Family,

I’m bursting with

expectations as I pen

this note to you – my

TeenVybe family, and it

is with the same Vybe

that I, along with my

dynamic team of hard

working Teenagers present to you the inaugural issue of TeenVybe

eZine.

As you may know by now, TeenVybe is a bi-weekly online publication,

dedicated to keeping Jamaican Teens abreast of current events, news and

happenings which are directly relevant to them. However, as the Founder

and Editor in Chief, I will ensure that TeenVybe not only maintains its

vision, but becomes a catalyst of change for Teens…PERIOD.

I sincerely hope that you fully enjoy this first issue, and as always, we

welcome your comments and suggestions. More and more interesting

and exciting features will be added as we go along, as well as more ways

for you to interact and win prizes.

We are young, fun and vibrant and as such we present you with a

publication of the same nature.

TeenVybe is unequivocally and intentionally a magazine designed

exclusively for Teens, and we do not apologize for that.

along with other young artistes is the future of the music industry.

Let’s be real, Kartel and Mavado may or may not relevant when

Out of idleness and underestimation of the

musical business, Pencil ventured on his musical

journey in January 2010.

He spent sleepless nights promoting his music

on Facebook to gather votes to win the Mic

Check Competition which is a clear indication of

his determination.

A female fan clearly stated his lyrics are as

orgasmic as his eyes.

His songs include “Push It In”, “Blood

Everywhere”, “Kill Dem”, “Marijuana” and

also a duet with another young artiste -

‘Chargii’ called “Love Yuh”.

just decided to take it up and

music?

Pencil: ‚Bounty Killa, dun know,

me rate Aidonia, Beenie Man - how

the man switch from the old time to

the new time and dem ting deh. And

me rate Masicka as an upcoming

artist, like him versatility. And you

know we just listen to all different

types of music and try and draw

things and try to bring a different

vybe to the music. – Which is right!‛

TV: You plan to stick to dancehall

alone?

Pencil: ‚Well, dancehall me say!

But I’ll be trying other genres

Check Competition, you plan to

enter any other competitions?

more, just moving forward from

TV: What’s the best moment in your

career so far?

Mic Check Competition and big up

to ODH (Our Dancehall) for the

opportunity and the publicity‛

TV: How hard was it to promote

yourself during the Mic Check

Competition?

Pencil: ‚Jah know star, me neva

sleep fi the last two days of the

competition. Me and Xavier sit

down round the laptop the whole

time.

TV: So weren’t you shocked that so

many people voted for you?

Pencil: ‚Of course! I had 5,600

votes for the last round, we struggle

to get 1,600 inna the second to last

round. Frighten that a ten

thousand people weh know bout the

two of us (Pencil & Alkaline) so that

is enough, yuh zeet? And a just

forward from here so. Right yah

now me just want go inna the studio

and record some nice tune and try

Home Made Beauty Tips Everyone always worries about the cost of certain beauty products that honestly can be found right at home.

Need a scrub or a really

good exfoliating wash?

Believe it or not, baking

soda is the perfect thing to

use. Just pour a little more

than a dime sized amount

in your hand, wet your face,

scrub then rinse. It’ll be as

smooth as a baby’s bottom.

Want those lips extra soft? A

mixture of sugar and olive oil will

do the trick. Mix until you get that

right paste you’re looking for and

then scrub your lips with your

toothbrush. Leave on for about a

min or two then wipe off with a

damp cloth. Re-do this for a week

and results are amazing!

Ever heard of the zit trick? Toothpaste on

pimples? Actually do work! Dab a small

amount on that zit and leave to dry overnight.

It’ll either be less noticeable or completely

dried up!

Consequences of Smoking

Smoking?

SURE. No problem, it’s one of the many

social formalities, right?

WRONG. Smoking isn’t a social

formality, and it isn’t good for you. You

probably know the consequences or

hear them all the time but be that what

it may or may not be, I CHALLENGE

you to read the consequences then

decide for yourself.

FACTS:

One cigarette can keep the heart from using oxygen properly for up

to 24 hours.

