Assumptions / constraints

• Substitute definitive LHC part between MSIs and triplet left of IP8

• Install definitive injection elements(MSI, MKI, TDI/TCDD - as far as available)

• Reproduce basic geometry and optics around MSI - MKI - TDI to set up + test injection under real conditions

• Match to TI 8 and 8-7 arc optics

• Do not require triplet powering

• Install definitive vacuum elements and instrumentation (where reasonable + available)

• Use elements foreseen for TI 2 (+ SPS spares) to fill the holes(magnets, vacuum, instrumentation, p.

converters)

• Find (keep) space in UA87 (+ UA83 ?) to locate power converters

• Pull short cables (e.g. through holes between UA87 and RA87)

• LHCb magnet in place, remainder of UX85 covered by solid platform

• Avoid unnecessary costs

Some more info on equipment (prelim.) + open points

Vacuum:• Install definitive part for and around MSI - MKI - TDI/TCDD.• Fill up straight sections with TI 2 material (60/63 mm) (check for supports).• Increase pumping to 1 VPIA / ~ 15 m (TI 8: 1 VPIA / ~ 60 m).• Put 1 - 2 400 l pumps before entry of cold section.• Put temporary power supplies + controls in UA87.• Part bridging LHCb magnet only to be put up shortly before the sector test.

Power converters / AC supply / cabling:• Baseline assumption: install converters in UA87 (+ UA83 ?) (SR8 pretty full)• Clarify rating + availability of transformer + switchboard (ERD1/87).

Cooling:• Baseline assumption: draw from the available pipeline, using flexible hoses.• Clarify availability of IP8 water station (normally ok by that time).

This is the starting point … detailed layouts to be studied ...

Further provisions for sector test: temporary beam dump

• have temporary beam dump at end of arc• choose model / dump performance according integrated + instantaneous

intensities (to be specified)• mind INB regulations: containment, zoning, intensities logging, ...

Summary

Substitute for sector test LHC part between MSIs and triplet left of IP8.

Baseline assumptions:• Install definitive injection elements (MSI, MKI, TDI/TCDD with their associated

vacuum + instrumentation; certain surrogates are possible).

• Reproduce basic geometry and optics around MSI - MKI - TDI to set up + test definitive injection choice of elements.

• Holes mainly to be filled up “à la TI 8” (material mainly to be “borrowed” from TI 2) (magnets, vacuum, instrumentation).

• Candidates for active components found (magnets, power converters).

• Many details need still to be worked out (proper integration study, exact location of power converters, cabling paths, location of controls equipment, pumping scheme, BI + vacuum integration, vacuum across LHCb magnet, …).

• Specify performance of temporary beam dump at the end of the arc (INB !).

• Planning should not pose particular problems (once TI 8 is (success)fully installed).
