Temple Sinai’s Memorable Adventure to Israel Led by Rabbi Hannah Goldstein June 2020 (As of 4/30/19) Join Rabbi Goldstein for a fun, interactive, hands-on Israel adventure for participants of every age. Our spectacular guide Julie will bring heritage and history to life as we explore and celebrate in this amazing land. DAY 1: Wednesday, June 17, 2020: DEPARTURE We depart the United States on our overnight flight to Israel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY 2: Thursday, June 18, 2020: WELCOME TO ISRAEL! We arrive in Israel this afternoon and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative. Transfer on own to our hotel in Tel Aviv for check in and a chance to refresh. This evening, we join together for a welcome dinner to kick off our Israel adventure. Overnight in Tel Aviv ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY 3: Friday, June 19, 2020: TOURING TEL AVIV Breakfast at our hotel. Choose Option A or B: OPTION A: We visit Old Jaffa for a co-existence tour as a Jewish and Arab tour guide lead us side by side as we trace the different historical narratives and explore the possibility of creating a common future and shared society. We continue to Independence Hall, the site of the signing of Israel’s Declaration of Independence in 1948. (If still under renovation, we will follow the Independence Trail or visit the Shalom Tower). OPTION B: We visit Israeli NGO Hotline for Refugees and Migrants to learn about the situation first hand. We meet with an asylum-seeker and hear their story and take a walking tour of a South Tel Aviv neighborhood where the majority of African asylum seekers live and work. Hotline suggests that this tour is best for ages 14 and up. ALL: Browse among the street vendors and artisans at Nachalat Binyamin, as the locals busily prepare for Shabbat. Time for lunch on own here. We return to our hotel to freshen up. This evening, we participate in outdoor Kabbalat Shabbat services on the beach with Rabbi Goldstein, followed by Shabbat dinner at our hotel together. Overnight in Tel Aviv

DAY 1: Wednesday, June 17, 2020: DEPARTURE

• We depart the United States on our overnight flight to Israel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY 2: Thursday, June 18, 2020: WELCOME TO ISRAEL!

• We arrive in Israel this afternoon and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative. • Transfer on own to our hotel in Tel Aviv for check in and a chance to refresh. • This evening, we join together for a welcome dinner to kick off our Israel adventure.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY 4: Saturday, June 20, 2020 SHABBAT SHALOM!

• Breakfast at our hotel. • Today, we visit the Ayalon Institute, where we discover the secrets of the underground

ammunition factory that played a pivotal role in Israel’s fight for independence. • Choose to spend the afternoon at the beach with possible organized paddle boarding (cost on

own). Other on own options abound – from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art to a stroll along Rothschild Blvd.

• Spend the evening at leisure and enjoy dinner on own as Shabbat comes to an end.

Overnight in Tel Aviv -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DAY 5: Sunday, June 21, 2020: NORTHERN OUTREACH

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel. • This morning, we visit the Palmach Museum, where we “join up” with the paramilitary forces

from Israel’s pre-statehood days. • This afternoon, we visit Atlit, a former detention compound for Jewish immigrants who arrived

illegally during the British Mandate period. • We continue to Tzippori to see the ruins and the mosaic known as the Mona Lisa of the Galilee. • We travel to the Galilee to check into our kibbutz and refresh before dinner together this

evening.

Overnight in the Galilee ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY 6: Monday, June 22, 2020: GOLAN/GALILEE ROOTS

• Breakfast at our kibbutz. • Our morning begins with a short hike through the Tel Dan

Nature Reserve, source of the Jordan River and site of ancient archeological finds.

• We continue to the Druze village of Bukhata, where we will enjoy home hospitality and lunch as we learn about this unique community.

• Following lunch, we set out on an exciting jeep ride through the Golan Heights, passing former Syrian bunkers on our way to the top of Har Bental for panoramic views stretching far into neighboring Syria.

