Course Content
Main Business Scenario You are a member of your company's implementation
team for reporting. You have to define an evaluation structure that enables your company to analyze production data for each plant.
These analyses must include the following information: plant, MRP controller, material, order, and work center. Subprocesses relevant for the analyses must include production orders, confirmations, goods receipts and goods issued. These statistics are to include quantities and times.
Standard structures may suffice for most of your requirements, but there may also be special situations where you will have to create your own structures to provide the information needed.

Information Structures: Business Scenario Management wants an online analysis tool that will allow them to
see monthly production figures based on Plant and MRP controller data.
An existing system is currently being used for reporting, and the users do not want to lose this functionality. You have been asked to analyze the existing reporting structures within R/3 to see if any of them will meet the needs stated in the above business scenario.
After working with PPIS for a short time, Management has requested a report that includes only the plant and work center data. The areas to be measured include quantities and times.
Management has noticed that key figure updates are not period-specific and wants this to be corrected.
In addition, Management requests that a key figure be developed that reflects the efficiency of a work center.

Information Structures: Unit Summary Information structures in LIS are database tables
containing characteristics, time-related characteristics, and key figures with the associated units.
Within the SAP System, various information structures are provided for each application including a number of standard key figures.
In addition, you can use field catalogs and the LIS tools to create your own individual information structures.

Update Rules: Business scenario The date for the goods receipt quantity in your new
structure will have to be changed so that it will be updated in the correct period. A reliable planned/actual comparison is not needed in this case.
Management wants to track production activities on a monthly basis. Although online updating is needed for current data, they are concerned about system performance.
Management requires some interim testing of the new information structure.

User-Defined Information Structures: Business Scenario Management requires a new monthly efficiency
evaluation for the individual work centers. This evaluation should be based on the total of all activity types.
Since your company uses special work centers where the first three characters have a particular significance, Management wants another evaluation level based on these three characters.

Characteristic-Based Key Figures in Standard Analyses
Carry out the preparations in the Data Dictionary that are necessary to add new fields to the systemIn doing so, you define the technical and text attributes of the key figures.
This information is then transferred to user-defined field catalogs, which form the basis for creating information structures.
You are now able to:

Cross-Application Updating
Extended Updating Control: Unit Summary Use formulas and conditions in ABAP to finely tune
the update control for each key figure and to evaluate characteristics and the key figures themselves. This enables you to describe more complex update operations in detail.
The problem of cross-application updates can also be solved in LIS. For this purposes, you can define your own applications with combined application attributes.

The project team has finished creating and testing the new information structures. Management wants to start using the analyses as soon as possible. Before they can do so, the data from the last 6 months has to be set up in the new info structures. Because the update rules have changed, the data cannot simply be copied from the standard information structures.

Course ObjectivesYou are now able to
Explain the extent to which LIS Information Structures form the database for standard analyses.
Detail the function of communication structures
Use the options for finely tuning statistics updates in LIS
Name the PP processes that are statistically relevant in LIS
Create your own field catalogs for characteristics and key figures
Create your own information structures with user-defined characteristics and key figures
Use formulas and conditions for finely tuning the statistics update in LIS
You now have detailed LIS knowledge in the Shop Floor controlling area. On the basis on this knowledge, you should be able to use LIS in other areas (for example, QM Info System, PM Info System).
You can gain further in-depth knowledge by attending the course LO940, for which this course is a prerequisite.

Analysis program Analysis program
LO275 Overview: Business scenario You are a member of your company's implementation
team for reporting. You have to define an evaluation structure that enables your company to analyze production data for each plant.
These analyses must include the following information: plant, MRP controller, material, order, and work center. The sub-processes relevant to the analyses are production orders, confirmations, goods receipts, and goods issues. These statistics are to include quantities and times.
Standard structures may suffice for most of your requirements, but there may also be special situations where you will have to create your own structures to provide the necessary data.
LO275 Summary and Conclusion In your company, you are responsible for providing statistical
information in the respective Logistics application areas. You have to meet a large variety of information requirements.
You first need to decide whether the LIS standard covers the requirement in question. For requirements not covered by the standard system, LIS provides various tools to meet individual information needs.
LIS often provides more than one method of approaching individual solutions. The solution you opt for in each case will be dictated by performance criteria during the update and analysis procedures, and by the required "up-to-dateness" of the information. These solutions range from online updating and batch processing on one hand, and between the static and dynamic provision of information on the other.
