PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Chapters continue to reach the
State goal of locating and
marking graves of 1812
personnel as this is part of the
chapter participating on the
Honor Roll.
Volunteer-Wauhatchie Chapter
marked the grave of Captain
John Houk on April 22, 2017 at
Boyd’s Creek Baptist Church in
Sevierville, Tennessee followed
by a reception at the historical
Wheatlands Plantation.
The State President attended the grave marking ceremony
honoring Patriot William Edward Butler, M.D. and his daughter
Mary Jane Butler on May 3, 2017 at the Historic Riverside
Cemetery in Jackson, Tennessee. It was an honor to give greetings
following the ceremony at a luncheon at the first Presbyterian
Church where we enjoyed hearing from descendents The Story of
William Edward Butler, “the Founding Father of Jackson,
Tennessee” The activities closure was the ”Overture of 1812” on
the Carillon.
Many 1812 ancestor stories have been accepted as Volunteer-
Wauhatchie Chapter prepares to publish a book. This is an
excellent opportunity for each member to expand their findings
beyond the information provided in their 1812 application. And
your ancestors will be so proud you took the time to submit your
stories.

State Registrar, Debra Wilson, has donated her book “Lewis H. Rouse, Sr. One of the Earliest
Preachers 1840 and His Descendents” to our Memorial Library.
The Summer board Meeting on August 5, 2017 at the Double Tree Hotel in Murfreesboro,
Tennessee was the debut of 1812 eaglet mascots, Maddy and Indy. A skit was presented where
the eaglets shared information about the Star Spangled Banner and War 1812. The idea is to
pass the eaglets along with the skit throughout the State as each Chapter presents the skit at
schools and libraries to help educate our youth of the War 1812. So Maddy and Indy have hit
the road.
Tulip Grove Chapter has the eaglets presently so just let them know when your Chapter would
like to have Maddy and Indy for a visit. This skit can be presented with only two members of
your chapter. Following the skit at our meeting some simple questions were ask to see if those
in attendance were listening and they, of course, passed with flying colors.
As we approach the end of this administration in March, I hope you are compiling notes along
the way as to the activities of your chapter so you can report them to me I will only have 4
minutes to report those activities at Associate Council but I want them to know about your
chapter’s accomplishments.
