Our Mission As part o the Bin Hayl Group, our ultimate mission is to

be the best provider o the highest quality pipe systems inthe Sultanate o Oman and in our international markets.

Our Vision Our vision o unrelenting quality and prosperous growth

can only be realized when our clients are ully satised, our employees are given the opportunity to succeed andour partners and shareholders are beneting rom theirtrust in us.

ECHNO Pipe System is an advanced system o pipes and ttings manu acturedrom polypropylene random copolymer (PPR). Its characteristics make it one o

the most technologically advanced systems available. Te most specia l eature oECHNO Pipe System is the assembly technique (Termal Fusion).

Te assembly method, availability in all size ranges, versatility o the system, qualityo the products and the excellent chemical and physical properties make ECHNOPipe System the most ideal piping system in PPR lines.

Polypropylene or polypropene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer and is non-hazardousto human health. It is manu actured in the chemical industry by polymerizationwhich is a process o combining many small molecules known as monomers into acovalently bonded chain or network o repeated polypropylene monomer as seen inthe below diagram:

    Pressure Loss

Te production process o echno Pipe Systems and melting property o the rawmaterials make the inner sur aces extremely smooth. Tis reduces the effect onpressure loss (compared to metal systems). So we can consider that the pressure dropis negligible in most o the above mentioned applications.

    Example:Diameter o pipe = 40mm, Flow rate l/h = 3000 l/h,Ten rom the graph pressure loss is = 100mm H2O/mTe speed is = 1.6 m/s

    Termo Fusion Welding

Te effectiveness and durability o the system depends in large part on the usionwelding techniques used in installing the pipes to ensure tightness and stability o itsconnections. Fusion only takes a ew seconds.

Te pipe is rst cut according to the desired length. It is important that the pipes arecut using tools which ensure a clean cut that is perpendicular to the axis. Te pipe

and tting are then heated with a welding machine at 260 C (+/- 10 C) and joinedwithout twisting. Heating and welding o pipes and ttings should not be interrupted.

Preparation for Filling esting ECHNO System

Afer installing ECHNO piping system, it is necessary to go through a pressuretest. Unlike metal pipes, ECHNO like all other plastic pipe systems has to ollowdifferent pressure test procedure owing to their mechanical properties o expansionwhen subject to pressure, temperature difference and coefficient o expansion.A change in temperature corresponds to a pressure change o 0.5-1.0 bar. Tus, thetest medium shall as ar as possible, be kept at a constant temperature throughoutthe test.est Procedure (According to DIN 1988 Part 2 or BS 6700: 1977)

For pressure testing, pressure gauges that allow reading of changes in pressure of

0.1 Bar shall be used tted at the lowest possible point in the system.Pressure testing for leakages must be conducted while pipe works are still accessible

and be ore concealing or plastering.Finished pipe work must be completely tted with ltered water and vented.

ProcedureAfer pipe work is lled with water and completely vented to release air locks in thesystem, testing can begin:A. est pressure = (permissible working pressure + 5 bars ) shall be produced 2times within 30 minutes at 10 minute intervals.Note restore by hand pump to required test pressure afer the 10 minute interval i the

pressure drops I leakage is detected recti y the leakage and repeat procedure

    B. I no leakage is detected, or the next 30 minutes, check i the pressure has droppedby more than 0.6 bars and i there is any visible signs o leakage.Note I leakage is detected recti y the leakage area and repeat procedure

I pressure drops by more than 0 6 bars within this period leakage must have occurred

    detect and recti y

    C. I pressure drop is within 0.6 bars and no leakage detected, continue the testwithout restoring the required pressure or the next 120 minutes. During this time, itshall be checked i the pressure drop is more than 0.2 bars and no leakage is detected.Note I leakage is detected recti y the leakage area and repeat procedure

I pressure drops by more than 0 2 bars within this period leakage must have occurred

Detect recti y and repeat procedure

    D. Pressure test is success ul when the entire above are met and the readings shouldbe recorded.

    8. Expansion & StirrupsClamp Spacing in ECHNO PPRC PipesFixed clamp spacings at horizontally installed ECHNO Pipes can be ounded by thehelp o the table below. Clamp spacings in vertical installation should be the samewith those in horizontal installation.Distance between support clamps (both xed and slide) should be carefully

maintained as per the table below:

Each material which undergoes a variation in temperature over time reacts bymodi ying its size to varying degrees. Tis phenomenon is called thermal expansion;the body will increase in volume when the temperature rises or contract whenit decrees. Termal expansion may be linear, supercial or cubic, depending onwhether it mainly affects one, two or all three o the bodys dimensions. In the case o pipelines, the expansion is mainly linear, since their length ar exceedstheir other dimensions. Te parameter which provides guidance on a pipes tendencyto expand or contract in case o a temperature variation is its linear expansion

coefficient.Tere ore, when designing and constructing installations it is essential to know the value o this coefficient, in order to calculate the amount o expansion/contractionand adopt the necessary measures to ensure that this will not damage the piping.

Expansion contraction in ECHNO system pipesFirst, it is important to distinguish between the two alternative installation modes:- Installation under concrete- Installation externally (visible)

Te effect o the expansion is negligible, since the material is able to absorb it itseland no special measures are required. On the other hand, when pipes are installedoutside the walls and exposed to considerable variations in temperature, it isessential to allow or thermal expansion by proceeding as described. Te expansiono ECHNO Pipe Systems, in all its application and usage, never causes problems.

