Hoopla Term 1, 2017 RGS Netball Club Welcome to the first Hoopla of 2017. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Matthew Sleaford and I’m the new president of RGS Netball Club. Not many of you will know me as we are only a new family to Grammar but I am the proud father of twin daughters, Dominique and Jacqueline who started year 7 here this year and are mad keen netballers. Obviously, I’m not your normal Netball mum or coach and I will be the first to admit, whilst I do know the rules, and have played mixed Netball in the past, I’m not going to be many of your first point of call for any netball specific queries, well I hope not anyway…. But my reason for taking on the role is because I like to help out with what- ever my daughters are involved in, and my expertise are more aligned in financial, management and business decisions. Over 20 years of banking experience including the last 10 years of being the owner manager of BOQ North Rockhampton are skills that I can bring to the committee. In the girls Primary School days, I was actively involved with the P&C Association including the last 5 years as president. So I hope I can use my knowledge and experience to help the RGS Netball Club become bigger and better in 2017 and onwards. RGS Netball is the biggest club by far here at Rocky Grammar and so far everyone I have met has the shared the enthusiasm for the club and the game. Being the schools largest club, we are lucky enough to be able to team up with some awesome sponsors for 2017: Inferno –Tanya & Gavin Shuker. Rockhampton Powder Coating & Fence Panels– Jo and Andrew Winter. Elders Insurance Rockhampton – Nathan Fairley J & J Sypher Earthworks Alpha - Jamie and Jodie Sypher. Huge thanks from the committee and all the players for your sponsorship! Look forward to working with you and making your sponsorship as successful as the teams will be this year. Speaking of the 2017 committee, I would like to congratulate the following ladies on their election to the 2017 RGS Netball Club committee and I look forward to also working with you throughout the year. Vice President – Sharon Kingston Secretary – Carole van Loggerenberg Treasurer – Liz Scott Umpire Convenor – Tricia Ruddick Committee Members – Cynthia Kele, Jo Winter, Tanya Cottam I would just like to mention that apart from wanting to be involved in my girls passion, I was approached by some very, lets say assertive and convincing ladies about getting involved with the netball committee, but after meeting and talking with the Teacher in Charge, Lauren White, I could quickly see her passion and dedication to the RGS Netball Club, it made the decision to be involved a lot easier! Lauren has run through her goals and plans for what she has been working on over the last couple of years and going forward to ensure that every girl, at every age, with every level of ability gets an opportunity to improve and play the best netball that they can and to also improve as a person. I believe that we are very lucky to have Lauren steering the very large Rocky Grammar netball ship. Meeting with some of the players at the Meet and Greet night held in February and hearing Lilly Kele speak about her and the senior player’s goals and aspirations, it filled me with great pride and enthusiasm for the year ahead. I would like to wish all the players, coaches and helpers all the best for the upcoming season with a special mention and wish of good luck to the touring squad to New Zealand. I hope the trip is as successful and as memorable as it can be for you all. Yours in Netball Matt Sleaford RGS Netball Club, President From the President...

2017 Season - TIC Report

Netballers hits courts for off-season trainingWelcome back to netball for 2017. It’s

already shaping up to be a great year. Girls have now been placed into teams

and training for many has already started. Thank you to parents who got in early and registered online. It is a huge help to those who look after the administration of the club. Bridget Young, Lilly Kele, Lara Nobbs and Ruby Spottiswood, our netball captains have already discussed goals and values that we would like to encourage this year and attended junior training sessions to discuss further with our athletes. They have been integral to the success of the beginning of the season.

The New Zealand Tour will depart on Friday 31 March and the girls have been working hard in training and the gym to prepare for the games we’ll come against overseas. Like our Facebook page to follow the tour.

Thank you to the coaches who have volunteered to take a team this year. We have 3 teams in the 2017 competition, which is fantastic to see, and each one now has a committed, supportive coach to lead them through the year.

Looking ahead, term 2 will be a big one as the School Girls Competition will start the first week back and RNA games will

commence in the second week.To our netballers, we hope you enjoy the

competition as well as the opportunities to become better athletes and people during the 2017 netball season.

2017 - Captain’s Report

The RGS Netball Club values its players, parents, supporters and all the hard working volunteers including coaches, umpires and committee members. This season our Netball Captains have also developed their goals for the 2017 season which centre around four pillars - Sportsmanship, Role Models, Community and Resillience. Our RGS Netball Club Captains for 2017 - Ruby Spottiswood, Lilly Kele, Bridget Young and Lara Nobbs share with you their thoughts on the season ahead and what it means to be involved with RGS Netball.

What it means to be captains of the RGS Netball Club?It was a great pleasure for us being named captains as it allows us to give back to the RGS netball community, as we have been playing netball for many years and the RGS club has provided us with many opportunities.

What are your roles as captains? Our roles as captains are assisting Mrs White with anything that needs to be done, helping out with umpiring, coaching, supporting all the girls and making sure they are having a great netball season. As captains we will strive to be positive role models, and provide a friendly face that the girls can always approach.

What are your goals for the season? Our goal for the season is to promote the four values of RGS netball in order to create a positive culture. We also want to make sure everyone has an enjoyable netball season.

What is your message to your fellow RGS netball-ers?Our message for all of the girls is that no matter what your ability is there will be a place for you at RGS netball. Success is built on hard work and persistence, but most of all remember to have fun while you’re out there.

Welcome to the 2017 Netball season. As we make our way into the netball season, it is important to consider a path in umpiring. If you are interested in becoming an accredited umpire this season, please complete your on-line Level 1 accreditation during the holidays and then email your certifi-cate to me as soon as possible. The link to the website is – http://netball.com.au/get-involved/umpiring/accreditation/level-1-umpires-course/Please remember that it is important that every player contributes to the RGS Netball Club in some form throughout their time at the school, whether it be as a student coach or umpire. It is an expectation of the club that all players of Magic, Meteors, Liberty and Storm as well the firsts and seconds of each age group have their Level 1 Umpiring ac-creditation. If all coaches could please check with their players with regards to this, it would be much appreciated. Please email me the names of all players who are accredited so the

umpiring database can be updated. I also encourage all other players as well as RGS Club coaches to obtain their Level 1 accreditation during the 2017 season. Once again, umpire workshops with an on-court practical component will be offered this season. These workshops will take place at team training sessions during Term 2 and will give both our new and existing umpires the opportunity to practise their umpiring skills as well be able to ask questions. Our RGS club umpiring rewards scheme will continue this season with whistles RGS Umpire shirts, movie passes, and other RGS merchandise being available. Remember, if you are keen to umpire or have questions about umpiring feel free to send me an email or stop for a chat at the courts.
