Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Project Descriptions
Team 726 is continuing and expanding on research conducted by Team 627/727 (Fall 2003) and Team 682/702 (Summer 2004) in assessing ITTTM Toolkit System under virtual team environment.
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Project Objectives
1. Complete six toolkit assignments, assessing five SDA’s in each toolkit, modifying the tools to enhance the virtual team, presenting findings, and recommendations as phase reports.
2. Develop team portfolio reflecting 17 unique SDA’s and 4 continuously improved RCA’s in “grand” forms addressing main elements of appropriate ISO 9000 standard (2002 preferred).
3. Identify areas for improvement to streamline the process in using ITTTM Toolkit System.
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Problem Statement
The focus of our team project is the assessment of the ITTTM Toolkit System (sections 13-18) to determine the viability of the ITTTM Toolkit System in the application of ISO 9000 type implementation in a small to mid size service organization. We will refer to ISO 9000 (2002) as our reference standard.
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Assumptions / Limitations
Small to mid-size service organization Operating in virtual team environment Data availability Toolkits applicability Different level of experience in using ITTTM Toolkit
System (learning curve)
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Methodology
The research methodology to be used is that of using the team to attempt to complete each element of the toolkit studied this semester to determine the level of understanding, the ease in completion of the tools and the transference to implementation. If we as students can successfully agree on what works, what needs improvement and how to improve, the beneficiaries will be the organizations who will use this toolkit to implement a Quality System that works.

Tool 13 Summary
Focus and benefits of data Foundational definitions of quality Attributes, defects, defectives Inspection, data gathering systems
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
FACR – Tool 13
Team 726 has reviewed, analyzed and discussed topics related to Toolkit 13.
Members have attempted to use SDA’s, such as PASPC, VSPC, GOTA, DSDC and ISOQSAOPP to document lessons learned and examine processes in approaching our team project.
Our team has come to a consensus on narrowing down research focus and project topic after reviewing postings from members and discussing the alternatives presented to our team.
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
FACR – Tool 13, continued All current team members (2 new members will be
actively involved starting with Toolkit 14) have participated in discussions, conducted independent research on related topics and taken responsibility in compiling research data. The long and short forms are the results of the teamwork.
Although it has taken Team 726 some time to determine project focus/objectives and to be familiarized with the ITTTM Toolkit System (particularly with new improvements/processes), we have finally come together to explore exciting learning and improvement opportunities.

Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
FACR – Tool 14
Team focus is getting clearer Some tools are a stretch for this module VSPC is good
for variable data but not attribute Attribute data is common in many service industries Team is still learning how to work together Data collection is critical, need to modify form to make
more service friendly General inspection form pretty good can go without any
modification Safety checklist needs work Outside reading topics show the diversity of the group
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Tool 15 Summary
Attribute vs. variable systems Requirements and elements for charting Steps for constructing control charts Short run systems Using charts for ongoing improvement
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
FACR – Tool 15 Team continues to focus, and has developed a project focus.
Effort has started on Discussion Board to identify RCA/SDA’s in Tools 13-18 to be modified as part of Team project.
More involved team members are using and posting to Discussion Board on frequent basis, some multiple times daily.
Most tools are a stretch for ready use in this module. The VSPC, PASPC, and VDSRPC SDA’s are good for variable data but
not attribute. They would probably not be particularly useful for a small, virtual service
organization. Attribute data is common in many service industries, and the GIS
and CEAS SDA’s would be candidates for modification in the Team Project.
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
FACR – Tool 15, continued Team is still learning how to work together.
Issues with meeting deadlines and communications. One team member may drop class, and team will have to redistribute
tasks. Data collection is critical, need to modify form to make more service
friendly. This could include formatting decisions on focus of SDA’s, in particular.
Outside reading topics show the diversity of the group. Literature search as part of TRIRPA - or FACR – has demonstrated
value in bringing in new and related information and ideas.

Team 726 Project, continued The Team Project also included Form
Improvements by Timothy Chow for Tool 18: This included PPDPOA, TRIRPA, TPPMA, PASPC, and
VSPC from Tool 17 Capability Calculation (CC) Supplier Audit General Evaluation (SAGE) Preliminary Systematic Design Of Experiments (PSDOE)
The Team also developed a generic Findings, Analysis, Conclusions, Recommendations (FACR) for use with all Regular Critique Assessments (RCA) and Standard Dedicated Assessments (SDA)
Team 726 - Phase II Short Form - Fall 2004
Conclusion Team 726 adapted new features/processes in using
ITTTM Toolkit System, members discussed and reaching consensus in completing all RCA’s and SDA’s, particularly in adopting common practice to streamline FACR process. This step is in accordance with both the Project Objectives #1 and #2.
Utilizing primarily the Discussion Board (R&D Forum) and other communication tools, Team 726 identify four specific SDA’s to be modified for use by virtual teams in service industries. The modified SDA’s will be a part of the project deliverables. This step is corresponding to the Project Objective #3.
