To understand what type of environment Product Name is expected to be in, describe the sales

channel and environment that product is primarily expected to be used in. Try to list any specific

Discuss any software design theories and background at a high level.

Describe what software product and version will support the product.

List any special requirements or dependencies.

List any minimum requirements for the hardware or OS

Greater detail should be provided in the software requirements document.

5.0 HARDWARE OVERVIEW

Describe in simple terms the hardware requirements for Product Name. List any special

requirements or assumptions, such as “All signal processing will be done on the host” Provide

simple story on product usage.

5.1 DESIGN THEORY

If a new design or technology is required to make Product Name, briefly describe the technology

and why you want to use it. i.e. “Technology xyz creates a low latency, high bandwidth pipe

allowing PCIe and Displayport data to be transferred.”

5.2 NEW TECHNOLOGY: TECHNOLOGY XYZ

Describe in more detail the Technology xyz to be used and include any special requirements

such as licensing or special testing.

5.2.1 Interoperability with other products with New Technology

What products in the market already use the Technology xyz and how will Product Name

interact with them. List any products that Interoperability is not planned for.

5.2.2 Host Compatibility

How is Product Name compatible to other devices, such as laptops or other equipment? Are

there any restrictions on compatibility? Is there any external speed or performance requirement

of the host device?

5.2.3 Future products with New Technology

Are there any plans to use the Technology xyz in other products? If yes, then what products and

when?

5.3 FIRMWARE

If Product Name has embedded firmware, mention requirement and reference to specific firmware spec for more details. The firmware spec should include

6.0 ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

This section should describe the base electrical functionality to meet the requirements. It should

not specify any hardware, such as CPU type or speed, unless required for compatibility, i.e.

Thunderbolt connectivity.

6.1 CONNECTORS

Describe the connectors and their use on Product Name, such as “Two Mini-Digilink

connectors..”, “Product Name will have a DigiSerial connection..”

6.2 LED

Describe what the LED should do during power-up and normal operation, such as error

condition reporting. Is there any special need for multi-color?

6.3 DISPLAYS

Discuss any displays and their uses.

6.4 RESET SWITCH

If a reset switch is required, describe it’s function when pressed. Describe any special

requirements or expectations.

6.5 POWER JACK

More information on the Power Supply can be found in the WorldWide Product Requirements

section.

6.6 OTHER CONTROLS AND INPUTS

Use this section to describe any other controls or inputs into Product Name. You must provide

specs or details as to how these controls/inputs effect Product Name. See the example below:

The Product Name ID will similar to the xxxx line of products.

The mechanical section should describe all the ID/mechanicals, including the ID concept and the

requirements for the front and back panels, connectors & jacks, LEDs, labels, switches,

artwork, and branding. It is the designer who will put together the requirements into the final ID

look. If there are any special user requirements, such as switch force, size, or a special logo

requirement, then they should also be mentioned in this section.