Cigarette Smoking causes more

deaths than AIDS, automobile

accidents, suicide, fires, homicides

or drug overdoses combined.

Each cigarette you smoke removes

11 minutes of your lifespan.

Also includes a high risk of

obtaining lung cancer and heart

disease.

You might be a believer and say.

I’m not smoking a cigarette;

however smoking marijuana is just

as bad.

Marijuana hangs around in your

system for as long as 24 hours

after smoking.

PS. Because Marijuana is said to contain less dangerous hazards

doesn’t mean it is best. This phrase causes people to inhale

cannabis longer, enabling it to stay in your system longer and

causing more damage than would as normal.

We all like to party, so it’s kind of understandable why the guys

you are about to read about were chosen to grace the cover of

our inaugural issue, because they also like to party.

TeenVybe sat down recently with this group, some of the youngest

and best party promoters in the game at the moment; here is what

they had to say.

TV: Who are the PardiiKidz?

“ Hasani: *laughs* we’re a group of friends that love having fun.

Like anywhere we go, we make the best out of anything – Be

spontaneous, a party is what you make it you know ? So you have

your own fun and by you having your own fun people around you

have fun and I guess that’s what we’re known for, having fun.”

TV: When was PardiiKidz established ? “January 29th, 2010”

TV: Why was PardiiKidz established ?

Tahj: “Well, we saw the need for something new, some new parties

out there. Thought that basically we could you know, draw a better

crowd or have fun with our group of friends and we just really

wanted to do that. Hasani: We wanted to have something of our own

that we could build basically and control and have a sense of power

and responsibility with. Keanu: *laughs* I think PardiiKidz was

established is because you have two yute that was wild (Joshua &

Tahj) and them approach them brethren basically and say “Yo, we

want keep a party and we like how you move and how you move

and because everybody was fun-loving and everybody just say “Yo,

boom ! PardiiKidz – but is just two man have a likkle idea quick and

share with with everyone else and BOOM ! U z’mi ?”

TV: What motivates you guys ?

Hasani: Girls *dies with laughter* and money and popularity. *laughs

some more* A joke. We don’t run down that stuff. But it’s just

basically the fun of us as friends being together.

TV: What’s the difference between any PardiiKidz event and other

events ?

Alex: “We try to

bring something

new every time and

keep it hype” Tahj:

“Go to one and you

will see ! *laughs*”

Hasani: Our events

are different

because other

promoters rely on

the people to enjoy

themselves, where

as we not only keep

the party but

interact with people

in the party to ensure that it starts and it stays on a certain level.

Tahj: And also, when we started keeping parties, it was to have fun

you know. It wasn’t really for any monetary incentive at all. So most

people now just keep parties because they think it’s easy and they

want some money and that’s not really what we’re about – we’re

about having fun ! the money is really just a plus – a bonus !

TV: Do you guys see yourselves doing event coordination in the

future – (your adult lives) or is this just a filler for your teenage

years?

TEENVYBE

Tahj: Then nuh muss ! *laughs* Hasani: Definitely in the future

because we have our links set now and we know the formula to

create a successful event and we all are interested in that because

we know what it takes and we’re willing to do it.

TV: Is there a Leader or Founder of PardiiKidz ?

Hasani: “We don’t have a leader but like all of us contribute. As we

mentioned before the first two were Tahj and Ardito and really now

it’s just based on the input of each member. No one is above

anyone really. If there was a leader though, it would have to be

Joshua, it would definitely be Joshua because he does a majority of

the work when it comes to certain things.”

TV: What are your parents opinions of PardiiKidz and are they

supportive ?

Keanu: Our parents are very supportive ! Our parents are very

supportive ! Hasani: Our parents are supportive and they love the

PardiiKidz concept and they see the value in it and they themselves

would love to steer it in a different path based on our age, but

they’re still involved and they like being involved and they are

supportive.”

TV: Who’s the shyest in

the group ?

Tahj: “No one is really shy,

but Alex wudda haffi be the

shyest.

TV: Were you guys all

friends prior to the

establishment of PardiiKidz

?

