Bike Ed Last week, starting with very wet conditions and finishing in blistering

heat, our year 4 /5 students participated in Bike S.A’s, ‘Bike Ed program’.

Our students gained valuable instructions in road rules, riding safely on

the road and the many benefits of bike riding. Over the course of the 4

day program our students had the opportunity to

ride out around our community and practice the

skills they had been taught. While we had to

modify the program due

to the extreme weath-

er, all students enjoyed

their involvement and

improved their skills.

A huge Thank You to the Bike Ed instructors who dealt with the weather so well and did such a great job with our students and to the

Way2Go program for bringing this opportunity to Clare Primary. Hopefully we will see more of our students riding to and from school. Thursday week 5 is our Ride to School day – hopefully we will see lots of students join us on this day. Geoff Brock M.P. Visit In week 1 Clare Primary School was visited by Geoff Brock, Local Member of Parliament. Geoff was interested in the ongoing improvements at Clare Primary School, discussed the bus issue that several of our families are currently facing and visited 3 of our classes. Mr Brock enjoyed making cubbies in the Star room, visited one of our year 5/6 classes in Japanese and also met a number of our new reception students in Ms Pudney’s class. Hopefully we can have Mr Brock visit again in the near future to share many of the exciting programs that are happening at our school. Nature Play During the holidays the areas around the courts were improved with rocks and gravel spread around the stepping logs and bark chips. Logs and sitting stones were also added below the courts. It has been great to see students making use of these areas, even in ways we did not image with a mining crew setting up camp looking for quartz in the pebbles. Our loose parts play container was opened this week with students being creative with the many objects and materials we have in there. We also have a number of students showing their balance skills on the cable reels. Children love to explore, investigate what is in, on, under things and use their imagina-tion in their play. Our Nature play and loose parts play areas allow students this opportunity and it constantly surprises what they come up with.

SCHOOL CROSSING MONITORS

Recently your child’s school took part in School Crossing Monitor Training conducted by the South Australian

Police. This involves students in years 5, 6 and 7 being trained by Road Safety Educators from the SA Police

Road Safety Section. After the training is complete the student will receive a Certificate of Authority issued on

behalf of the Commissioner of Police which, under the Road Traffic Act 1961 authorises the student to work as

school crossing monitor. The certificate authorises the student to stop traffic using a Stop Sign or using Pedestri-

an Actuated Traffic Lights, as well as give reasonable directions to pedestrians for the safe and efficient move-

ment of traffic at or on the crossing as in their opinion is necessary.

The training involves learning how to safely stop vehicles at a school crossing and performing safety assessments

on when it is safe for children to cross the road (this includes asking the monitors to check that all vehicles have

stopped prior to pedestrians walking onto the crossing). The session also includes safe sign handling techniques

and positioning within the crossing.

It is extremely important that all people (including parents) use the crossings and become good road safety role

models, by following the School Crossing Monitor’s

directions, not only for their safety but the safety of all

students and road users.

If parents have any questions about the training the

Road Safety Section is happy to receive these inquiries

on the telephone number 82076586.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Thank you

Crossing Monitor Training Last week our yr 5/6 students were all trained by Senior Constable Michael Lord from the SA Police Traffic Division to become Crossing Monitors. A number of students have volunteered to take on this role. Our crossing monitors play an important role in getting our school community safely across the road each morning and afternoon. It is a huge responsibility but one that they have been trained and are supported to do. We ask members of the community to help us out by making sure they slow down to 25 kilometres per hour when lights are flashing and to stop when our stop signs are held aloft. Governing Council AGM Our Governing Council AGM will be held on Monday 27th February in the Library at 7.00 p.m. All parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend. Quite a few vacancies will exist for 2017 with a number of retiring members. Being a part of Governing Council is a great involved in the school, help set school direction and be a part of the improvement process. Pupil Free Day A Reminder that Monday 27th February is a pupil free day with all staff attending training and development with

the staff from Clare High School on building high preforming cultures. OSHC is available for that day if families

require this service.

DI’S DOT POINTS

Hi everyone,

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help

support families at Clare Primary! My SSO hours and Pas-

toral Care hours do vary a little but I will do my best to

catch up with you—just call the Front Office to make a

time to see me.

As part of my role I also help out in class rooms and I’m

available to students who may need a chat (please note

that if your child has an ongoing situation I can only

chat with them if you have given permission on their

enrolment forms).

I will be running chess club in the Resource Centre on

Tuesdays at lunch time and activities/yard time/catch up

with individuals on Wed, Thurs and Fri lunch times.

These will begin as soon as swimming is finished as I will

be at the pool during some lunch times.

Brekky Club runs from 8.30am until the start of lessons

and is held in the room up the stairs behind the hall.

If anyone has spare fruit that they would like to donate

to brekky club the students would love it thank you.!
