Southbrook Superstars… During the weekend, Zach got two James, Tyler and Kamrin with the simple second places and a third place in machines they made for Science week. swim meet in Ashburton. Top effort Zach! A fabulous Science week story by Pearl… On Wednesday I did reflections with Mrs Curry and it was a rainbow. I did it outside in the sun. I folded some paper and cut it with scissors. I opened up the heart and I saw lot’s of blood. Matthew and his Dad recently competed Petra has been very busy in Ngahere in XRACE. and she has learnt a lot about Earth. XRACE is a mystery adventure race where parent and child race together, locate and complete 10 mystery challenges, racing the clock and other family teams. Ka pai Matthew! From the Cookbook team… We have been very busy behind the scenes, photographing recipes for the cookbook. We are pleased to say it is all done. It has been an amazing experience and we have had lots of fun alone the way. We would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all our great helpers that have dropped baking, meals, breakfast etc to us. The food has looked amazing and we could not have done it without your help. We have quite a few business owners within our school families that have sponsored the book, so a huge thank you also. So where are we at?... We are now at the designers, finishing the graphic design, putting the beautiful photographs against the recipes, and shaping this to be a fantastic book that you will have forever. What’s next… The team at the printers will work away at it. Then we start presales, and the book will go on sale to the public early in May. So start talking about ‘A Little Slice of Southbrook’ to your friends, family and work mates. Together we can make this fundraiser a huge success.

International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS)

This annual assessment / competition is available again to those who wish to participate.

ICAS provides an opportunity for all Years 4 – 13 students to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external

testing situation. It provides teachers, parents and students with comprehensive reporting of results in the areas of

Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Writing.

All students receive a certificate and an individual student report indicating which questions they answered correctly

and their score compared with the rest of the students tested. The tests are an excellent preparation for national tests

and the student report is useful for highlighting your child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Certificates are awarded for each year level as follows:

High Distinction to the top 1% of entrants.

Distinction to the next 10% of entrants.

Credit to the next 25% of entrants.

Participation to all other participating students.
