When do you usually congratulate someone?

In this chapter, we are going to learn about congratulation cards and how to create it.

B. MODELLING OF TEXT

What is congratulation card?

Congratulation card is a card that is used to congratulate someone or to express your happiness toward somebody else’s success.

When do we write congratulation card?

We write congratulation card when somebody is successful or gets achievement, or happy because of something and we want to congratulate them because we are happy to see his success or happiness. For example, we want to congratulate our sister when she graduates from Senior High School or when she wins a competition, so we write it.

We may also congratulate someone who:

1. Is married or engaged to someone

2. Has born a new baby

3. Gets a good score or achievement, etc.

Example:

Arini was happy because her friend, Anne, was successful in establishing her new company. So, Arini sent a congratulation card to Anne.

Below are other examples of congratulation card. Read them carefully!

Why do the writer of those cards write those cards?

Discuss the answers with your friend sitting next to you!

THE STRUCTURE OF CONGRATULATION CARD

To learn about congratulation card, we must know the structure first. Look at the following example:

As you can see on the card above, the writer of the card usually write the addressee, the expressions of congratulating someone and the sender in the congratulation card.

THE ADDRESSEE

In writing congratulation card, we usually write the addressee or somebody whom we address the card.

We may write:

1. Dear Johnnie,

2. To: Saliha,

3. Katrina,

THE EXPRESSIONS OF CONGRATULATING SOMEONE

A card is considered as congratulation card when there is one or more expression of congratulating someone.

Below are the examples of the expression of congratulating someone:

Congratulations!

Selamat!

Congratulation for your success!

Selamat atas kesuksesanmu

I congratulate you for your achievement!

Saya menyelamati kamu atas prestasimu!

THE SENDER

Writing the name of the sender enables the addressee knows who sends the card to him/her. Here are the examples:

2. Your friend, Rena

3. Love, Mommy

4. Fara

NOTE:

WE MAY ALSO WRITE ANOTHER EXPRESSIONS THAT EXPRESS OUR HAPPINESS OUR PROUD TOWARD SOMEONE’S SUCCESS IN THE CONGRATULATION CARDS. FOR EXAMPLE:

3. Devina has set a goal and in a short period of time, she achieves it. You congratulate her.

4. Ervi graduates from SMA N 21 Jakarta with good marks. You express your proud to her through congratulation card.

5. Eko and Winda hold their wedding party in a church today. You send a congratulation card to them.