TEENVYBE

Tahj: “Yea, yea, yea ! – we probably weren’t as close but we were

all friends and we all rated each other”

TV: Who’s the trouble maker in the group ?

Keanu: “Every PardiiKidz man haffi be a troublemaker or you can’t

be a PardiiKid *laughs*” Tahj: I would say Keanu *lauhs*

TV: How do you guys feel about the promoting/event coordination

industry on a whole ? AND also how do you guys feel about its rapid

overpopulation in recent times ?

Hasani: “You see the industry now, I kinda understand it and like I

rate how certain promoters deal with their things – they have their

formula and it works for them so they do it and what I’ve been

noticing is that promoters try to bring new things so they always

bring it up a level. I’m liking the industry, I can’t wait till I’m eighteen

or whatever so that I can start getting more sponsors because like

now at this age it’s more difficult when your competing with a man

that’s like forty or whatever. When you’re working with more people

you get more opportunities. I mean, we have opportunities now but

I’m just saying that when we’re older we’d have more.” Tahj: “I think

with more competition it kinda stirs up creativity, so in a way this

recent overpopulation is probably better. I mean although, most of

these new promoters do it for the hype and for the money, we don’t

really do it for that – we initially did it for the fun.”

TV: In your opinion – what has been the absolute best PardiiKidz

event so far in terms of attendance, vybe, revenue, etc.?

Tahj: “Yooow, Abstract TUN UP !!! it was on April 10, 2010 !”

Hasani: “Yea, Abstract. We loved the vybe there. Best vibes ! it was

Abstract Illegal. The thing with Abstract was that after the let down

with the venue issues that we had for us to turn around in 3 days

and have a great event, it was just different.” Keanu: “It made us feel

like she yow we can do something

from this point u z’mi ?” Tahj:

“That was the first time we

realized that we had something

new and something different from

the other fool fool people out

there *laughs*” Hasani: “It was

just like non-stop dancing, it was

dancing from you came in till

whenever we locked off the

music. It was really a great time

for us, we were really happy with

how it turned out.”

TV: What audience do you guys

generally cater to ?

Keanu: “Yow ! we cater to

anybody who wah come a the party dem ! *laughs* except drunk

kiddies.” Hasani: “Basically our target audience is just our age and

up because we’re mostly around friends and friend’s friends. We

really just want our party to be hype.” Tahj: “At the end of the day we

still rate the younger crowd because that crowd is fun and they have

fun by themselves and you will see older crowds not having fun and

sit down when them hear music and be like “Yo, this party lame” and

the younger crowd is dancing and having fun, so we respect that.

We respect that about them but we don’t necessarily promote

towards them – we stick to our age and older.” Hasani: “The other

challenge is everybody knows that girls like older boys and

PardiiKidz is a group of eight guys and then younger girls will like us

and younger guys want those girls, so the guys and the girls that are

younger obviously gonna come.”

TV: What was PardiiKidz first ever event ? How was it ? What was

learnt from it ?

Hasani: “Abstract was our first event and we realized that you need

to confirm with the owner of the venue what exactly is being kept

there and have some written permission.” Tahj: “The moral of it is to

be more professional about some things and not just take a man’s

word for it because is not everyone you can trust. And at the end of

the day, you need to deal with the thing more professional and

businesslike and although friendship goes this far *hand gesture*

business has to be in a different category basically.”

TV: Anything for us to look forward to in the near future from

PardiiKidz ?

Hasani: “End of summer, before you guys go back to school …. a

BIG event ! like last year, you’re gonna have something to talk about

– Definitely !” Tahj: “And also Christmas time we’re gonna have a

HUGE event ! BIGGEST

thing we ever do !”

Hasani: “Everybody and

dem madda !” Keanu:

“And dem granny,

everybody ! *dies with

laughter*”

TV: Who’s the most

spontaneous in the group

?

*awkward silence*

Keanu: “Yow PardiiKidz

seh “Be Spontaneous”

enuh.” Tahj: “All a we !!!”

TV: What do you guys think of TeenVybe ?

