Explore More under ExploreLooking for more resources? Look no longer. Under each concept you’ll find the Explore tab and a link that says Explore More Resources. You’ll find additional resources here ranging from video segments, to reading passages and hands-on activities.
Explore Timelines Like Never BeforeIn case you haven’t heard, we are in development of the Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook. It’s currently in Beta, but will be available soon for trials. For those who are part of our Beta group, checkout the brand new Timeline Inquiry Investigation. Students can now dive into history and investigate sequence of events like never before.
Share Sections of the Model LessonHave you ever wanted to share a part of the Model Lesson with a colleague, but not the whole lesson? Now you can share just the section you need to.
ImplementationWe are constantly updating content and features. Most recently we added the ability for students to edit student guides online. Check out this new feature here.
You asked for it and we’ve delivered. The Interactive Glossary continues to grow with hundreds of terms added in the last 6 months. With terms now spanning K-12, we’ve added the ability to filter by grade ranges: K-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

Lesson Presentation Options:✦ Representation of an existing Discovery Education
Science Techbook model Lesson✦ Adaptation of existing Discovery Education Science
Techbook model lesson to support specific students (e.g., special needs, ELL, academically gifted students, struggling readers, etc.)
✦ Original lesson using Discovery Education Science Techbook resources
Presentation tools: You may use Microsoft PowerPoint or Keynote for your presentation.
Remember that the Discovery Education Model Lessons represent several days of learning, your lesson presentation should as well. Click here to see an example presentation.

Requirements:✦ We would like your presentation to be a minimum of 10 slides.
There is no maximum length.
✦ A title slide that includes concept and grade level(s)
✦ A slide with the lesson objectives
✦ A slide with essential questions
✦ At least one slide (activity) for each component of a typical 5E lesson (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate)
✦ At least THREE uses of digital resources from the Discovery Education Science Techbook
✦ Information in the notes section that describes the intention of each slide (what the teacher and the students are doing)
✦ Several opportunities for the students to be engaged with the content. Examples include notebook/journal entries, hands-on activities, group discussions, prompts for logging in to DE to do individual work, project work
✦ At least one slide that includes some form of checking for understanding

What: Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge
Discovery Education and 3M are looking for students in grades 5-8 who are enthusiastic about science. To enter the 2013 competition, students must create a 1-2 minute video describing a new innovation or solution that could solve or impact an everyday problem related to how we live, how we work or how we play. Ten finalists will participate in an exclusive summer mentorship with a 3M scientist and receive a trip to the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN to compete for the chance to win $25,000 and the title of "America's Top Young Scientist"!
