ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Humane Society Serving Clark County, Inc.
Mission: Helping animals in need
• Finding sound homes for animals• Lost and found services• Spaying/neutering• Licensing and micro-chipping• Preventing and stopping animal cruelty
4
ORIGIN AND SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM
More space is necessary in order to:• Prevent the spread of disease• Accommodate more animals
• Better treat injured and sick animals
• Improve visibility for prospective adopters
New Modern Kennels
Old Wire Fence Kennels
5
WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE
• Lack of awareness– limited donations– advertising is pricey
• Public assumptions– people believe the organization is funded by tax dollars– society assumes that other people will help
• The facility is understaffed– minimal help is available– time is spent on most crucial matters
6
OTHER SOLUTIONS – SUCCESS/FAILURES
• “Miserable Failures” (J. Straley, personal communication, July 16, 2013)– Garage sales– Golf outings
• “Successful” (J. Straley, personal communication, July 16, 2013)– Selling candles– Discount cards to local businesses– Raffling off a car
• None of these both encourage adoption and raise money for expansion.
