Ex-situ Soil Treatment Process – Morgan Construction and Environmental Ltd. (MCEL) has developed the Active Release Vapour Extraction (ARVE TM ) ex-situ soil remediation technology for the primary purpose of onsite treatment of soils containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The ARVE TM technology, also known as shredding without screens, is a 4-step soil pulverisation process that physically enhances soil volatilization within a treatment chamber fitted with an engineered vapour capture system which collects and treats released VOCs formerly trapped within the soils matrix prior to releasing the treated air to atmosphere. The ARVE TM technology is a two stage remediation process. Stage 1 is a mechanical process which uses a patented shredding unit designed specifically to shred, screen and aer- ate soils and organic matter. Materials are quickly churned and aerated on a shredder belt. This includes soils that have higher moisture and/or clay content. The process (seen right) results in the thorough mixing, blending and aeration of soils while simultaneously removing unwanted debris by way of a side discharge conveyor. Material sizing is easily controlled and changed with a manually operated fence gate. Stage 2 of the remediation process is the extraction of the VOCs from the treatment chamber using an engineered vapour capture system. This system collects VOCs within the treatment chamber and processes the VOCs by stripping out the organic compounds prior to releasing the treated air to atmosphere. The final product is a light low density; finely processed material that once remediated is suitable for resale or immediate use as backfill material. All processing takes place on site, eliminating costly trucking and related expenses. Ex-situ Soil Treatment Process – Morgan Construction and Environmental Ltd. (MCEL) has developed the Active Release Vapour Extraction (ARVETM) ex-situ soil remediation technology for the primary purpose of onsite treatment of soils containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The ARVETM technology, also known as shredding without screens, is a 4-step soil pulverisation process that physically enhances soil volatilization within a treatment chamber fitted with an engineered vapour capture system which collects and treats released VOCs formerly trapped within the soils matrix prior to releasing the treated air to atmosphere.

The ARVETM technology is a two stage remediation process. Stage 1 is a mechanical process which uses a patented shredding unit designed specifically to shred, screen and aer-ate soils and organic matter.

The general ARVETM soil treatment process is described below:

The advantages of utilizing this ARVETM Technology are:

1. Subject materials containing VOC are loaded into the shredder-mixer hopper.

2. These materials are fed from the shredder-mixer hopper into the unit’s treatment chamber.

3. Inside the treatment chamber a high speed metal cleated belt pulverizes and aerates the material while feeding it forward to the sweep fence.

4. While the materials are being pulverised and broken down within the treatment chamber VOC are released. These VOC are safely collected using an engineered vapour extraction and scrubbing system. The collected volatiles are processed within the scrubbing system to separate and filter out the VOC from the ambient air. The treated air is then released to atmosphere.

5. The unit’s adjustable sweep disperses the end product resulting in a finely processed material while over-sized lumps continuously fall back for further processing.

6. Non-shreddable material and debris are automatically separated into a trash stream and discharged.

> Promotes accelerated bio-remediation activity,

> Automatically separates non-shredable materials,

> Breaks down lumps and oversize materials into small uniform particles,

> Aerates and removes VOC’s from the soil media and captures the VOC’s within a contained, engineered scrubbing system for controlled disposal prior to air discharge,

> Effective in minimizing or reducing treatment occurrences,

> Easy transportation and set-up of Unit onsite; and

> Onsite treatment process that eliminates costly trucking and related expenses associated with landfilling.
