Instructor PreparationCourse materials: For this course, the instructor will need the following materials:

1. Worksheets and handouts. 2. Instructor Abstract: This document originates from the course Design

Development Brief, contains a course outline with timings with facilitation notes for activities.

3. PowerPoint Presentation, (CD) in Microsoft 2007.

Source documents or other resources here that will be helpful for instructors to review.

2012 North Carolina Fire Code (based on 2009 IFC )

Instructor Responsibilities I. The instructor is expected to prepare adequately for the training event.

Be familiar with the local building concerns. Specific needs of the registrants. Be acquainted with local and national news events that effect building

safety and energy efficiency. Be prepared to share any resources that may be used to help the

participants.

II. Become familiar with the content of this course.

Add some examples to the training to help the learner. Direct the leaner to the page in the workbook that correlates with what is

listed on the slide. Ask the learners questions that will elicit more than yes and no answers,

provide feedback to them about their answers and encourage discussion and other opinions.

III. Lead classroom activities to enforce learning.

These activities are designed to enhance learning. It is critical that these activities take place so that you have an opportunity

to provide feedback to the participants and facilitate in the learning and reinforcement of concepts that may be new to the learner.

Instructor Responsibilities (continued)IV. Facilitate lively discussions and provide your experience.

Ask questions that will elicit more than a yes or no answer. Encourage those who are interpreting the code differently to participate in

the discussion. This activity is where the learning happens. Talk from personal experience and encourage others to do so too. Thank participants for their comments and answers.

V. Provide feedback to all participants as they work during the course. Provide the learner with feedback and direct them to the answers to their

questions in the code books. Provide examples to them and encourage the participants to consult the code to find answers.

Know that participants will be asked if they can achieve the objectives of this class and that you have provided them with constructive feedback in the surveys, this will serve as evidence to our accreditation agency.

Assessment of Learning OutcomesIn order for this course to obtain accreditation, learning outcomes or objectives need to be aligned with various ways of assessment. Proof of the learning needs to be shown and feedback from the instructor needs to be delivered before the certificate is given to the participant.

Directions: Instructional designers need to insert the objectives into this document and then develop assessments for the activities. Giving instructors enough information about the activities will help them to better manage the learning, provide feedback and help learners learn. The activities and assessments should be aligned with the level of the course. Some of the more basic objectives will become enabling objectives or prerequisite objectives, thus helping remove the more basic information from being discussed in the intermediate and advanced level classes.

Learning outcome / Objective Method of Instruction

Method(s) of Assessment Method of Feedback

Describe the purpose, criteria and basis for the plan review and code compliance with the 2009 IECC, including:

Plan review authorities and responsibilities.

The collaborative nature of professional plan review.

Describe the basic terms related to performing an energy plan review.

Lecture Quiz The answers will be delivered after all participants have taken the quiz. The instructor will discuss any questions that people may have given wrong and direct them where the correct answers are located in the code.

Name, How long have you been working with the energy code?

What is the most interesting plan review submittal that you have seen?

These questions will give you an idea of the experience level of the class so that as you work through the day, you can point out things that people said they wanted to know. You can also use the more experienced learners to give opinions and help those less experienced with the code.
