a Box” multimedia kits from Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. • Teachers receive additional curricula to assist in delivery of content standards.• Teachers designated as coaches receive research-based literature to support their professional development.

What we offer:

Incentives for TeachersA $1500.00 stipend is available to teachers that commit to the coaching training program.A $500.00 stipend is available to teachers that commit to the participating teacher role.

Alternatively, we are working on incorporating a field study experience in Washington, D.C. if teachers are interested and our plan is approved.

A coach . . .Supports and guides the Participating Teacher (PT) at the site in the process of integrating technology tools into historical literacy instruction in support of the adopted curriculum.• Attends all program sessions and receives curricular materials and historical monographs• Develops and models curriculum-aligned lessons• Develops and models effective technology-enhanced instructional strategies• Participates in peer observation and reflective coaching• Participates in data collection as needed to support program analysis, modification, and reporting

A participating teacher . . .The Role of the Participating TeacherTo integrate technology tools into historical literacy instruction in support of the adopted curriculum.• Attend selected program sessions with site coach • Receive curricular materials and historical monographs• Develop and implement curriculum-aligned lessons• Implement effective technology-enhanced instructional strategies• Participate in peer observation and reflective coaching sessions with site coach• Data collection as needed to support program analysis, modification, and reporting