Tahj: “Yoooww, di ting shot !!! TeenVybe !” Hasani: Yea, like you

guys just come up on Facebook and I’m like “Yo what is this?” and

then the next day I see you guys come up with like a thousand likes

and pass nuff people group in like a day ! You guys coming out big”

Tahj: “The idea ….. shot !” Hasani: “And we love how you guys are

pushing it and not being slow and taking it too easy-going or

whatever. You guys just get out there, link who you want to link for

the magazine and get your things done” Tahj: “Yea, a lot of people

out there trying new things and have ideas and just don’t have the

urge or the work ethic to get it done you know. And the fact that you

guys actually making a move is impressive. Is the same thing with

parties, everyday you hear somebody “Oh, I wanna keep a party, I

wah keep a party” and at the end of the day, most of them don’t

keep it. So we rate TeenVybe !”

TV: There is a HUGE misconception of the event planning &

execution industry – that it’s easy and all fun. What do you guys

have to say about this ?

Tahj: “It’s not ! – it is fun, but it isn’t easy.” Hasani: It’s fun in the end,

but it’s not easy, because you could be like “Oh this is in order, that

is in order” and you see like all the night before the party you hear

she something was double-booked and a next company get it and

then the morning you have to going around trying to find something

else” Tahj: “Anything can happen at any time. You have to have a

back up ! You have to be ready to handle the pressure because

there’s so many things to pull together, especially when you’re doing

it by yourself. PRESSURE !” Keanu: “At this age, not being an adult

by law, you have to resly on your parents to some extent but you

have to make sure she you still running the show and make sure

you know everything that you doing basically.” Alex: “You have to be

prepared, fully prepared and ready for anything !”

TV: Is there a certain promoter or event coordination group that

PardiiKidz look up to or are inspired by ?

Tahj: “Well Vybz Kartel run the place eno *laughs*” No, no, no,

there’s no one actually. At all – when we started out we never

looked up to anybody at all. Alex: “When we started out people were

saying we wouldn’t like work out and it was a bad idea to go in the

party business” Hasani: “There’s nobody we looked up to because

we do our thing differently.” Tahj: “We’re not in their league,

because our thing is different. It’s not like we have a little ‘Illusive’

and when we’re their age we hope to have an ‘Illusive’. It’s a

different party realm. *laughs*” Hasani: “At the same time though,

we have respect for Emery Meghoo and Dane Chin – those two

promoters definitely.” Keanu: “Big up the Dream Weekend team to

caz dem man deh have dem ting sort out as promoters. But we

always haffi respect di man dem weh deh deh from start like Emery

and Dane Chin” Hasani: “Also we haffi big up Lawless”

Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant you sluggard: consider her ways and be wise. Which, having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest.

Proverbs 30:25

The ants are a people, not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer.

There are some really interesting facts about ants; many of which we could incorporate in our own lives as Teens to bring us better results on a daily basis.

Take this fact about the ants for example: The abdomen of the ant contains two stomachs, one which stores food for itself and the other in which it stores food to share with other ants.

I’m not at all suggesting that we somehow grow an extra stomach, but I am suggesting that when we have more than enough we can store food to share with others who are in need.

Anyway, here’s the interesting fact about the ants that comes to life in our Bible verses mentioned above that we should focus on: Though the ants all have different roles to play; (like that of some of the worker ants; who take the garbage from the nest and take it outside to a special dump, or the queen ant; who lay the eggs, or even like the soldier ants; who protect

the queen and attack enemy colonies) none of them is overseer or ruler who stands over them demanding that they do what they are supposed to do; as Proverbs 6: 7 implies, yet they are wise enough to function in their respective capacities and gather their food during summer, when the conditions are favourable, so that after summer they may gather their harvest.

As the 2011 – 2012 school year approaches and unfortunately summer comes to a screeching hault; let’s take a page from the rule book of the ants this summer and begin to prepare ourselves for the upcoming school year with an attitude of the mind to do what’s expected of us without our Parents or Teachers standing over us and making demands. Therefore as we proceed through the upcoming school year we’ll harvest/reap our desired results at home and in school.

I certify that as you begin to do what’s expected of you; one day you’ll look up and your Parents and Teachers will not be breathing over your shoulders.

