Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends, This Sunday is the fifth Sunday of Lent. Our journey as we head towards the death and resurrection of Jesus is almost over. A focus as we head towards Easter Sunday is that of repentance, and entering Easter in the right spiritual space. Just as we choose to sin, so we can choose to give that which is our very own, our sins, to God. After all, He came to take away our sins, but he cannot do that, if we do not give them to him. This is exactly what He desires from us; our sins, our weaknesses, and our repentance. No matter who we are or what we have done, God is waiting in the Sacrament of Penance for us, through the Priest, to take our sins away and be reconciled to Him. The priest is not there to judge, the priest is not there to condemn, He is there to help, to heal you, to be the instrument of God’s wonderful mercy. CONFIRMATION CAMP Next week our Year 6 students, some parents and teachers, head down to Geraldton to their Confirmation Camp. During this visit, they attend the mass of the Holy Oils and meet with Bishop Justin. It is a great opportunity for the boys and girls to deepen their faith understandings as they prepare to receive the Holy Spirit in Confirmation. SWIMMING CARNIVAL Many thanks to the parents, students and staff who ensured we had a very successful swimming carnival last Friday. It was a very smoothly run event and a credit to PE Teacher, Mr Paul Willison. Well done to all involved and congratulations to overall shield winners, Stirling INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL The Interschool Swimming Carnival is being held this Friday. I encourage all parents and friends of children involved to come along on the day and support St Mary’s students as they compete with other schools in this region. The final in my series of home reading tips: Do I Correct All Reading Mistakes? When children are reading, they will make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when they read, and we usually get by with it unless it’s a favorite book that your child has memorized! It isn’t important to cor-rect every mistake that the child makes if it doesn’t change the meaning of the text, but chil-dren should-n’t get in the habit of reading inaccurately either. Help your child make corrections by asking if what they read makes sense and by sounding out the words. Keep it fun so children enjoy reading and aren’t wor-ried about making a mistake.

How Do I Correct Reading Mistakes? You can help your child make corrections while reading and still keep it positive. After your child has read to the end of a paragraph or page you might say, “Look at all of the words that you read cor-rectly. Let’s go back and look at this word again to see if we can figure out what it really is.” Be specific in your praise as well. Instead of saying “good job” try “I like the way you made your voice sound mad when the character was angry” or “You read a lot of hard words in that story.” Your child will repeat the behaviours that you praise.

Thankyou to everyone for the support I have received for the past 5 terms as Acting Head of Primary I

have thoroughly enjoyed the role. Mrs Nyman returns next term I will continue in the school in the role of

Learning support Coordinator and Teacher Mentor.
