TREND 1: Lightboxes

Lightboxes, lightboxes everywhere.

Lightboxes, particularly the nLite™ offered by Nichols, are great for creating an eye-catching display in all shapes and sizes, in portable and modular exhibits, as well as large custom booths:

• Many exhibits are only lit from the outside. Having light emanating from within can make your graphics really pop. The key that makes one lightbox different from another is brightness and evenness of lights – which is why the nLite from Nichols is first in its class!

• Look for a light box that has no perimeter shadowing, no matter the size of the graphic.

• Many light boxes can be custom made to just about any size and shape to fit your space and your needs. Some light boxes can even be curved. Check with your exhibit house for their custom capabilities.

• Most light boxes are exceptionally easy to set up and take down, and have low shipping costs compared to other custom exhibit components.

Take a look at the stunning lightbox examples we saw at the show:

• The curved lightbox from Matrix Frame accommodates a monitor mount. (upper left photo)

• Lightboxes make a great header for any exhibit. (lower left photo)• There were battery driven lightboxes available as well as lighted

counters too. (lower right photo)

TREND 2: Homey spaces

Make yourself at home.

Many intriguing booths are designed to make spaces feel like home. Take a look at some of these great ways to create inviting spaces:

• Return walls coming out from the back wall create a contained space allowing for the feeling of a separate room on the show floor. (upper left photo)

• Roof-like elements add to that cozy atmosphere. (lower left photo)• And who doesn’t like to eat? Some booths had a kitchen, coffee shop

or a place where visitors could relax around a table. (photos on right)

Work with an exhibit house that offers a vast amount of options to help you create the space you are looking for. Make sure they have custom design capabilities and spend the time brainstorming with you to help you make your next booth cozy and comfortable, getting you the attention you need to succeed.

TREND 3: Large fabric graphics

Large graphics make a BIG impact.

Fabric has been in the spotlight for many years as an easy, cost-effective alternative to hard wall architecture. This year, however, we saw that fabric graphics really came into their own as a premium finish. Here are some ways to make fabric graphics work for you:

• The emphasis today is on large fabric graphics – see the two example photos at the left to see what stood out at the show.

• Large fabric graphics can be stretched across portable, lightweight structures configured to meet multiple needs.

• Illuminate your graphics either from inside (as with a Nichols nLite: http://www.gonichols.com/what-we-do/nlite/) or from the outside to really make the message pop.

Now more than ever, large fabric graphics are a great way to make a BIG impact without the BIG costs. For even better value, the underlying structure can be reconfigured for multiple uses to get the most out of your tradeshow budget.

When it comes to beauty, durability, and design options, large fabric graphics will make a BIG impact for your next show.

TREND 4: Hot technology

Technology brings in the crowd.

The era of booths without technology elements is past. When you’re considering how to make your booth stand out, think about how you can best use technology. You might consider:

• Creating a web portal just for the show, and using iPads so that attendees can input their contact information. There are so many interesting and beautiful ways to display iPads in your booth (check out tablet stands in our kiosk portfolio at gonichols.com).

• Rather than just using printed panels, include LCD screens for a message that moves.

• A transparent LCD screen can carry your changing video marketing message while also being a premium product showcase. (right photo)

• Large interactive touch screens engage show attendees and offer a great way to draw your potential client into a specific program, website or marketing campaign. (lower left photo)

• GES’ exhibit featured stunning LED screens powered by D3 flash-based animation. The center edge-to-edge screen displayed revolving marketing messages, and alternated between using the entire screen or multiple messages in different areas of the screen. The edge-to-edge screen on the right was simpler, rotating several vibrant hues of the booth’s color palette with a single headline and icon. (upper left photo)

In these amazing examples from Exhibitor 2014, there are so many ways to integrate hot technology to your display in an eye-catching way.

TREND 5: Make it fun

Bring in traffic with something fun to do!

When planning a booth, many exhibitors make one big mistake: they think only about what they want to get from customers and forget what customers want from them. It may sound obvious, but potential customers are more likely to visit your booth, and to stay longer, if you have something they want.

If you want to draw a crowd, turn your company-centric thinking into customer-centric thinking. For example:

These pictures showcase some great examples of fun:

• A unique and intriguing musical show featured an enormous harp that was played by show attendees as well as the harpist. (left photo)

• A fun game where participants could win money. (right photo)

The displays spoke for themselves – both had crowds the entire time we were there.

YOUR GOAL COMPANY-CENTRIC THINKING CUSTOMER-CENTRIC THINKING

Increase foot trafficTry to get a booth as close to the middle of the exhibit hall as possible.

