dollar spent from these funds is used directly for students learning activities. These fees can be paid to the front office at any time, in cash or via eftpos/online payment. Community Pavers – Get Your Name Down in History We have a shipment of pavers which we have started to add to our front path. These will be completed this week. They will add to the many names of students, staff and families from our past and present at BPS. Good news – we are once again taking orders. If you would like to add your childs name, or your family, to our school pathway, please complete the form that went home with the newsletter last week, or contact the school office. Please follow the directions on the form, include the $25 payment and note the closing date – BY JUNE 5th. Covered Walkways We have great news - we have successfully raised the funds to install the first phase of our covered walkways for moving around the school under cover!! For the past two years we have been holding fundraisers and budgeting our funds in order to install walkways from a number of the Infants classrooms to other buildings. This infrastructure will allow movement around the school out of the rain and heat. Phase one has cost $18,000. We thank our P&C, and school community, for committing $3,000 to this total. Last year's Spring Fair funds and some from the 2018 Trivia Night totalled approximately $14,000. With some school funds added, we can now install the cover along the Block G wall which helps movement around the school and also creates shelter over Infant student s schoolbags. Such a fantastic result which has all been made possible by our community and their fundraising efforts. Thank you. We now begin fundraising for phase two which will improve access to the Kindergarten building. See more information about this year's Trivia Night in this bulletin – this will be one way you can help us with this next installation. Harmony Day On Friday March 20th, we will celebrate Harmony Day’. We are having a celebratory assembly at 10.00am in the hall, followed by activities across the school for students to learn about many different countries and cultures. Please join us for our community assembly and feel free to stay for lunch time and throughout the middle part of the day if you wish. If you can offer expertise/information/skills from your own cultural background we would be so grateful. Please contact Ms Hanbidge or Mr Young through the office if you can help. Some of the teachers may also contact you to ask for your assistance – stay tuned! P&C News It was a great start to the P&C year with a very well attended first meeting last Thursday. We discussed the coming 12 months and committed to helping the school fund more under-cover walkways for our kids. We were also really thrilled to hear that we contributed to the first section of this project which will begin work soon. Dear Parents/Carers, Week 5 has arrived along with some sunshine! We have so much information to share in our newsletter this week so please grab a cuppa and make yourself comfortable – enjoy your weekly update. Please add significant dates and events to your family calendar. We would love to have family and community participation at a premium this year! outdoor gym installations. When the caps have been finalised, we will share pictures and prices. Thank you to all parents who provided feedback and ideas. We look forward to adding this item to our uniform at BPS. Trivia Night - Save The Date Every second year the major fundraising event for the Bomaderry Public School community is a Trivia Night at the Bomaderry Bowling Club. 2019 was our bi-annual Spring Fair year, which means 2020 will be our Trivia Night. Please save the date – Friday September 4th. This event is always well attended and so much fun. Staff and parents, community groups and friends come together for some entertainment, food, fun and SUPERB prizes. Information will start coming home soon. In the meantime, please add this adult evening event to your diaries. Clean Up Australia Day Sunday March 1st is the annual Clean Up Australia Day event across the country. Bomaderry PS always takes part and we will do our ‘bit’ on Friday February 28th (This Friday!). If you have children’s sized gardening gloves at home, your child can bring them along for use during our clean up. We will clean up within and nearby to the school. Attendance It is not OK to be away! It is also, not OK to be late to school. We need students here and on time every day so they can achieve their learning goals! Students should be at school every day the school is operational. Please provide a valid explanation after any necessary absence. This should be provided the first day the student returns to school. A note can be sent to the student’s teacher or a text can also be sent to the designated text message line at school – 0429 934 116. Please consider also, how important it is that your child doesn’t miss the first part of the school day due to absence. It is really hard to catch up on the morning messages, hard to engage with your friends and start the day settled and ready, if you are walking into class after the day has begun. Have another fantastic week of learning, smiling and having fun at BPS. Keep up the fabulous work with home reading – our return rate for home readers is at an all-time high! Well done BPS and community. Aim High, Achieve High. Ms Dionne Hanbidge Principal

We warmly welcomed two new members, Helen and Louise, to the committee and look forward to working with them and their ideas. We are also fortunate to have new faces on our bread collection roster. This is fantastic and we are grateful for all the help. There are many projects in the pipeline but we always welcome fresh ideas. Have you seen a great fundraiser that you think would be good at BPS? Have you just started here and would like to share what worked well at your previous school? Please let us know! You can leave a message via the office . It’s looking like a good year ahead, Scott and the Bomaderry Public School P&C Quality Work At Bomaderry Public School, teachers ensure that their class has a clear understanding of what they need to achieve during each lesson. This explicit teaching allows students to strive to achieve high quality learning and work samples. Students know the criteria and can work hard to achieve them. Lillian, Xavier and Maverick from K-6S and K-6P worked hard to create text and illustrations about our PBL values. They ensured it was colourful and attention-grabbing and included one or more of our values. Tylor from 1/2G also completed high quality work. He identified the materials of common objects, recorded his findings in a table and used the class word wall to support correct spelling. Canberra Excursion Wow – it is that time of year already! Our Stage 3 students have been given the preliminary information about their big Stage 3 excursion for 2020. Please note; an additional ‘orange’ coloured note has come home today to clarify the deposit amount of $60. We look forward to planning this significant excursion opportunity as the term progresses. Get those deposits in, to secure your spot! Year 3-6 School Caps One of the exciting school actions ratified at the recent P&C meeting was the introduction of a school cap for Primary-aged students. We have begun pricing and planning a navy blue cap, with gold trim and embroidery. It will be available later in the year for students in Years 3-6 only. The parents and staff collaborated on this idea as a response to the number of older students without the school hat, and subsequently having less options for play during break times. The addition of the cap will support our goal of improving positive playtime behaviours and engaging students in physical activity, using the equipment on the oval – including our brand new cricket nets and

PBL Superstars

Last week our PBL focus was ‘Movement’. All classes

engaged in lessons about how to move respectfully and safely through the school. Students demonstrated their amazing PBL values by walking beautifully to library, assembly and sport. They also made sure they walked to their class lines after each break in a timely manner so that they were ready to learn!

This week we saw students from each class receive a

yellow merit for their awesome effort and dedication to the PBL focus. 1/2 Finland and K-6 Hungary received the class of the week! Well done and congratulations to all those recipients!

Easter Raffle Donations Every year the P&C do a monster Easter raffle. We ask families to donate chocolate eggs, Easter bags, ribbon, baskets etc. to contribute towards the raffle prizes. Please drop donations into the school office. Raffle tickets will be sent home in the coming weeks. Thank you in advance from The P&C
