1. INITIAL INFORMATION.

Product Brief - Electronic Hook Switch Adaptor (LIP-EHS)

For connecting wireless headsets to Ericsson-LG iPECS system LIP handsets.

Description

The LIP-EHS (Electronic Hook Switch) Adaptor is a product that connects a wireless office headset with an Ericsson-LG keyset. The adaptor allows the headset user to hear incoming call notification in the headset earpiece, and to answer and terminate calls by pressing a button on the headset. This enables the customer to take full advantage of the wireless headset, and to be able to operate the phone while being away from the workstation/desk. The EHS Adaptor supports a number of wireless headsets from GN Netcom® / Jabra™ and Plantronics® Inc.

The LIP-EHS is packaged in a white cardboard box – ready for customer shipment. The EHS adaptor is required to use 2.3D firmware as a minimum – this is noted on the label of the EHS or via an adhesive label. If your EHS is not 2.3D or newer you will need to have it upgraded/replaced. (As of 9/11/2012 the current compatible EHS version is 2.4)

Also some headsets may meet customer requirements better than others. If a headset is unsuitable e.g. has a delay in connecting/disconnecting, please try another model. Unlisted headsets may or may not function correctly at all – if required, unlisted headsets can be tested at Aria Technologies Melbourne for a nominal testing fee to determine compatibility, settings & functionality.)

Addcom® Addcom-670 Addcom-680 When using a GN Netcom tm / Jabra tm headset in standard mode (RHL mode) restrictions apply. The call must be initiated, answered and terminated by pressing the headset button first — pressing the speaker button on the telephone will not turn the headset on or off. For GN Netcom tm /Jabra tm models the best performance is achieved when the headset is adjusted to DHSG mode. Supported headsets from Plantronics support two way communication. For supported GN Jabra headsets, two way communication is only supported in the DHSG mode. Headsets not supporting DHSG mode are marked with an '*' on the previous page. Other headset vendors may offer headsets that claim to be compatible with the LIP-EHS Adaptor, however Aria Technologies will not conduct testing or accept anecdotal evidence of compatibility of these headsets.

Installation Considerations

The LIP-EHS Adaptor is connected to the Ericsson-LG telephone through the DSS connector. If one or more DSS modules are fitted on the telephone, the EHS adaptor is attached to the last DSS module. (Connection to LIP-40LSS - LIP 40 BTN LCD DSS MODULE is not recommended, due to lack of accessibility to the DSS connector on the handset). The LIP-EHS adaptor is connected to the AUX port on the wireless headset base station through one of the two cables supplied with the adaptor. The audio connection between the wireless headset and the headset port on the telephone is handled by the cable enclosed with the wireless headset. The audio stream is not passing through the LIP- EHS adaptor.

2. INSTALLATION

Connecting the LIP-EHS Adaptor

Disconnect power from the Ericsson-LG tm phone by removing the power adaptor (or

the network cable if using POE).

Connect the 4 wire (RJ11) audio cable that is supplied with the cordless headset. The

cable is connected to the headset plug on the telephone and to the base station of the

headset.

Connect the signalling cable between the LIP-EHS adaptor and the cordless headset

base station.

o For the GN Netcom tm / Jabra tm headsets the enclosed 8 wire (RJ45) modular

cable is used.

o For the Plantronics tm use the enclosed 3.5mm jack cable.

Connect the flat cable on the LIP-EHS adaptor to the expansion socket on the side of the

telephone. The red marking on the cord must be orientated upwards as per the

black arrow on the LIP handset.

If DSS or LSS consoles are installed on the keyset the LIP-EHS adaptor is fitted to the

expansion port on the last DSS/LSS console.

Adjust the termination switch on the headset base station to setting 'A'.

Ensure that the headset mode is enabled in telephone by pressing: Trans-6-1-2 on

the Ericsson-LG keyset. (Older non-compatible software code was Trans-6-1-0. If this appears to be

your code your iPECS requires upgrading.)

Enable the headset ring mode as Headset or Both in telephone by pressing: Trans-6-2-2

or Trans-6-2-3 to choose the desired option and press Save on the Ericsson-LG keyset.

When using the Addcom headsets with an 8000E handset program TRANS-6-2-1 ONLY
