  • Longboat Key Sprint Tri While the Captain and his

    cutthroat crew were plun-

    dering the Atlantic Coast

    at the Rocketman Triath-

    lon and having their way

    with the locals riff-raff, a

    small stay back crew de-

cided to do a little pillag-

    ing and hell raising of

    their own at the Longboat

    Key Triathlon & Duathlon

on the gulf side. With the wind blowing mightily (15-20 mph) and

the sun shining, 4 members of Team Psych decided to take home

some booty of our own while having a good time. It started at the

crack of dawn with Jason Casuga placing 2nd in the Male 30-34

age group in the Triathlon. Then the ladies decided to get in on the

fun. Michelle Jarrell took home 1st place and Kim Souders fin-

ished in 2nd place in the Female Athena under 40 age group Tri.

Michelle also was the 2nd place Overall for all Athena athletes. Fi-

nally Chris Barnes decided to take his share of the treasure with a

1st place in the Male 50-54 age group Duathlon. All were happy to

steal away from Longboat with their earnings, and enjoyed a good

time. We have begun a plan to plunder some more loot at their race

    in October also. AARRGGHH !!!

We have included a picture to display some of the hardware. From

left to right; Bill Demambro, Team Run Vie (1st place Male 70-74

Duathlon), Michelle Jarrell, Kim Souders, Chris Barnes.

These rides will be in the 15-25 mile range. They

will vary in locations. The goal is to develop skills in

riding, especially with a group. There will be a ex-

perienced team member that will agree to keep the

beginner rider on track to the end of the ride.

There is no excuse to say you have to be stronger or

more experienced. the point of these rides is to help

the beginner or novice athlete become a triathlete and

elevate skills in riding for the beginning triathlete.

This is the second race of the sea-

son that has been novel to me. This

is the first time anyone has done

RocketMan. In a word, do this race

if you get a chance. I suggest you

not do it while there are 25 MPH

winds. Great swim in the Indian

    River, it sure beats busting

through the waves on the Atlantic

    just across the river. Simple

    swim course works for simple

minds like mine. Bust right out

of transition and you get to go up

  • a bridge. Its not high but

its a long incline and then into the wildlife preserve en-

    try to Kennedy Space Center

    where you pass launch pads

    and the Assembly Center.

    Oh, those winds were com-

pletely to our backs all the

    way. Nearing the end was

    certain once the bridge was

in sight. Yeah, when are you

    happy to see a bridge?

    Did I mention the winds

again? Did I mention this is the only

sprint triathlon I have ever done that

the bike was 33 miles. Yeah, the

    Olympic Distance competitors did

    the same distance.

Sweet out and back run for all three

distances, except the 70.3 guys did a

    double loop.

Should I mention that I barely beat

arch nemesis, Tom Monaweck by one

    minute.
