Staff The Institute has 18 academic workers.

Profile Considering the trends of language learning at higher education institutions, the activities of the Institute are focused especially on languages for specific purposes.

The Institute was awarded the European Language Prize LABEL 2003.

Scientific activities are closely connected with methodology and the areas of teaching languages for specific purposes. The staff of the Institute is actively involved in projects and grants. Their results are being applied in courses in order to improve language instruction (blended learning, e-learning, computer assisted language learning).

The staff ensures translation and interpreting services for the faculty, and provides languages courses for its employees.

Institute of Foreign Languages

The Institute of Foreign Languages provides compulsory and optional language courses within Bachelor’s and Master’s Study Programmes in full as well as combined mode of study at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and for all forms of study at Faculty of Business and Management. It also ensures language instruction for Ph.D. students.

Since the academic year 2005/2006 all students are required to go through English language courses concluded with an exam at a standardized B1 level according to the Common European Framework.

Considering the growing demands on the graduates, students may study other languages at an optional basis (German, Russian, French).

The Institute of Foreign Languages provides other language courses within Lifelong Learning.

Equipment Computer labComputer assisted language learning is an integral part of compulsory courses. It makes full use of modern multimedia software aimed at developing vocabulary and practising pronunciation.

Multimedia classroomsMultimedia classrooms enable modern methodology with the use of up-to-date technology (data projection, DVD, web-based learning).