I promise that this coming school year, I will do what’s expected of me in order to achieve my desired results at home and at school.

The Nicki Minaj DISSAPOINTMENT!

KAY, Sumfest came and went. R. Kelly didn’t show, and Coco Tea came saw and conquered, but so did Nicki, the only problem was, she did

what all international acts seem to do when they come to Jamaica, act as if they are on vacation and give us a tatse of her vacation swag and wardrobe. What am I talking about? There dress code. None of these international acts in recent years seem to have made any real effort in that department, when compared to there other appearances, its all glitz and glam – but still we pay top dollar like everybody else. This is nothing new, because they have been doing it for years, with the most recent before Nicki being Usher and Chris Brown, but forget them, let’s

Perhaps it’s the heat of the season that prompts our desire to ‘lighten up’ our wardrobe or the feeling of embracing a more girly, feminine aesthetic that summer tends to bring. Whatever the reason, around this time, floral prints make a huge splash on the fashion scene, and once again, emerge as a major fashion trend. There are several things that one must account for when deciding to wear floral. What size floral print do you like? This might depend on the type

of girl you are. If you’re uber girly and into the really feminine, ‘girl next door’ kind of look, then small or what is known as the “ditsy” floral print may be your style. Small floral prints have long been able to give off that dainty, feminine, classic look. While tiny floral will never go out of style, this year a more contemporary take on the floral trend has emerged. This is where mid-range floral comes in. If you’re a more edgy girl then these large, statement-making floral prints are probably more your style. Mid-range floral is very popular in dresses, tights, shorts and skirts this year, for those who dare to be bold!

It is important to note that while floral is, for the most part, a pattern that suits almost any body type and that can be morphed to compliment a wide array of styles, from girly to edgy, or emo to chic, there are a few fundamental do’s and don’ts that one must bear in mind.

DO Let your print do the talking

We all know those girls who feel as though in order to look fashionable, they must throw on every possible accessory they can think of. Well ladies, throw out those huge bangles and the oversized earrings, because when wearing floral, less is DEFINITELY more. Floral print is already a very bold & eye-catching pattern on its own. There’s no need to over-accessorise. Make-up and jewelry should be minimal. Be tasteful. Don’t overcrowd your body!

DO Pair floral prints with neutral colours

As I mentioned earlier, floral looks best when it is used as the focal point of the outfit. Therefore, it’s inevitable that floral patterns would look effortlessly chic when paired with neutral colours. Nudes, chocolate browns and of course black are the PERECT colours to be paired with floral. These colours are mostly seen in belts, heels, jackets, etc., as long as they don’t draw attention from the floral pattern.

DO Stay true to YOU

Many girls think that if they choose to wear floral, they must be okay with looking girly. A common misconception of this pattern is that it is only for extremely feminine girls. Well, that’s totally inaccurate. Floral print is actually quite versatile. For those who yearn for the more subtle ‘girl next door’ look, pastel florals are the way to go. I’m talking about light pinks, lilac, blue and even floral prints that include a lot of white. However, for the more edgy & bold, ‘look at me’ style, it is important to shy away from the more dainty pastel florals, and embrace larger floral prints in darker colours, like red, green, purple and of course, black. The trick to getting that edgier “Vybe” with such a girly pattern is to pair a feminine floral print with tougher accessories. This will create an interesting union of femininity and ruggedness. Think of a floral print dress with black leggings or even a black leather biker jacket. (Rihanna is known for rocking this style)

DO Use Floral to Accessorise

Floral patterns can also be used to adorn a simple, dull outfit and make it look fabulous! A simple t-shirt and jeans can be spruced up by throwing on a floral scarf or a pair of floral sunglasses, which are ever-so-popular this season. The aim is to never touch the streets without looking your best, and floral accessories definitely provide a quick and easy way to ensure your outfit never looks drab. The pattern can be used with both casual and dressy outfits. Wearing a chic pair of floral print heels can add an unexpected pop of colour to that simple LBD (Little Black Dress) that every girl should have in their closet, for a convenient, inexpensive last minute outfit.
