INGREDIENTS: L-Arginine L-arginine is an amino acid necessary for protein synthesis. Alpha- ketogluteric acid provides the most bioavailable form of arginine. L-arginine is best known for its effects on the vascular system. L-arginine is a substrate for the nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzyme. NOS in vascular endothelial cells converts L-arginine to nitric oxide (NO), also known as endothelial-derived relaxation factor (EDRF), which causes vasodilation. By enhancing the action on NO this in turn relaxes the muscles surrounding blood vessels supplying the penis (1). As a result, blood vessels in the penis dilate, increasing blood flow, which may help maintain an erection (2). Epimedium (Horny Goat Weed) Researchers believe flavonoids, icariin, polysaccharides, glycosides, ceryl alcohol, essential oils and fatty acids are the active constituents of the leaf that is the applicable part. Epimedium causes vasodilation, possibly by blocking calcium channels. Animal research suggests that Epimedium promotes semen secretion and stimulates growth of prostate, testes, and anus rector muscles. Researchers believe Epimedium increases testosterone secretion (3). Icariin has been shown to help erectile dysfunction. Stinging Nettle Root Stinging nettle contains polysaccharides with immunomodulating and anti-inflammatory effects. Recent European research has identified constituents of nettle root that bind sex hormone binding globulins (SHBG) in place of testosterone, thus reducing SHBG’s binding of free testosterone. As the authors of one study state, these constituents of nettle root influence the blood level of free (i.e. active) steroid hormones by displacing them from the SHBG binding sites, keeping testosterone more active. MEN'S VITALITY™Men’s Vitality™ formula (formerly Andropause™) is a state of the art formula containing a unique blend of nutrients that tonify, support, and strengthen the male body and reproductive system. After age 30, most men begin to experience a gradual decline in testosterone. When men (and, for that matter, women) think about the powers of testosterone, they are not likely to consider mental processes. Indeed, the male hormone has much more obvious roles in a man's body. Still, new research suggests that testosterone plays a vital role in masculine mentality. Many of the ingredients in Men’s Vitality™ have been clinically shown to increase free testosterone levels which support a stronger libido, improve sexual function, and promote greater muscle mass. The ingredients in Men’s Vitality™ have also been shown to help stimulate circulation, improve endocrine function, reduce inflammation, lower high blood pressure, strengthen the nervous system, and promote stamina and mental acuity. Tribulus Terrestris The applicable parts of Tribulus terrestris are the leaf, fruit and root, and contain saponins such as diosgenin and protodiacin, flavonoids and alkaloids. Preliminary research suggests Tribulus terrestris increases levels of testosterone via stimulation of the pituitary gland. This stimulation promotes the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH), which increases unbound free testosterone levels, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and dihydrotestosterone (6). The main and active constituent is protodioscin, which has been clinically shown to increase levels of the hormones testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and DHEA. (7). Tribulus terrestris was shown to enhance erections better than testosterone cypionate.

Tongkat Ali Tongkat Ali has been dubbed the “Asian Viagra,” and has been used traditionally for erectile dysfunction, increased libido and sexual potency. Scientific studies reported that the plasma testosterone level of Tongkat Ali extract in treated rats was significantly increased when compared with that of untreated animals. The active ingredients in Tongkat Ali extract capture and bind steroid hormone binding globulin (SHBG), a protein that binds free testosterone in the blood plasma making it biologically inactive. An increase of estrogen in men can contribute to the development of gyneco-mastia (male breasts). Tongkat Ali has the capacity to reverse the inhibitory effects of estrogen on testosterone production and spermatogenesis.

AshwagandhaAshwagandha is clinically proven to decrease cortisol levels and increase DHEA to help support enhanced energy and performance. In a double-blind, placebo controlled human clinical trial involving 98 subjects, consumption of ashwagandha resulted in a 24.2% reduction in serum cortisol levels and a 32.2% increase in serum DHEA levels in subjects. Another result of insufficient testosterone is reduced levels of nitric oxide (NO) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which are necessary for producing an erection (8). If testosterone is low, pharmaceuticals like Viagra®, Cialis® and Levitra® fail to work. Ashwagandha has been shown to increase oxygenation of tissues through the synthesis and activity of NO synthase, the enzyme that produces NO in the body (9). The resulting expansion of blood vessels helps improve blood flow and oxygenation of tissues leading to increased energy in the body (10).

Zinc Zinc is a biologically essential trace element and is the second most abundant trace element in the body. Zinc is involved in more than 300 of the body’s different metabolic enzymes and is also a large factor in both immune function and hormone function. Testosterone is a male hormone that is responsible for increasing muscle mass and fertility in men. A zinc deficiency results in lower serum testosterone levels of healthy adults (11).

Panax Ginseng

The applicable part of Panax ginseng is the root. Ginseng is widely used as a general tonic and adaptogen. We utilize a Panax ginseng that is standardized to contain 80% ginsenosides, making it the most potent and effective Panax ginseng available. Ginsenosides are the active ingredient and have a wide range of pharmacological activity and effects. Panax ginseng supports male reproductive health by supporting testosterone and spermatozoa levels. Ginseng works to help prevent premature ejaculation by increasing the penile vibratory threshold and reducing the amplitude of penile somatosensory evoked potentials (12).

Muira Puama Muira puama, found in the Amazon rainforest, is used for preventing sexual disorders and to increase interest in sexual activity, as an aphrodisiac. Muira puama increases libido, improves erectile function, and promotes the growth of neurons which help memory and learning processes while decreasing damage to other neurons. Muira puama is effective in increasing energy levels in both mental and physical fatigue and helps with stress-induced depression and anxiety.

L-CitrullineL-Citrulline is an alpha-amino acid that the body converts into L-Argine and nitric oxide (NO), a gas that helps dilate blood vessels. The same effect on blood vessels helps improve the symptoms of erectile dysfunction (ED). The L-citrulline to NO path increases blood flow to the penis decreasing ED symptoms and improving the ability to maintain erections. L-citrulline supplementation has shown promise as a blood pressure lowering intervention (both resting and stress-induced) in adults with pre-/hypertension, with pre-clinical evidence for atherogenic-endothelial protection (13). Preliminary evidence is also available for L-citrulline prompted benefits to muscle and metabolic health (via vascular and non-vascular pathways) in susceptible/older populations.

Maca (Lepidium meyenii) Maca is the root of a vegetable native to the Andes region of Peru. Known as “Peruvian ginseng,” maca is actually a member of the cruciferous family and cultivated and eaten as a vegetable root crop. Maca is used to boost energy and increase libido. Two polyunsaturated fatty acids, macaene and macamide, increase sexual activity and erectile dysfunction (14).

Saw Palmetto Saw palmetto is an extract of the berry of the saw palmetto tree (Serenoa repens). The Seminole tribe in Florida used Saw palmetto to treat urinary and sexual problems. Saw palmetto inhibits 5-reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) (15). By decreasing the conversion of testosterone to DHT, Saw palmetto can increase testosterone levels. Saw palmetto has traditionally been used to treat erectile dysfunction and improve sexual function.