    35/46

    33

Calculating the ExpansionVariation can be calculated using the ollowing ormula:L = x L x Where:L: variation in pipe length (mm), : Linear Expansion coefficient o Material ( =0.15 mm/m C) o ECHNO PPR, L: length o the pipe section ree to expand (m), : difference in temperature between the time o installation and the operatingtemperature (C).

    EXAMPLE 1:

    ExpansionL= 6m, m=25 C ( Installation emperature), max= 95 C (Maximum

    installation emperature),From which we obtain:L = 0.15 x 6 x 70 = 63mm ( ECHNO Pipe)In this case, the pipe expands, increasing its initial length.

    EXAMPLE 2:

    ContractionL= 6m, m=25 C ( Installation emperature), max= 5 C (Minimuminstallation emperature),From which we obtain: L = 0.15 x 6 x (-20) = -18mm ( ECHNO Pipe)In this case, the pipe contracts, reducing its initial length

Installation echnique When Termal Expansion is PresentOnce the variation in length o the piping has been calculated, the necessarymeasures must be taken to ensure that its effects do not cause problems or the

piping itsel . Te ollowing procedures may be used:- Provision o xed and sliding points;- Compensation with expansion arms.

Tis echnique will secure the piping to the masonry structure o the building, totally orpartially preventing the movements generated by thermal expansion.

    Fixed Points & Sliding Points

Fixed points prevent pipes rom moving, and so must provide a rigid connection between theinstallation on the one hand and the masonry on the other. Tey are constructed using rigidcollars, consisting o a gripping element, generally metallic, lined with rubber on the pipe side, anda component or xing to the wall on the other side. Naturally the part in rubber (or in anothersimilar material) is intended to prevent dangerous cutting o the sur ace o the pipe.

Fixed points must normally be positioned where the system changes direction (branches, elbows, etc.) to ensure that the expansion orces are not discharged in these points. In al cases, a xedsupporting point should always be provided next to any joint in the pipe created using a couplingor any other welded tting. to expand, and thus reduce the relative L value.

    EXAMPLE OF A FIXED POIN

Sliding PointsSliding points allow the pipe to move axially in both directions. Tey there ore haveto be positioned well away rom joints made using pipe ttings, on a ree length othe pipes sur ace. Te collar which orms the sliding support point must be absolutely

ree rom parts which might damage the outside sur ace o the pipe.

    cat-sep.indd 33 9/30/12 1:28 PM

  • 8/14/2019 TECHNO_CATALOGUE.pdf

    36/46

Sliding points also provide support and ensure (provided enough o them areinstalled) that the pipe remains straight in spite o thermal stresses.

    Te Stirrup Distances

o allow correct installation o ECHNO system pipes on the outside o walls, theollowing is the graph used to calculate the stirrup distances between points. Tese

distances remain the same regardless o whether the pipes are horizontal or vertical.

    Compensating Using Expansion Arms

With this technique, the pipe run is designed to allow any expansion to be absorbed.o ensure this, expansion arms, where the pipe is able to expand in case o thermal

stresses, are installed at points where the direction changes (elbows, tees, etc.).Te specications o these expansion arms are calculated using the ollowing ormula:

    Ls = K (d. L)Where: LS = expansion arm length (mm), F= constant o the material ( or PP = 30),D = pipe outside diameter (mm) L = pipe length variation (mm)

    EXAMPLE

    o calculate the expansion arm length or a section o ECHNO pipe where: d= 50mm (outside diameter); L= 6 m; = 55CFrom the previous calculations have given a L = 63mm Tere ore:LS= 30 (50 x 63) = 1683.7mmLower thermal expansion coefficient means that the increase in pipe length isreduced.

Example of Expansion Arms:Calculating expansion arm length using graphs

( ECHNO System)Figure: shows temperature difference versuspipe expansion. Since ECHNO pipes can belaid in wal ls or under oors in direct contactwith lime, gypsum or cement.

During handling, storage and use on site, bundles o pipes or individual lengths mustbe protected against excessive external stresses, such as shaking, knocks, hammerblows, etc. Tis is even more important as the ambient temperature alls, since atlow temperatures the material is more rigid and has a less elastic response to outsidestresses. ECHNO Pipe must never be stored where it is subject to direct sun light,Ultra Violet causes ageing in the material. Any contact with sharp edged bodies (suchas brick shards) causes cuts on the outside o the pipe which might lead to breakageslater. Care must be taken to ensure that this does not occur during storage andinstallation, and any scratched or scored pipes must not be used.

    (Chilled water, conditioningre rigerants)

echno can be normally used in conditioning plants as it iscompatible with the ant reezing media commonly employedin the thermo hydraulic eld. In case o transport o lowtemperature uids, a suitable insulation has to be applied inorder to prevent ormation o condensate. Using the insulatingmaterial with heat conductivity 0,038 W/mK under theconditions specied in the table here below, no ormation ocondensate will occur.

    9. Handling Pipes

ECHNO pipes and ttings and classied under the re classication (NORMALYINFLAMMABLE) according to DIN 4102, in case o re outbreak o temperature >80 C, under ideal conditions, with sufficient oxygen only carbon dioxide and water vapors are produced as the raw material o polypropylene Random CO-Polymer ishydrocarbon chain. oxic umes or dioxin will not be emitted (C4H4O2).

All kinds o plumbing materials should be covered rom sun light and used in indoorapplications, or outdoor application we recommend use o ECHNO COA EDPipes which have proved to bear the sunlight radiation and offer good protection.Depending on the availability o air, water, oxygen and other oxidizing agents, theexternal layer o LDPE may be effected rom direct exposure afer long time but thatis not true or ECHNO Pipe System.
