    1. Foreword

This document is the initial proposal for a light helibasket for the helicopter A109MKII.

The technical proposal has been prepared by taking in to account customer requests and issues from the helicopter

TC Holder, Agusta Westland, after the meeting we had in June 2011 at Cascina Costa facilities with a CPE 119

    representative.

The main issue of this meeting was the need to use structure attachment points normally used for the belly tank for

spray system, and not to use landing gear structure; this is because a fatigue problem encountered on helicopters

    that install the actual helibaskets.

The geometry of the attachment point has been requested to the TC holder and implemented in a 3D CATIA V5

modeling environment, as basis to develop the here-after proposed ideas. Only the lower part of the helicopter has

    been modeled.

All the system is patent pending of Boggi s.r.l.

    2. Technical specifications

The technical and operative requests from the interested subjects, have lead us to find a solution for 3 helibaskets with

different sizes, by using a common attachment system. This means that the helibaskets can be interchangeable by using

the same parts to attach it to the helicopter structure.

    a. Light helibasket

external dimensions 1200 mm length, 575 mm width, 250 mm height

payload : up to 70 kg

    b. Medium helibasket

external dimensions 2400 mm length, 525 mm width, 395 mm height

    payload : up to 90 - 100 kg

    c. Large Helibasket

external dimensions 2400 mm length, 625 mm width, 520 mm height

    payload : up to 90 - 100 kg

The helibaskets are here following illustrated.

The helibasket can be designed to be installed on the left or on the right side of the helicopter. Our suggestion is to use

the right side in order to avoid wake interference with the tail rotor.

We experienced this problem during the certification of the helibasket for the A119 (no MKII).

    4. Light helibasket

The light helibasket, as requested by interested subjects, is shorter than the distance between Agusta suggested

attachment points, so a special structure is needed to attach it to the attachment system.

Our suggestion to interested subjects is to evaluate the possibility to prolong the helibasket to the attachments and avoid

the special structure. The consequent weight increase can be mitigated or eliminated by changing some design details.

In order to allow quick mount of the helibasket, the attachment system include fixed pins in the upper part of the

adapters and quick release pins in the lower part.

Total estimated weight of the system (attachment system + light helibasket ) = 23 kg.

The total weight can be reduced by changing some design details, but this need to be discussed in depth with the

    interested subjects.

    5. Medium helibasket

The preliminary design of the medium helibasket, is here shown.

In order to allow quick mount of the helibasket, the attachment system include fixed pins in the upper part of the

adapters and quick release pins in the lower part. The attachment system is the same used for the small helibasket.

Total estimated weight of the system (attachment system + medium helibasket ) = 35 - 40 kg.

The total weight can be reduced by changing some design details, but this need to be discussed in depth with the

    interested subjects.

    6. Large helibasket

The preliminary design of the large helibasket, is here shown. The large helibasket was designed in addition of the other

in order to allow larger internal volume for skis and snowboards. Furhter development of this helibasket have to issue the

interference with the landing gear in both flight and ground conditions

In order to allow quick mount of the helibasket, the attachment system include fixed pins in the upper part of the

adapters and quick release pins in the lower part. The attachment system is the same used for the small helibasket.

Total estimated weight of the system (attachment system + medium helibasket ) = 45 - 50 kg.

The total weight can be reduced by changing some design details, but this need to be discussed in depth with the
