Message From Our President…

Jackie Poloski

Christmas is over and the long month of Januarybegins. After weeks of preparation, the specialcooking is done and eaten, the months of bakingis devoured, the carefully wrapped gifts rippedopen and hopefully enjoyed. And life is gettingback to normal, whatever normal is.

I had a great Christmas with my family, my kidsand their kids with their girlfriends/boyfriends. Wetraditionally have our big get together onChristmas Eve at my daughters in Matlock, withfireworks, a “steal the gift game”. So much fun! Then I enjoy Christmas morning at my otherdaughters.

I hope you enjoyed gatherings big or small withyour family and friends.

December saw some activities take a break for afew weeks, like floor curling, the art group, TexasHold-em and others. But all will be starting upagain this month.

We are so lucky to have all the activities at ourCentre to keep us active and connected duringthe long winter months and through the year.

Thought for the Month:

Fill your life with adventures, not things.Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.

I want to wish the Board and Members,a healthy & happy New Year.

May you enjoy the fellowship, fun and activities atNew Horizons in 2017.

It is hard to believe that it has been 17 years since Y2K.Remember the panic that all the computers were goingto crash. We survived it. Time sure flies. This isanother year for celebration with Canada being 150years old. There will be lots of exciting thingshappening. I for one want to complete a fewcelebratory projects because I am sure I will not seeCanada 200.People are contemplating special Canada 150 quilts andwall hangings and other projects. The shops haveordered in special fabrics to inspire the unique quiltsthat will be made.We are dreaming about all of the projects that we wantto make this year. Believe me; the dreams are alwaysbigger than our ability to complete everything, butdon’t fret, that is what keeps us going, What newtechniques will we learn, what new tools, fabrics, yarn, patterns will be available that we just have to have? Will we live up to all those New Year’s resolutions thatwe make with good intentions. Will we finish all ofthose PHDs (projects half done) prior to starting justanother more interesting, more urgent project? Will wefinally organize (and keep organized) our area wherewe create? Will we be able to keep our crafting budgetunder control?Let us all look forward to another exciting year ofcrafting and creating, of making and retaining friendsand sharing the skills we have. So, if your New Year’s resolution is to make newfriends and expand your area of lifelong learning, besure to pop in one Tuesday and see if the Fibre Artsgroup is going to be your new thing. We hope it will beand you will keep coming back.To all of the current members, this is the beginning ofanother great year.

Good friends are like quilts. They age with you, yetnever lose their warmth.

“Sir, you cannot fish here!”

“Don’t worry, I’m not fishing, I’m just teachingmy worm to swim.”

A duck walks into a bar.

It asks the barkeeper: “Do you have bread?”

Bartender: “No.”

Duck: “Do you have bread?”-

Bartender: “NO!”-

Duck: “Do you…”

Bartender: “LISTEN! I HAVE NO BREAD AND IFYOU ASK ME ONE MORE TIME, I’M GONNA

NAIL YOU TO THAT WALL!!!”

Duck: “Do you have nails?”

Bartender: “NO!”

Duck: “Do you have bread?”

Father buys a lie detector that makes a loudbeep whenever somebody lies around it. The

son comes home in the afternoon. Father askshim, “So, you were at school today, right?”

Son: “Yeah.”

Detector: “Beep.“

Son: “OK, OK, I was in a cinema.”

Detector: “Beep.”

Son: “Alright, I went for a beer with my friends.”

Father: “What?! At your age, I wouldn’t touchalcohol!“

Detector: “Beep.”

Mother laughs: “Ha ha ha, well, he really is yourson!”

Detector: “Beep.”

Doctor, how can I live longer than 100 years?Do you smoke?

No.Do you eat too much?

No.Do you go to bed late?

No.Do you have affairs with promiscuous women?

No.Then why would you want to live more than 100

years?

I read the mass chicken farms pump chickensfull of antibiotics.

Well, that would at least explain why chickensoup is so good when you have a cold.

A guy asks his neighbor in an apartmentbuilding: “Mr Trepper, you live directly above

me and you have the same 2-room apartmentas I do. How many rolls of wallpaper did you

buy when you moved in?

“We got 18 rolls,” answers the neighbor.

Two months later the guy meets his neighboragain and says, “It’s really funny – I put thewallpaper on everywhere and I still had 10

rolls left over.”

Neighbor smiles, “Yeah, so did we.“

A woman caught her husband on the weightscale, sucking in his stomach.

“That won’t help you, Joe, you know?”

“Oh it helps a lot,” says the man, “it’s the onlyway I can see the numbers!”

They say money doesn't bring you happiness.Still, it is better to verify things for yourself.