• We return to our kibbutz for a relaxing evening and dinner together.

DAY 7: Tuesday, June 23, 2020: SAFED AND THE ROAD TO JERUSALEM

• Breakfast and check out of our kibbutz. • Today, we travel to the mystical city of Safed, where we stroll through the cobblestone streets to

view the beautiful ancient synagogues and admire the galleries in the artist’s quarter. • We ascend to Jerusalem through the Jordan Valley Rift. Upon arrival, we stop atop Mt. Scopus

to recite a special “Shehecheyanu” blessing as we look out over the City of Gold for the first time.

• We continue to Emek Tzurim, where we participate in the dig that is sifting the Temple Mount rubble. New and important finds are made here every day.

• We check into our hotel, then head out for dinner in a private room at a local restaurant. We are joined by a speaker from the New Israel Fund for an update on their work.

Overnight in Jerusalem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 8: Wednesday, June 24, 2020: JERUSALEM’S OLD CITY/REACHING OUT

• Breakfast at our hotel. • We begin our day in the Old City with a fascinating tour of

the famed Western Wall tunnels, where we discover the archaeological wonders that once remained untouched for centuries.

• Next, we enjoy a walking tour through the different neighborhoods of the Old City, exploring the Jewish quarter and the Arab market (shuk).

• Hummus lunch on own at Lina or Abu Shukri. • This afternoon, we travel to Gush Etzion for a dialogue with

Ali Abu Awwad and Rabbi Shaul Yudelman, or other leaders of Shorashim/Roots. This program fosters a grassroots movement of understanding, non-violence and partnership between Israelis and Palestinians.

• Time permitting, we continue to see Rachel’s tomb, just outside Bethlehem. • Free evening for exploring and dinner in Jerusalem. We suggest enjoying a stroll along Ben

Yehuda Street or Emek Refaim. • Optional ($18 – pre-register): After dinner, we walk to the Tower of David to watch the

spectacular Sound and Light show.

DAY 9: Thursday, June 25, 2020: MASADA & THE DEAD SEA

• Breakfast at our hotel. • We depart early this morning and travel south to the Dead Sea

basin. • Upon arrival, we ascend Masada to view the remains of King

Herod's fortresses, including the synagogue, walls and bathhouses, as we learn about the Jewish Zealots’ last stand against the Roman forces.

• We descend the mountain and head to the beach for lunch and an unsinkable swim in the healing, salty waters of the Dead Sea.

• We return to Jerusalem for a fun evening and dinner on own at Machane Yehuda. After dinner, stroll through the market again to see the artistic graffiti painted on the closed shutter doors.

Overnight in Jerusalem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DAY 10: Friday, June 26, 2020: WE REMEMBER

• Breakfast at our hotel. • This morning, we visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s memorial to the Holocaust, where we view the

many moving exhibitions, including the Hall of Names and the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations. Children under the age of 13 will enjoy a tour of the Biblical Zoo.

• This afternoon, we set out on a scavenger hunt through the Yemin Moshe neighborhood, a fun way to get to know the area.

• As the sun begins to set, we participate in Kabbalat Shabbat services with the members of Kol Haneshama, followed by a Shabbat dinner at Notre Dame Rooftop restaurant.

Overnight in Jerusalem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY 11: Saturday, June 27, 2020: SHABBAT IN JERUSALEM

• Breakfast at our hotel. • Today, we join together to celebrate our B’nai Mitzvah in the beautiful Feinstein gardens at

Hebrew Union College (HUC). Mazel tov! • This afternoon, we enjoy Shabbat lunch together at Beit Shmuel. • We return to the Old City and enjoy a walk through the Christian quarter, strolling along

the Via Dolorosa and concluding at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. • This evening, we check out of our hotel and enjoy a festive farewell dinner, recalling all that we

have experienced together on our adventure. • We transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for our overnight flight back to the United States.

• We arrive home back in the United States this morning.
