Feedback from Away day

Page 11: Technology Update - RUGIT · »New model based around groups of services –“clusters” » Closer to industry standard practices » Clearer accountability & focus » More able

1. Data egress

› Zeroed for Amazon & Microsoft* (*up to 15% of cost and they work differently)

2. ExpressRoute

› Connection from Janet to Microsoft being commissioned

› First member pilots starting

› Still waiting for pricing package from Microsoft, should have good discounts

3. Premier Support

› Despite very clear messages, Microsoft have not listened, continued pressure from Russell Group would be useful.

4. iPass – good commercial offer (80% off list), but lack of firm commitment from the sector, leaves a financial risk.

Updates on progress

Cost of Services Model (CoSM) summary

A tool to support management decision making by giving a holistic view of organisational costs

The CoSM is based on the service catalogue

The CoSM uses estimates. The model is based on assumptions, which can be revised

The model always balances back to the Approved Budget

Model forms the basis for the service review process. It can also provide comparators for new service costing

Approved budget

Map cost centres to service catalogue

Meet with key staff to identify cost granularity asignments such as indrect costs

Map projects, R&D and other activities

Calculate support costs

Major Assumptions in the CoSM

All services and projects delivered by Jisc incur costs including support

Costs assigned on cash budget basis. All income and expenditure flows through the budgeted financial year
