Executive Summary
● In healthcare, technology is progressively playing a role in almost all processes, from patient registration to data monitoring, from lab tests to self-care tools. Electronic Health Records is a technological advancement in healthcare that has emerged over the last ten years.
● Data is what medical staff use to make both critical and non-critical decisions, centralizing the information will improve the outcomes of the consistency of medical care delivered.
● This case study will examine and evaluate one of the technology management challenges that Parkview Healthcare experienced in 2010. By
● Evaluating existing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
● Best solution would be to provide the quality of healthcare wanted to be deliver.

Parkview Health System is a local nonprofit health system enjoys income and property tax exemptions.
Parkview controls 8 hospitals with 990 beds.
Provides a wide range of health services to residents of Northeastern Indiana, northwest Ohio and southern Michigan.
Considered as one of the region’s largest employers, with more than 8,800 employees and 340 physicians.
Annual Revenues of Parkview healthcare system is about $1.1 billion with Patient Encounters 1,675,786
Parkview Foundations are comprised of five interdependent foundations that are governed by volunteer boards of directors.

Challenges / Problems
● Inefficiencies in use of the existing EMR GE Centricity that was implemented back in 2000
● Lack of system functionality to support new government regulations and reimbursement programs
● Decentralized systems and multiple manual process being on paper left the story of care fractured.
● Parkview was dealing with legal issues such as taking the healthcare industry to court.