Create a game that draws a crowd to your booth no matter where you are placed.

Capture contact informationHave a form for visitors to fill out so you can collect data and your reps can follow up leads after the show.

Give out prizes, drawing entries, or tickets to an event (that you’ll hold at the booth) to anyone who fills out your form.

Build brand recognitionPut your logo and URL everywhere on the booth, or hand out an item with your logo on it.

Build a conversation space to introduce your brand to visitors by incorporating a game or something else that’s fun and memorable using your logo and URL..

BRINGING IN TRAFFIC WITH FUN

TREND 6: Tall exhibits

Finding ways to use your vertical space.

You want to get your money’s worth from your tradeshow booth by taking full advantage of the space available to you. To find a place where there’s often a lot of overlooked real estate, more exhibitors are looking up.

These photos from Exhibitor 2014 show how using the space above your booth can make you really stand out. Here are a few suggestions for ways to use your vertical space:

• Tall lightboxes can help you make a maximum impact.• One way to use space above your booth is with tall banners that can

be seen from across the exhibit hall.• Another way to draw attention is with hanging signs or lights.

These examples are of island booths that are using the vertical space, but another great way to save money and still make a big impact is to reserve a perimeter space at your show. Sometimes these spaces cost the same amount as an in-line space but don’t come with the 8’ height limitation. You may be able to go up as high as 12’ along the wall (be sure to check with Show Management for your show’s specifications).

It’s the season for bringing booths to new heights, so go tall and draw in the crowd. Looking for the perfect source to help you? Keep your chin up, Nichols is here to help you.

TREND 7: Fabulous flooring

Don’t forget to look down.

Of course, looking up is just one way to find more space to give your message a boost. As you’ll see in the photos from Exhibitor 2014, there are also a lot of advantages to looking down. We saw lots of new flooring materials and were especially impressed with the look and quality of the wood-look, roll-out, padded vinyl available.

Some of the ways exhibitors are using flooring to make a fabulous impact:

• Continue the brand look and feel with brand elements on printed vinyl. (upper left photo)

• Make the floor a continuous booth element by using the same laminate to give the entire space a more contemporary feel. (upper right photo)

• Build the message with your value proposition printed on the floor of the seating area where clients stop to relax and can take your message in. (second photo from the top right)

• Make the floor more comfortable while extending the brand with dye sub printing to a carpet. (second photo from the top left)

• Draw attention with bright colors with dye sub printing that looks like a reflection from the lightboxes used in the exhibit. (third photo from top right)

• Give the space an upscale but homey feel with wood-look flooring. (bottom photo)

TREND 8: Be unique

Take advantage of new shapes, colors, and materials.

As an exhibitor, you want a unique, compelling way to get your message across. With all of the great ideas at Exhibitor 2014, we weren’t surprised to see a trend toward bold shapes, bright colors, and interesting materials.

The 2014 Exhibitor trends included (photos left page):

• Shapes: We noticed a move toward more angular, geometric shapes, which give a modern look and are conducive to illumination.

• Colors: White with bold color accents still rules the day. Colors can be printed directly on your panels, but with a white booth you can change the color of your LED lights quickly and easily change the color of your booth. Check out the display which was accented in green one day at the show as a tribute to St. Patrick’s Day and blue the next! (lower right photo)

• Materials: Wood is a great way to warm up your space, or you can go with faux concrete or other exciting new laminates for a more contemporary feel.

TREND 9: Think outside the counter [box]

Counters in 2014 have taken on a whole new look!

Just a few years ago, counters were merely serviceable, a place to fill out a drawing form, grab a brochure, find some extra storage, or sit for a chat. Because we want to use every part of the booth to further the messaging, many exhibitors are now finding ways to design a counter that is unique to their brand.

What to look for in a counter:

• It starts with great design - Fit it: the look and feel should match the style of your booth by using the same or complementary materials. - Brand it: whether you use strictly your brand color palette or the trademark itself, design the counter to work seamlessly with the other elements of your booth. - Shape it: choose from one of the many options available, or if you have the budget you can have your counter custom built. (lower left photo) - Light it: from color lit edges to accent lighting, to pierce-cut illuminated logos or rear-illuminated SEG graphics, lighting makes your counter stand out. (left side photos)

• It allows work to be done - Storage: make sure there is enough storage space. Do you need cabinets or drawers? Locked storage? - Surface: select the right surface area to match your needs. - Lighting: don’t forget to ensure adequate lighting, especially if you plan on using it for a workspace.

• It meets your needs - Purpose: whether you require a counter that’s portable and stylish, or highly customized and unique, or all of the above, make a list of requirements and design to fit them.
