Playground Refurbishments
Chatsworth Park South
A small working group of Telscombe Town Councillors have been working on a plan to update the
three play spaces in our Towns for the last year. Chatsworth Park South and North along with
Robert Kingan in East Saltdean have been in desperate need of a revamp. A partial
modernisation was completed in 2013 using Council budgets match funded against successful
grant applications delivering new equipment costing £110,000. pto
Playground Refurbishments - Chatsworth Park North
On the 1st of May 2018 an extensive refurbishment will begin at all three play spaces. This will
complete the project to upgrade these valuable and well used facilities. New equipment, ground
work and perimeter fencing will bring all of these playgrounds up to a high specification. We have
worked with LewesDC to deliver the project and the contractors Playsafe have now been
awarded the contract. On behalf of the working group Cllr Andy Smith said ‘We are very pleased
that the Town Council is now embarking on fully upgrading our playgrounds started 4 years ago.
When completed we will have some of the most up-to-date playspaces for our children to enjoy.
We are aiming to have these important facilities ready before the Summer Holidays’.

More information will be available on our website www.telscombetowncouncil.gov.uk The works being undertaken represent a Council investment of £220,000 in total which has mainly
come from the Council’s reserves. A number of successful grant applications both large and small
have helped with the funding. We would like to thank the Telscombe Residents Association and
The House Project for the donation of new seesaws which will be installed in Chatsworth Park
South and North.
Neighbourhood First
Neighbourhood First is a new team of community advisors being launched by Lewes District
Council.
The team will work within communities to improve neighbourhoods and act as a link with the
council. Advisors will work alongside a range of volunteers, groups and other council staff to
maintain the quality of the environment and provide help and advice to local residents.
Leader of Lewes District Council, Councillor Andy Smith, officially launched the new service at
Saxon House, Newhaven, on Tuesday April 3rd.
Cllr Smith said: “This is a fantastic new initiative that will be of real benefit to residents in the
district. As well as assisting on a range of issues, Neighbourhood Advisors can carry out
inspections on local streets and open spaces to make sure issues such as littering, and graffiti are
quickly addressed.
They can also give advice on access issues to local support services and attend community, town
and parish council meetings.”
Neighbourhood Advisors can help & assist residents to try and resolve a range of issues, such as:
Dog fouling Fly-tipping Littering and street cleaning Abandoned vehicles
Fallen down trees. Find out more about the work of Neighbourhood First at:- www.lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/Neighbourhood-First

Stuck In Our grateful thanks
go to pupils at
Peacehaven
Heights School who
recently undertook a
litter pick at
Chatsworth Park.
The activity was to
help the children understand how important it is for us to take care of our environment.
Unfortunately litter has been highlighted globally as having a dramatic, negative impact on the
wildlife and health of our planet. They were there for several days and collected a phenominal
amount of rubbish.
It is a shame that there was so much to collect and we would ask that visitors to the park use the
numerous bins provided to throw away their rubbish.

£104,000 Needed from Local Residents To Unlock £4 million from The Lottery
Dear residents of Telscombe and East Saltdean
Saving Saltdean Lido’s pools and building has always been about preserving our heritage and providing much-needed leisure and community facilities in the area.
Opening the marvellous new pools last summer was phase one of our project and cost some £3 million.
Phase two is the restoration of the building. The Lottery has set aside £4 million towards this. However, it has said that our community needs to contribute too.
And so we now have to raise £104,000 from local residents and businesses by mid-June which is when the lottery committee next meets.
If we don’t reach this target then the lottery money will go away forever and we won’t be able to proceed with phase two. This would be a real blow for the area and would see the building boarded up and continue to be an eyesore that blights rather than benefits our community. The library and community centre housed within the building will both close.
The future of the pools will also be in doubt as they cannot survive without revenue from a heritage café, rooms for hire and events in a revamped building
So far, our crowdfunding campaign has raised some £20,000 (in online pledges and cheques), we have another eight weeks to reach our target.
We are therefore asking local residents to please show their support by pledging money. This is a promise to pay. If we don’t reach the £104,000 target then the lottery money will go away and we won’t need to draw the money down from you.
(If you are self-employed or own a business then you can offset your pledge against tax.)
There’s never been a magic money tree for the lido and it’s down to people who care about it. This is it!
Please send a cheque payable to Saltdean Lido Trust (Charity number 1173503) to Saltdean Lido Trust, Saltdean Lido, Park Road, Brighton BN2 8SP
Or you can pledge online at www.spacehive.com/saltdean-lido
Please feel free to call us direct to discuss or email [email protected]
We can do it if we all contribute. Please, please help us restore the lido building to its former glory. Come on we can do it!

Civic Centre Car Park Car park control measures have been discussed
following an issue with a member of the public
falling in the car park whilst not visiting the Civic
Centre. The associated insurance claim which will
result in a large pay-out. Also we have lost a hirer
as they could not find parking spaces and have had
complaints from weekend hirers due to longer term
parkers during the day and overnight. These factors
will have a detrimental affect on the Council’s
income. At the moment the Civic Centre is the only
Committee whose income mainly covers the
expenditure and we want it to stay that way. Even if
someone going to the shops only parks for 5
minutes, it could coincide with hirers arriving to park
and not finding a space available. We are therefore
investigating the possibility of a manually operated
permanent barrier, bollards and new signage to
alleviate any further insurance claims that directly
affect the insurance premium and cost to the
Council and tax payers. We hope you will realise the
problem we face and work with us and avoid using
the car park unless you are visiting the Centre.
Spring into Spring The Mayor’s recent entertainment
evening, Spring into Spring, proved
a huge success with a bumper
attendance.
‘Elvis’ the guest entertainment
proved a huge hit and as well as
providing a fun evening for
everyone, just over £400 was
raised for the Mayor’s charities.
Thanks to everyone for coming and
all those that helped on the
evening.
Please let us know if you would like
us to put on another similar event.
