2 What is technological singularity?

The technological singularity is the hypothetical advent of artificial intelligence. such a computer, computer network, or robot would theoretically be capable of recursive self improvement ,or of designing and building computers or robots better then itself.

3 Is it possible?

No proof of impossibility!

Race for intellectual supremacy

Continuous advances in technology

Moore’s Law

Analogous to evolution

• Evolution of mankind – 5 million years – threefold

• Computing power – 50 years – million-fold

(price performance, capacity, bandwidth) every

7 Moore’s Law

The observation made in 1965 by Gordon Moore , co founder of intel ,that the number of transistor per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since integrated circuit was invented . Moore predicted that trend would continue for the foreseeable future.

15 How do we build this super intelligence? We develop a device in which the power of

human brains can be amplified We construct an artificial intelligence (AI) with a

higher ability of thinking than our own.

16 Consequences

The machine becomes evil and kills us all; populates the Earth with robots

The machine is friendly and we flourish as a human society alongside robots

17 How do we stop and prevent the AI from becoming deadly?

Keeping the superintelligence in a simulated box, separate from reality and internet access,

Programming the intelligence with the intentions of not harming us,

Programming the intelligence to maximize human pleasure and satisfaction,

Teaching the superintelligence moral values with machine learning,

Adding friendliness to the AI design.

18 Friendly AI is the key!

Institutes that are developing a friendly AI include: the Singularity Institute (in San Francisco, California) the Future of Humanity Institute (in Oxford, U.K.)

20 Conclusion

• Singularity, if feasible, is bound to happen sooner or later.

• Singularity: Next step in human evolution?

• All said, is it possible for us to comment on singularity?

Are we smart enough?
