l Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
What a wonderful event the District Swimming Carnival was last Friday.
When I arrived I was greeted by an enthusiastic team of students eagerly
wanting to share their race experiences, supported by many parents and
loved ones. We are very proud of all our competitors – their enthusiasm,
effort, encouragement of each other and competitors from other schools is
commendable. Well done everyone and a special mention to our
swimmers who will represent us at the Regional Swimming Carnival: Lily
Brett, Sophie McCall, Jade Pacey, Nash Ferguson and Ilona Krizsan. Thank
you also to Mr Voysey and Miss Pearce for accompanying our swimmers to
the carnival.
CONGRATULATIONS!
We have just heard that Mrs Sharpe has given birth to a gorgeous baby boy
called Sunnie.
Congratulations also to Mrs Fincher who has just announced her pregnancy
– a little baby brother or sister for Charlotte. Babies are always a joy to be
celebrated; congratulations to you both!
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY ACTIVITIES
This weekend, Sunday March 3rd, is ‘Clean Up Australia Day’. Our school is
participating in this nation wide community event on Friday. Our students
will be involved in cleaning up our playground. Wollongong Council is
supplying bags but we ask that students bring their own pair of gloves
(please label with their name).
PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS
Thank you to all parents and carers who we able to attend Parent
Information Sessions during the past two weeks. The staff greatly
appreciated your attendance and input. Please don’t hesitate to contact
us to make an appointment if you have any further questions or concerns.
ILLNESSES and ALLERGIES
As notified last week, we have students currently suffering from conjunctivitis
and croup. Please keep your child home from school if they are unwell so
that we can contain the spread of germs. Information sheets were sent
home on Friday. Please contact the office if you did not receive these. We
also ask you to continue to be vigilant regarding checking and treating hair
for head lice.
ALLERGIES
Birthdays are wonderful events to celebrate with others. Many parents send
cakes and ‘goodies’ for their child to share with their classmates. To
minimise the effect of any allergies could you please include a
comprehensive list of ingredients of food sent to school. If your child has
allergies to common foods (such as egg, gluten, dairy, food colouring, etc)
could you please inform the office. You may like to consider sending an
alternate ‘treat’ that your child’s teacher could give to your child when
they are unable to share ‘party’ food brought in.

l P & C MEETING
Last Wednesday was the first Parents and Citizens meeting for 2019. It was
great to see many new faces as well as the band of steadfast and
enthusiastic members that our school is very fortunate to have. Lots of
exciting things are in the pipeline for later this term – Harmony Day, Infants
Camp Out and a Colour Run are just a few. There will be more information
next week. The P & C’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled for
Wednesday, 20th March at 6:30pm. Please put it in your diary – we would
love to see you there.
2019 STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAMS
Applications for students who are interested in joining the Sports,
Technology, Hive or Live Life Well Leadership Teams have been sent home
today and are due back by next Monday, 4th March. This is a wonderful
opportunity to further enhance your child’s leadership skills and work with
others who have a similar passion.
SCHOOL BAND PROGRAM
Last week Mr Costello was able to audition students who were interested in
learning to play a ‘wind’ instrument with the view of joining the school
band at a later date. He has a tutor who is prepared to run before school
lessons in the demountable on a Tuesday morning if there are a few new
students interested in tuition. If you are interested please contact Mr
Costello on 0408271107.
Band rehearsals will take place in the demountable from 8am to 8:45am
on Wednesdays.
SWEDISH LESSONS
We have a number of Swedish students who attend our school and
Swedish lessons are now available on Monday afternoons from 3:45pm –
5:45pm. Lessons are provided by the ‘Swedish School in Sydney’. If you are
interested in having your child attend please contact Madelene Watkins
on 02 89190102
CHESS
Does your child love playing chess? The Wollongong Junior Chess Club
meets on Thursdays (4:00 – 6:00pm) at Fairy Meadow Community Centre.
For further information please contact:
John Mazzieri phone: (02) 4283 3080 e-mail: [email protected]
The VALUE of the fortnight is ‘respect’ and our student leaders help us think
about how we can demonstrate this value each morning in their daily
announcements. Teachers are also reinforcing this value in their
classrooms and it would be appreciated if parents could also discuss
practical ways respect can be shown in the home and school settings.
May there be many happy moments in your week,
Warm regards,
Dee

Figgy Heights Fathering Tips
The BUS Principle
B - Being There for them.
U - showing Unconditional Love.
S - help them realise how Special they are.
With these three things in mind, look for opportunities to spend time
with the children in your life. Talking, cheering them on, playing,
working on a chore, task or project - or even just relaxing are all
opportunities to B.U.S with your children. Where possible, Being
There one-on-one with your child, helps them to feel even
more Special and Unconditionally Loved.
