Scripture 2020

Scripture lessons are scheduled to commence in Week 4. These lessons will continue to be delivered on a Wednesday for 30 minutes. We have three options for students during this time: Catholic, Anglican or Non-Scripture. Students will continue in the same Scripture arrangement as last year unless a parent/carer requests a change in writing. If you would like more information please use this link on our school website - https://berkeley-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/learning-at-our-school/religion-and-ethics.html Kind regards Colleen Crossingham

In 2020 Berkeley Public School will enter the fourth year under the Early Action for Success initiative. This strategy aims to improve students’ literacy and numeracy skills through a targeted approach in the early years of schooling (K-2). The key features of Early Action for Success are:

❖ instructional leadership ❖ personalised learning ❖ assessment for learning ❖ targeted interventions ❖ high quality professional learning for our teachers

with a focus on literacy and numeracy. ❖ delivery of the highest quality teaching and learning

programs Our school invests heavily to ensure all of our teachers are accessing opportunities to further develop the skills and knowledge required to deliver high quality teaching and learning programs in literacy and numeracy. This year we will continue to participate in a numeracy initiative titled "Building Numeracy Leadership". Teachers are implementing numeracy lessons which are inquiry-based and provide opportunities for our students to be problem solving mathematicians. We are also committed to providing high quality literacy lessons where our students are provided with daily opportunities to be authors, readers and participants in rich conversations. I am looking forward to another exciting year of learning growth for all students at Berkeley Public School and also the opportunity to meet parents and caregivers. If you have any questions regarding Early Action for Success, please don’t hesitate to contact our school. Colleen Crossingham Instructional Leader

South Coast School Sport Association The South Coast School Sport Association along with all districts and schools have been working on a restructure throughout 2019 to be implemented this year in 2020. These changes aim to address inequities and barriers created by combinations of geographical location, urban development and population growth.

Following lengthy discussions and negotiations, Dapto District PSSA and South Wollongong PSSA have merged. The new district, comprised of 14 schools, will be known as South Wollongong PSSA, maintaining a sense of uniformity with North Wollongong PSSA and Central Wollongong PSSA. A new logo, colours and identity have been created to represent both areas. This should lift the overall standard of ALL district carnivals to become more competitive, with basic qualifying times implemented for events. Carnivals will be more adequately staffed with the sharing of roles and responsibilities across more schools. The first carnival as a new district will be the ‘South Wollongong PSSA District Swimming Carnival’ to be held at Dapto Olympic Pool on Thursday 20 February. GALA Days will remain separate at this stage between the merged districts.

For any further questions please see Mr Dobinson, who can be found each afternoon under the COLA from 3-3.15pm. Thank you for your support. Jack Dobinson Sports Coordinator

Breakfast Club is now running in the kitchen every morning between 8.30 and 9.00am. We would like to thank Collegians Football Club Port Kembla for their on going support by supplying the bread every day. Also, thank you to Clubs NSW for their support and grant money, which supplies all other food required to feed the students every day.
