Ironman Cozumel – 11:48:51, 6th

M55-59. This was about 50 mins

slower than I had hoped for, but

the conditions were probably the

toughest ever for this race

venue. There were over 2700 reg-

istered but only 1788 official fin-

ishers. Over 300 people were

pulled from the water during the

swim due to the strong current and

choppy surf. The boats started

bringing in the weakest swimmers

within 20 minutes of the start be-

cause they were not making for-

ward progress against the cur-

rent. Although the course was a single

loop rectangle, the current seemed

even stronger on the return leg and a

lot of folks ran out of gas trying to

make it back to the dock. If you sur-

vived the swim, you had to face high

winds on the 3 loop bike course, and it

felt like it was getting worse every lap

… not to mention that my Garmin had

it at 113.25 miles instead of 112. Talk

about adding insult to injury! It was

sunny and 80 degrees when I got off

the bike, and I just wasn’t doing well

in the heat for the first 10 miles. As the

sun got lower in the sky, it cooled off a lit-

tle, but the damage was done and I did not

run well. But all was not lost, because I

made a new friend, Jose. I am enclosing a

picture of Jose looking enviously at my

flaming skull. His bone dry skull just

looks tired by comparison. And those

charcoal eye sockets just don’t work as

well as my Boston Bills! Jose was really

nice, and even introduced me to his entire

extended family. They all hope you will

travel to Cozumel to experience their hos-

pitality and test yourself on a tough

course.

Hi, Its Bailey Monarch. I am the walk coordinator for the Tampa Bay NEDA walk. I would like to invite you again to participate in a fabulous marketing and philanthropic opportunity – the Tampa Bay NEDA Walk. I am now a typical 19 year old freshman at college; but three and a half years ago, I found my-self engulfed by a disease that I knew nothing about – anorexia. As part of my recovery, I wanted to unite the Tampa Bay community to raise awareness of eating disorders so that no one would have to face the pain and suffering that my family and I had to endure.

In 2011, I created the first Tampa Bay NEDA walk and had 351 walkers and raised just under $34,000. In 2012, Tampa Bay, together with the sponsors, again rose to the chal-lenge. Because of people like you,Tampa Bay's Second Annual National Eating Disor-ders Association Walk had 426 walkers and raised over $65,000!

This year we hope to far surpass that number! However, I would love to have more treatment centers sponsor, form teams, and get involved in the walk. I want people that are struggling to be able to meet the professionals, have some one to talk to, and hopefully find the appropriate treatment center to jhelp them begin their journey to recovery. Over the past year, we have been contacted by many people who are struggling and don't know where to turn. My goal is for everyone struggling to be able to find help and support. I have attached the marketing brochure for this year. The walk will take place February 16, 2013. Please feel free to forward it to anyone who may be interested. Please check out "Why I fight" atwww.fighteatingdisorders.com. You can sign up to sponsor, walk, form a team, or join a team at www.fighteatingdisorders.com or www.nedawalks.org /Tampa2013. . We are certainly hoping for your support Look forward to talking to you soon.

Thank you , Bailey Monarch Bailey & Cherie' Monarch Tampa Bay NEDA Walk Coordinators 2820 Meadowview CT Tarpon Spings, FL 34688 Cell: 727-422-3668 [email protected]

The 2013 St. Pete Beach Classic is

holding a competition among inter-

ested area clubs and their support-

ers! Here’s how it works – When

one of your members or supporters

registers to run in any one of our

competitions (Half-marathon, 10K, 5K, Duo, Marathon Challenge or Kids

Dashes), they will have the opportunity to select the name of a participat-

ing club from a drop-down menu. The club with the most entries will re-

ceive a $250 donation from the Classic!! To include your club in the com-

petition, please indicate your desire to participate and you will be added to

the drop-down list!! Best of luck and thank you for your support of the St.

Pete Beach Classic!! Al Alan P. Johnson

Here's how it works - when you register for any of our races on line they'll

be an optional drop down question as to which club you support. Click

there, select Team Psych, and continue with the registration. When on-line

closes (1/13/13), I'll down load the entries and the club with the most votes

wins!

Anyone who enters can vote for your club, they don't have to be a member

- so go out and recruit supporters!

I'm committing to a minimum of $250 donation for the winning club, but I

hope to raise that and possibly give a runner-up prize if I get enough clubs

to participate. Right now I have 4.

I'll have Team Psyche in the drop-down this afternoon.

Thanks for participating, best of luck!!

Al
